Chapter Two: Old and New Faces

The next morning Ryoma was woken up by Nanako yelling at him to get dressed. When he did finally stumble out of bed and off towards the kitchen, Nanako was already dressed and buzzing around. Ryoma felt tired just watching her.

"Nana-chan," Ryoma yawned. "Why up so early?"

Nanako paused in her actions and smiled at Ryoma. "Because Ryo-kun, I am taking you to meet my friends."

"Why so early though?!" Ryoma couldn't help the whining tone to his voice; he really hated to get up early when tennis wasn't involved.

"Ryoma! Stop complaining and get dressed!"

Ryoma just sighed and went back to his room to get dressed. He pulled on a pair of black shorts that had a white strip on each side, a tight white muscle shirt, a blue huddy that had sheepishly at Nanako's death glare. "Sorry, couldn't find my hat..."

"Lets go."

They walked out, getting into Nanako's car and drove off. The ride was pleasant, at lest after Nanako forgave him for being slow, it was. They spent the ride talking about what all Ryoma should do while back in Japan.

"You know Ryoma; while you're back you should really meet back up with your old friends."

"I know. I was thinking about stopping by the Kawamaru Families Restaurant. You know, the Sushi place I use to always hang out at." Nanako nodded, remembering Ryoma's old teams hang-out. "I am hoping to find Kawamaru-sempai there."

"Good. It wouldn't be nice if you didn't say 'hi' to your old team while in the country."

After that Nanako spent the rest f the ride telling Ryoma about her friends they were going to meet. Evidently there were 7 of them, 4 girls and 3 guys. She told him their names and some stuff about them. The 4 girls were; Seika, Gina, Ren and Rin. Ren and Rin were twins, Seika has a temper, and Gina was a tough girl. Then the guys were: Kai, Ronin, and Gin. Kai was evidently Nanako's feansei, Gin was Gina's little brother, and Ronin was the bad boy.

By the time Nanako had filled him in on the whole group, they had arrived at the cyber caffe. The place looked like something Ryoma had seen while in New York City. It was not exactly what he would have guessed to be in Japan. Nanako took him in and started to lead him towards one of the back rooms.

"Now don't let them scare you Ryoma."

"Like they could." Ryoma mumbled in response.

Upon entering the room they were instantly greeted by 7 people doing some very odd things. A red headed boy, that sorta reminded Ryoma of Akira Kamio, was being pestered by a girl with dark brown hair and her duple ganger. Then there was a boy with dirty-ish blond brown hair; he was on the floor being held in a head lock by a girl with black hair. The last two were seated at a table and seemed to be having a pleasant conversation. One was a boy with red-ish brown hair and a girl with flaming red hair.

"Everyone!" Nanako yelled, gaining the rooms attention. "I would like you all to meet my cousin Ryoma."

Ryoma nodded his head in a small greeting.

"Ryoma," Nanako then began to introduce the small group to him. "The two twins are Ren and Rin Haruka, the two on the floor are Gin and Gina Kasumi, the red head being annoyed by the twins is Ronin Kiyoshi, and lastly , the two at the table are Seika Misaki and Kai Suzume, my feanse."

"So you're Ryoma?" Rin asked coming up to Ryoma's left side.

"As in, Ryoma Echizen, the pro tennis player?" Ren asked coming up to Ryoma's right side.

Ryoma only nodded a yes and eyed the two double ganger's suspiciously. He was shocked how ever when they squealed and glomped him to the floor.

"OMG! We're your biggest fans!" Ren grinned.

"We've followed your career since you went to Nationals in middle school!" Rin held him tighter.

"Alright now, Kai interrupted, being at that moment, the voice of reason. "Let the poor man breath."

Kai reached his hand out to help Ryoma up. Ryoma after finally filing his lungs with oxygen, took the out reached and and was pulled up off the ground.

"Sorry about that." Kai apologized. "They really are two of your biggest fans."

Ryoma shrugged his shoulders, as he dusted himself off. "It's fine. I am use to it." Ryoma then smirked. "Sides it's not really all that bad being tackled by two very lovely girls."

