Chapter Four: More then Them
~/*/- Fuji -/*/~
Fuji Syuusuke and Yukimura Seiich were out on their normal weekly get together. This day they were also joined by Atobe Keigo. They were all seated at a small cafe; talking and recapping their weeks with one another. Strangely enough all three of their week had contained a mentioning of Echizen Ryoma.
"So onto better topics. Atobe," Yukimura turned to face the purple Diva. "Did you bring the list?"
Atobe held out an envelope. "This month's up dated version of Japans most wanted singles. Look who's at the top."
"What? Did someone finally knock you and Yukimura from your two's high perch at the top finally?" Fuji wondered grinning broadly. "Now who could ever do such a thing as that?"
"Well, well..." Yukimura smirked. "It would seem the Prince has beaten us."
Fuji stiffened.
"Yep. The Brat made it to the top." Atobe grinned. "Who would have thought that the Brat would be more desirable then the Great Ore-sama himself! Have you seen him though, since he came back?"
"Oh, yes. I've seen him." Yukimura gave a sly smile. "I had dinner with the Prince not all that long ago."
Atobe and Fuji both gasped. They had known that Yukimura had talked to him over the phone but to have actually gone on a date? Both were stunned beyond belief; secretly the two were jealous of this and in Fuji's case, also angry.
"Word is that our little Prince is now up for grabs. With him now looking for a partner I plan to make that little kitten mine."
Fuji shuddered at how Yukimura purred out that last word. It both frightened him and sent a chill down his spine at the same time. Having the Child of God after you was never a pleasant thing... He should know; he had dated the man before! People actually said it was worse than if it were Fuji whose attention you had drawn; and he took pride in the fact he was a well-known sadist. Fuji just couldn't let this man, best friend or not, have what he wanted. He wouldn't stand for it! Ryoma would be his; he just needed to figure out how to make it happen.
Atobe himself was also mistrusting of the Child of God. For you see he also had certain plans for the Brat. There was no way Oro-sama was going to let that Brat slip through his grip at least not without a taste himself. He was the King after all; where would he be without his Prince...
All three glanced down to the list lying on the table before them. None knowing the thoughts of the others as different plans to capture a certain Prince's affection were running through all of their heads. The glints that were hidden in each of the trio's eyes meant nothing but trouble for the person of thought.
Glaring back at them from off the sheet in the number one spot was the name of their desire.
'Echizen Ryoma...'
~/*/- Tezuka -/*/~
Tezuka was at his lunch break and was talking with Oishi over the phone. His day had been filled with paper work as always and his break was much desired. Especially since even with all of the paper work to distract him his thoughts still kept returning to a certain Prince. It had only been a slight surprise when his thoughts had been interrupted by Oishi calling him worried about Eiji.
It seemed the acrobat had broken some expensive equipment at the sporting goods store where he worked. Now his manager had called the store owner on him. It seemed that it hadn't been the first time the acrobat had broken something of value. Worst part was that the store was well known, so the owner would be some high up and rich person...
"Oishi," Tezuka sighed. "All I can do is accompany Eiji to this meeting. I can't promise any certain results. If he decides he wants to try and sue him for the amount of money needed to replace the equipment then I can step in but other than that I can only observe."
~Thank you, Tezuka.~ Oishi's voice gave way to his worry. ~I just don't want Kikumaru to get fired. He really loves his job!~
"I understand. When is the meeting to be?"
~...Tomorrow evening.~ His voice faltered.
Tezuka sighed and grunted. "Don't worry. I'll be able to make it."
~Thank you.~
Tezuka nodded though he knew Oishi couldn't see it. Their call then ended with a farewell and a promise for help. Tezuka sometimes hated his job. He really did want to help out his old friend but he didn't think that he would be able to do much. He wasn't a regular defense lawyer he was a Criminal Defense Lawyer.
"Nanako-san, would you clear my schedule for tomorrow evening." Tezuka spoke into the intercom to his secretary.
~Yes Tezuka-san.~ Came the sweet reply.
She was a very nice and polite woman. She was older than himself, but still looked quite young. Fuji used to joke around about having to watch out for her or she would steal him away, but they both knew better; for the young woman had been engaged for the last year. It seemed she had wanted to hold off until her cousin could be there for the wedding. She and her cousin had to be really close for her to wait for him for so long.
~/*/- Next Day: Tezuka -/*/~
Tezuka was seated with Kikumaru in an office on the eighth floor. It was the floor reserved for the owner alone. The office was huge as was the waiting area. There was even a small kitchen from what Tezuka could tell. It was basically an apartment. Eiji was fidgeting nervously in his seat as Tezuka took in the room and had to restrain himself from taping his friend to his seat.