Ryoma's comment only caused himself to get tackled again by the twins. Everyone else laughed at the twos antics towards their new friend.

Ryoma absently wondered that maybe this whole ordeal wouldn't be so bad after all...

~/*/~/*/~

It had been about two months now since Ryoma came back to Japan. He had spent this time getting requested with the area again, and hanging out with Nanako and her friends. They had all pretty much dubbed him a member of their group.

Seika and Gina see him as a little brother, and are very protective of him. The twins see him as their best-est friend ever and love to flirt around with him in public just for kicks and giggles. The whole group actually finds their antics funny.

Kai even went so far one time as to say: "Lucky you Ryo-kun! You have twins; it's a constant three sum!"

Everyone Just laughed at the insanity of the ordeal. Speaking of Kai; he and Ryoma have come to terms with one another and are now close friends. At lest now that they have come to turns with Kai being Nanako's feanse and Ryoma believing she could do better... Then there are the last two of the group; Ronin and Gin.

Ryoma had actually found out, about a week after meeting the group, that Ronin was bisexual, like himself, and that Gin was gay! Ronin and Gin both flirted around with him and honestly he didn't mind it. They were both nice looking.

The group was funny really; they were all different, yet they all clicked with one another. The voice of reason, Kai; who is the only one able to control the group. The intelligent and silent, Seika; who's face is normally buried in a new book. The childish Gin; who is all ways acting like he is 6 and not 26. The rough-houser, Gina; who's all ways looking for a good fight. The bad boy, Ronin; who was a total flirt at the same time. The sweet and caring, Nanako; who keeps them from killing one another. The mischives douo, Rin and Ren; who are all ways thinking up new pranks. Then there is himself with his arrogant and, as people say, bratty personality.

They are all different, but seem to balance each other out. It sorta reminded Ryoma of his old team. With Eiji's hyper activeness, Oishi the mother hen, Tezuka the stoic captain, the sadistic Fuji, the power house Momo, the creepy Kaidoh, Inue the mad scientist, and Kawamaru with his split personality thing. They all just seemed to click...

Ryoma had yet to get time to actually go by Kawamaru's Sushi restaurant. He had also not ran into any of the old regulars. He was beginning to wonder if any of the old regulars even still lived in the area anymore. He really hoped they did; he missed his old team.

"Ryo-kun, is something wrong?" Nanako questioned with worry. "You've been spaced out for the last few hours."

Ryoma, finally coming out of his thoughts, gave his cousin an actually real smile. "I'm fine Nana-chan. I was just thinking over all that has happened these last few months and about my old team."

Nanako nodded understanding what Ryoma meant, but had left unsaid. "Ryo-kun, maybe instead of going with us to the movies today you should go see that Kawamaru Sushi restaurant. You know; see if you can find any of them."

Ryoma sighed. "Would you mind telling the others? I think I will take your advice for a chance."

"Don't worry Ryo-kun; the group will understand."

Ryoma stood from his seat and headed off towards his room to get dressed for the day. The day was going to be long so Ryoma figured he should Probably ware something comfortable. So what was he going to wear?

Looking through his closest, Ryoma was having a hard time finding anything that would be good to ware.

"Ryoma," Nanako called from outside his bedroom door. "I already laid you something out. I pleased it on the trunk at the foot of the bed!"

Ryoma turned and looked; sure enough there laying on the trunk was a small pile of clothes. "How the..."

Ryoma was confused why had Nanako already hunted him out some clothes? She couldn't have know he was going to make this choise... Could she? Unless...

"Nanako! You knew this was going to happen!"

"If it hadn't, I would have made you!" Nanako called back as she left down the hall.

Shrugging it off, Ryoma decided he would get her back later. Going over to the clothes he grabbed them and began to get dressed. Nanako had picked him out a pair of plain black shorts and a light blue turtle neck shirt. After that he slipped his shoes on and headed back towards the kitchen, were he found Nanako waiting for him.

"Come on. I'll drive."