"Kikumaru, sit still." His voice held a warning.
"Sorry! I'm just so nervous. What if I lose my Job?"
"If you think like that, then it is possible."
Eiji pouted at his friend. "Hey! Meanie..."
Outside the main doors Tezuka could hear the commotion of the store manager welcoming the owner. He could even hear the sucking up tone the man was using. The owner only grunted in response though. He seemed like he didn't really care about whatever the hell the man was talking about.
Straightening up in his seat Tezuka sighed and readied himself to deal with this, most likely pompous, owner. He almost felt like he was preparing to deal with Atobe! Then again this man could be worse than the Diva; who knew. He'd just have to find out.
When the door opened and the man walked in, Eiji flinched. The man stopped a few steps behind them. Tezuka could feel the man's eyes scanning them in an almost curious way but he could also feel the amusement coming from those eyes as well.
"You're kidding..." The voice was deep and silky.
Tezuka was more than familiar with that voice. It had haunted his waking thoughts and dreams for so long now. He couldn't hide the widening of his eyes as he realized just who was standing behind them. He was so stunned that he hadn't even realized that Eiji had fallen out of his seat in shock.
"I wasn't really planning to see you two again so soon." Ryoma smirked.
He walked around the two stunned figures and took a seat at his desk. Leaning back he smirked at their expressions. It was yet again another one of those few moments in which Ryoma really wished he had a camera in hand. Then again if this keeps happening he might just go buy one. Maybe he could ask Fuji to help him; using it as an opportunity to spend time with the tensai.
"Has a cat got your tongues?"
Eiji burst from his seat, pointing accusingly at him. "Ochibi! You mean you're the owner?"
"Well I had to find something to do with my spare time and it seemed like a good idea at the time." He shrugged. "Though really I don't know much. The business runs its self pretty much."
"You have got to be joking..." Tezuka couldn't believe the irony of it all.
Here he had come; ready to deal with some pompous ass, only to find it was none other than his own crush that owned the store. Well he knew that there was no way that Ryoma was worse than Atobe. Then again, evidentially he was better at running a business then the Diva; at least from what he said. Atobe was constantly working for his business to keep it up there, but here Ryoma was a pro-tennis player spending his little spare time barely doing anything for his business and yet it was so good it rivaled the Diva's himself! Maybe he just had good instincts when it came to the business world? Ryoma had never seemed the type to care for such things though...
Ryoma shrugged of Tezuka's words. "Don't worry about the equipment Eiji. I have already paid for it to be replaced. It honestly didn't hurt the store any. That ass hole of a manager here just likes attention."
Eiji brightened up. "You mean I can keep my job!"
"I can't see why not."
"Wahoo!" Eiji jumped up and down doing a happy dance.
Shaking his head Ryoma gave a small smile. "For all the trouble, why don't I treat you two to an early lunch?"
"Ah, sorry Ochibi, but I have a date with Shuichiroh." Eiji pouted.
"Then another time, Eiji."
He nodded energetically. "Great! Oh, and Ochibi must call me Kikumaru!"
"Sure." Ryoma glanced to Tezuka who had stayed quiet. "Would you care to join me for an early lunch?"
Staring at the young man, Tezuka couldn't believe his luck. His crush had basically just asked him out for a date! Though it really wasn't a date; he had Fuji, but still... He nodded his head in agreement.
"Good." He stood up and headed towards the elevator. "Shall we go then?"
Leaving the building Ryoma and Tezuka both bid Eiji a farewell with Ryoma also telling him to have fun on his date. Eiji had teased him right back by telling him to watch out that Fuji just might get him for trying to steal his boyfriend. Tezuka had just shaken his head at the two and hid a secret smile.
"Come on Kunimitsu." Ryoma started to walk towards the parking lot. "We'll take my car."
"You mean you own something other than that motorbike?" Tezuka was teasing of course even if his face and voice didn't really change from its neutral form; only his eyes gleamed slightly.
"The bike was not mine; it's Ryu's. I just borrowed it." He smirked.
Tezuka raised an eyebrow at the way Ryoma had said that last part. Had the he really borrowed it? Shaking it off since he remembered that the guy had been one of the ones to come and pick Ryoma up from the reunion. At that thought Tezuka had to restrain himself from groaning. It would seem a lot of new people had come into their little Prince's life since he had left them. He didn't like the thought of competition. Ryoma was his; he had been for a long time now. The Prince just didn't know it yet.
Hadn't Tezuka been the one he had idolized. Hadn't Tezuka been the one whose shadow he chased after even after the Prince had defeated his father. Hadn't Tezuka been the one to take him under his wing and make him the new pillar; training and pushing him to be his greatest... Didn't all this make the Prince his?