"That was mean Nana-chan!" Ryoma wined playfully as they drove off.

"You would have thanked me later anyway."

~/*/~/*/~

While on the way towards the Kawamaru Sushi restaurant, Ryoma and Nanako chatted about this and that with no particular subject in mind. It was mostly about some of the things they and the group had planed for later on int the week. Slowly though their chattering had died down to silents. Both of them getting lost in their thoughts.

Ryoma stared out eh window watching the scenery pass by, as his mind was wrapped around thoughts of his old team. and all the moments they had shared... It was but a few moments later they were passing the street tennis courts where a lot of those memories were made.

"Nanako," Ryoma spoke, drawing his cousins from her own thoughts. "Stop here would you."

Nanako, stopping the car, turned towards her cousin with her curious gaze. "Are you sure Ryo-kun? I can drive you all the way there if you like."

"No, that's alright. I want to walk through the street tennis courts. You know see if they have changed any." Ryoma got out of the care but before closing the door he smirked and told Nanako one more thin. "Tell everyone to not have too much fun without me."

Nanako only laughed as she pulled awa3edey, leaving Ryoma to walk through the old tennis park.

Ryoma walked around not really expecting to see all that many people. It was still quiet early in the day still. walking to an all too familiar court; Ryoma found himself seated on the bench as a few old memories came rushing back.

~/*/- Flash Backs -/*/~

"Ryoma!" Momoshiro called out, as he ran towards his best friend. "Guess what I just saw!"

Ryoma stared waiting for his sempai to cuntine.

"Fuji-sempai just punched some guy in the face!"

Ryoma almost choked on his panta. 'what?!'

"Are you sure it was Fuji-sempai?"

"Absolutely, come see!: Momoshiro grabbed a hold of Ryoma and dragged the freshman off.

When they finally reached the scene, they found Tezuka pulling Fuji off of some guy that looked slightly familiar... Fuji had his eyes opened in an icy glare aimed towards the man; while Tezuka struggled to hold Fuji back from launching himself at the man on the ground once again.

"How dare you touch him I aot to ripe your arms off and shove them down your throught!" Fuji hissed, every word acted like venom dripping off his tongue.

"Calm down Fuji," Tezuka then whispered something in his ear; causing Fuji to glance over towards their direction. His eyes widened in shock.

Fuji then pulled himself away from Tezuka and walked off, but before he had turned away Ryoma could have sworn that he saw a small trace of fear in his sempai's azure blue eyes... Fuji had ended up disappearing for the whole day, for no one saw him till the next day at school. He was acting as if nothing had happened; as if all was good with the world. No one was brave enough to ask Fuji why he had snapped and the ones that were thought it best to leave it be.

That had been the first time Ryoma had ever seen his sempai lose his calm aura. It had been the first time Ryoma had ever seen Fuji yell little lone fight anyone!

~/*/- Next Memories -/*/~

Ryoma and Fuji were playing a friendly game of tennis, were they were not aloud to use any of their special moves. Tezuka was being the ref for them, seeing as he was the one allowing them to have this so called friendly match. Fuji was winning the match so far with a lead of one game.

"Come on Echizen-kun!" Fuji playfully chided , hitting the ball back. "Hit harder. I know you can."

"15-All. Fuji's surve." Tezuka announced loudly, marking the point.

"Mada mada da ne." Ryoma muttered towards Fuji.

The game ended 8 games to 6; making Fuji the winner. As Ryoma and Fuji were in the changing room, Ryoma tripped and would have hit the ground f not for Fuji who caught him in his arms.

"Careful Ryoma-kun" Fuji's voice was soft and deep filled with a hidden passion.

Ryoma blushed at the husky tone in which his name had been spoken. Not daring to look up Ryoma muttered his famuse fraze and then ran; leaving his stuff behind in a flurry. Tezuka ended up returning Ryoma's stuff to him the next day; and Fuji seemed to be avoiding him the whole day. It wasn't until after the week end did Fuji and Ryoma seem to be back to them selves.

~/*/- Next Memories -/*/~

Ryoma was over at Tezuka's house studying for an up coming test. Tezuka had offered to help him to study for a foren language test that he was having trouble with. Foren languages had just happen to be Tezuka's best class.

They where in Tezuka's room seated in on the floor, a Japanese styled table in front of them covered in text books. There was a soft knock at the door then a gentle voice, as Tezuka's mother opened the door and brought them in a small tray with tea and cakes on it. Tezuka stood and took the tray from his mothers hands, placing it on the floor between him and Ryoma.

"You take care now you two." She smiled at the two boys her eyes on Ryoma then she turned to Tezuka and winked before leaving.

"Your mother is very nice Boucho." Ryoma smiled a slightly real smile as he took the cup of tea offered to him.

Tezuka nodded in agreement; only some what surprised that Ryoma had just smiled and not smirked. They then got back to work only after Tezuka tucked away the mental images of a certain prince. As the time past they lost track of day and before they even realized it the sun had set and it was dark out side.

"Echizen, maybe you should spend the night; it is too late for you to walk home now." Tezuka suggested as he handed Ryoma the phone.

"Boucho," Ryoma's voice was barely over a whisper. "You can call me Ryoma you know."

Tezuka nodded his head. "Very well; then it is only proper that I offer you the same. Though only when we are not at practice."

Tezuka didn't notice it but Ryoma's eyes lit up and a small blush tinted his cheeks. "Thank you Bou-Kunimitsu."

Ryoma almost couldn't stop himself from grinning as he dield his home number. It took a few rings but eventually the old man answered the phone.

~Hello?~

"Hey old man. I'll be staying the night here at my friends house since it is too late for me to walk home."

~Aw! It my little boy going to finally become a man?~

Ryoma blushed with embarrassment and anger at the words. "Drop it old man or the magazines burn."

~Nooooo! Not my Babies!~

Ryoma just humphed and hung up. He then handed Tezuka back the phone. Ryoma could see it in His Boucho's eyes that the man was curious about his conversation just now with his father but Ryoma knew his Boucho wouldn't ask and that was just how he wanted it.

That night had been the first time that Ryoma fell asleep in a bed next to someone else, lit alone one of his crushes and Boucho. Some how during the night Ryoma had ended up snuggling up to Tezuka in his sleep and when they woke up they had been in quit an aquerd posishion.

~/*/- End Flash Backs -/*/~

Ryoma was soon pulled out of his memories when something hit his leg. Looking down he found that the cause of distraction had been a tennis ball; it was now laying next to his foot.

"Hey!" Someone called out from the tennis court. "Can you throw that back?"

Picking the ball up , Ryoma stood and glanced over to the court. He saw a guy with short spiky, light brown hair and a scar on his face. The boy looked so familiar to him...

Shrugging it off Ryoma threw the players their ball and headed off. He should probably head on over towards the Kawamaru families Sushi Bar before the place would start to get too busy if he was to talk and have a descent conversation.

As he turned his back though he did not see the two boys from the tennis court staring at him oddly. They seemed to have had a suspicion that they knew him, but couldn't be sure.

~/*/~/*/~

Ryoma casually walked into the Sushi Bar and looked around. The place wasn't all that busy for which Ryoma was grateful. Looking around Ryoma spotted just the person he had been looking for. Kawamaru Takashi. The boy now man was standing behind the counter preypairing someones order. The man really hadn't changed all that much from what Ryoma could observe. He was the same hight and same built, his hair was a little darker and voice a bit deeper but other then that all the same.

Walking forward Ryoma took a seat at the bar waiting to gain his former sempai's attention.

"Please have a seat. I'll be with you in a moment." Kawamaru greeted, not turning around.

Ryoma smirked as he brushed his low pony tail over his shoulder; owing his head to hide his eyes bellow his cap. "Mada mada da ne sempai. Take your time."

Kawamaru seemed to stiffen at hearing the old freshmans famuse quote after so long. Turning around slowly, Kawamaru was greeted with a smirking Prince of Tennis seated in front of him.

"Ryoma..." Kawamaru's voice wavered as silent tears appeared at the corner of his eyes.

"Hai, sempai."

Kawamaru couldn't believe his eyes. Their little freshman of junior high was back! Ryoma was back! None of them had ever thought that they would see him again after he went pro; well they at lest believed that they wouldn't see him in person again. They all always gathered together and watched his matches on television. Now thought, here he was Echizen Ryoma seated in front of him with his all too famuse smirk in place.

"Sempai," Ryoma spoke, moc-concern in his voice. "Are you alright? You look as if you have just seen a ghost."

In the next moment three things happened; one, Kawamaru's face sprung into a grin, two Kawamaru some how got a hold of a tennis racket, and three, Ryoma was tackled to the floor by an over zealous sempai.

"Echizen-kun!" Kawamaru yelled. "You've returned to use! Burn!"

"Kawamaru-sempai!" Ryoma yelled, trying desperately to get the racket from the 'Burn-inator'. "Give me the damn racket!"

It took a while, but eventually Ryoma was able to get the racket away from the, *cough* crazy man *cough*, Kawamaru. They were now seated; Ryoma eating some sushi and drinking a grape panta. Kawamaru was ones again behind the counter preparing orders. There were having a bit of small talk.

Kawamaru was filling Ryoma in on how everyone was doing and Ryoma in return was telling Kawamaru what all had been going on in his life as a pro tennis star.

When Kawamaru had told him about the two new relationships in the group, Ryoma hadn't been surprised at the first one. It had been obvious to everyone that Oishi and Eiji would eventually end up together; but the second one got him. It had hurt him slightly but he didn't show it. It seemed that in his leave Fuji and Tezuka had gotten together!

They talked some more and Ryoma found out that all of the regulars were still living in the area. Momoshiro worked at a burger joint, Oishi worked at a daycare, Inue is a college professor, Kaidoh was a pet sitter, Eiji worked at a sporting goods store, Fuji was a photographer for a big calendar, and Tezuka was a lawyer.

It was all funny really. The ones Ryoma thought that were most humors, was Kaidoh's and Eiji's jobs. Kaidoh as a pet sitter was just plain off... The guy had all ways walked around hissing at everyone and was just; well creepy. Then Eiji actually worked at one of the branch offs of the sporting goods store he owned. Weird how Ryoma didn't know that.. Oh well.

"So, Echizen-kun," Kawamaru smiled. "How long will you be staying here in Japan?"

"As long as I want to." Ryoma stated boredly. "I am on a sort of temporary leave/vacation."

"Well then, you should drop by next weekend. The Seigaku regulars gather up here on the weekends as a sorta reunion party." Kawamaru grinned. "it is sorta like a time away from a long week of work for us to all relax."

"I'll pop by then I have been meaning to see the others anyway. This just makes it easier for me; now I don't have to hunt them down."

He and Kawamaru both laughed at the thought of Ryoma actually hunting down the old team. It was good to be back. In truth Ryoma couldn't wait for next weekend now. He wondered slightly though; how much had his old friends changed?

Ryoma and Kawamaru talked a little more but soon Ryoma had needed to leave. Nanako came by and picked him up taking him home only after Ryoma had introduced her to Kawamaru. They were soon of though and headed home.

~/*/- Same Day -/*/~

{Earlier at the Fuji House}

Fuji Syusuke had just gotten home from work. Today actually had been a pretty easy day. Working on the shoot had went well and they finished early.

Walking through the hall he glanced at the phone to see he had one missed call. Shrugging it off, he pushed the answering muchiens play button. He was surprised to hear his dear little brother, Yutta's voice.

~Syusuke; I have something important to tell you! Call me when you get home.~ End Message.

It must have been very important for Yuuta to call him. He and his brother were still not on very good terms; but they were closer now then back when he was in Junior High.

Picking up the phone, Fuji dield in his brothers cell number and waited for him to answer. It only took 3 rings before it was answered.

~Hello?~

"Yuuta!" Fuji grinned. "You had something important to tell me about?"

~Syusuke!~ Yuuta sounded shocked. ~You want believe this! Remember the freshman on your old tennis team in Junior High that went pro? Echizen Ryoma.~

Fuji paused at the name. 'That' name brought back so many feelings. Fuji had not been one of the closest ones to Ryoma but, he had felt the loss of the freshman just the same, If not more!

They all missed the tennis prince. They would get together and watch his games. That was the only way they got to see him anymore. Fuji and Tezuka had actually been the ones to suggest this activity. He and his lover would have went to the games but they were all ways too busy.

"Yes Yuuta; I remember Echizen-kun." Syusuke hide the slight trimer in his voice. "What about him?"

~Well today while me and Mizuki were in the park playing a small tennis game; we lost one of the balls. The ball landed near this man. Wel when the man stood up and threw the ball towards us, I got a glimps of his face and he looked exactly like an older version of Echizen!~ Syusuke's heart skipped a beat and his eyes opened. ~Also I heard in sport news that the Prince of Tennis was heading for a small vacation! Do you get it?! Ryoma may be back in Japan!~

Syusuke dropped the phone in shock. Ryoma, their freshman prodigy, was back! Fuji was in such a state of shock that he didn't even hear the front door open; nor did he hear his name being called out to him.

"Syusuke?" Tezuka questioned placing his hand on Fuji's shoulder. "Is something wrong?"

Fuji turned his head and stared at Tezuka. His blue eyes locking with the soft brown ones of his lover. His voice cracked as he spoke. "Kunimitsu," A small smile started to form on his lips as a slight stream of tears started to fall. "Echizen Ryoma may have come back to Japan recently.."

"Echizen!" Tezuka gasped, as Fuji slowly nodded his head.

"Oh Kuni, what if he has? Do you think we will get to see him?"

Fuji knew he sounded like a pouting child, but he couldn't really help it. Echizen Ryoma was very important person to the whole team.

Tezuka was just as happy. The small smile on his face was a testament to that. Tezuka knew that Fuji liked Ryoma; it was hard not to tell. But that had actually been something that brought the two together. For Tezuka also liked the Tennis Prince. Ryoma being strait, or so they had though, had been the reason they hadn't tried to make a move on the young star.

Tezuka pulled Fuji into a hug; placing a soft kiss on his lovers forehead. Fuji grasped the front of Tezuka's suit; burring his face in Tezuka's shoulder.

"Kuni, I want to see Ryo-chan."

"I know Syuu. I do to. Maybe we can ask around and see if anyone knows where he is."

~/*/~/*/~

(Back with Kawamaru after Ryoma left)

Kawamaru was still in a very good mood after seeing Ryoma. He was in such good spirit that he didn't even notice he had two new guests in the restaurant.

"The probability of Kawamaru getting lost in thought has increased by 5%; ie data." Came the almost robotic reply of Inui Sadaharu.

"Ah!" Kawamaru jumped, quickly turning around. "Inui! Kaidoh! When'd you come in?"

"Just now." Kaidoh answered.

"So, what has you all spaced out Kawamaru?"

"Ah! That's right; you will never guess who was just here!"

"Atobe Keigo?" Kaidoh shrugged not really caring.

"That has a 87% chance of being wrong. Not only is he most likely at work, like always, but the only people he would care to visit out of our group would be; Fuji Syusuke, Tezuka Kunimitsu, and Echizen Ryoma."

"Then who?"

"Echizen Ryoma!" Kawamaru all but screamed. "He came by. He is here on vacation."

Kaidoh and Inui were shocked. Kaidoh's eyes were wide and Inui had dropped his notebooks and folders to the floor.

"How long?" Kaidoh asked after the surprise wore off a bit.

"He said he was going to be here for as long as he felt like it. I invited him to next weekends get to gather. Should we tell the others?"

"No." Inui stated quickly. "Don't do that. Let's surprise them..."

"Payback for when Fuji had Eiji run through your class room in only a pair of your boxers?" Kaidoh questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"100% yes." Inui's glasses glinted evilly.