Tezuka believed so.
Ryoma had taken them to a nice little cafe a few blocks away from the sporting goods store. The place was nice, with a relaxing atmosphere. Just as soon as they had taken a seat at one of the back tables a waitress was already making her way towards them. From what Tezuka could tell she wasn't like most of the waitresses you would find any more; she seemed to have a calm welcoming aura without any pushiness.
"Welcome, would you care for a menu or do you already know what you would like?" She smiled politely towards Tezuka then glanced at Ryoma and smiled slightly wider. "Tatsu is the cook for the day."
This confused Tezuka a bit until he noticed Ryoma was smirking towards the woman.
"Excellent. The best cook and waitress; I don't think I could have picked better timing." Ryoma glanced to Tezuka. "I will be taking my usual, Nami-chan. How about you Kunimitsu?"
"I'll have a Green Tea and some sushi." Tezuka was a bit uncomfortable with how Ryoma seemed close to this woman.
"Alright. It'll be just a moment."
"Sure thing, Nami-chan. Give Tatsu my greetings." She nodded and walked off as Ryoma looked back towards him. "I come here often because the service is nice."
"I figured as much."
They really didn't talk all that much but that didn't matter. The whole time the atmosphere was never unpleasant between them. They had never really needed words to communicate before and it seemed they still didn't. They caught up a bit but never strayed to any possibly unpleasant conversations. Tezuka avoided talking about his relationship with Fuji and really relationships in general and Ryoma avoided talking about his new friends.
It really wasn't until Ryoma had already driven them back to Tezuka's car that Ryoma seemed to be a bit uneasy.
"Look, I'd like it very much if you and Kikumaru would please not mention that I am R.E. Prince. The last thing I need is to have that life clash with my tennis one and in truth I really don't want to have to deal with Monkey King. He's been trying to meet up with R.E. Prince for a while now."
Tezuka was sort of happy that Ryoma didn't want to meet up with the purple diva; everyone knew that Atobe had an interest in the Prince that went beyond tennis. "I'll call and tell Eiji tomorrow."
"Thank you Kunimitsu." Ryoma shared a true smile and then leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek; it was more a brush of a feather, it was so light but that didn't stop Tezuka from fighting a blush.
"Ah."
"Oh, and give Fujiko my greetings. You two live together now right?"
Tezuka hesitated but nodded. He wasn't ashamed to be with his boyfriend he did truly care deeply for him but it was just hard because he also cared greatly for this young man in front of him as well. He then watched as the Prince drove off to who knows where.
'Ryoma what are you doing to all of us? You left and now you're back uprooting everything that we had all settled into. It's almost like you never really left us but that hollowness is still there… Will you leave us again? I wish you wouldn't.'
~/*/- Same Time as Café: Ronin -/*/~
Ronin and Gin had just recently finished up at the shoot for the day and were just walking through town. The two might always be arguing with one another but the truth was the two of them were really good friends. They got on each other's nerves at times but didn't everyone do that; Ronin figured they did or they weren't normal… Then again Ryoma seemed to get along with everyone. Sure he put up a front like he was arguing with someone and at times it was true but it was never really out of anger he always ever was just slightly annoyed when he did such a thing, but the person he was always 'arguing' with was the same; it just seemed more like a playful banter then an argument. Maybe it was because Ryoma seemed so different from everyone else that he had fallen for the tennis star…
"Ronin!" Gin's voice yelled in his ear.
"What, you annoying child?" Ronin growled annoyed as Gin pouted at him.
"You didn't hear a word I said did you." Gin sighed at Ronin as the other man just stared at him blankly. "I said that I just saw Ryo-kun in that café we passed with another guy."
"What!"
Ronin grabbed Gin's wrist and ran back to the café and ignoring Gin's squeal of surprise at the sudden action. Looking in through the café window Ronin noticed that the childish boy was right. Seated in the far back of the café was their Ryoma with some other man! Looking closer he thought the man looked a bit familiar. Either way it didn't matter because what was really pissing him off was the fact that Ryoma seemed to be having a good time with this other man! It was bad enough that he had to share the tennis star with the twins, Seika, and Gina, not to mention Ryoma's own cousin Nanako, but this man didn't have any right to be with their Ryoma!
"Come on, let's go find out who the hell this guy is."
At first Ronin had planned to go in and take the table behind Ryoma and listen in but just as soon as they had gotten close enough for them to hear the other two talking Gin had called out Ryoma's name. Sometime Ronin had to wonder why he hadn't killed his childish friends yet for his stupidity.
"Ryo-kun!" Gin ran up to his friend. "We saw you here and figured we'd come and see what was up; right Ronin?"
"Yeah, we had just finished on the shoot and were walking about when the gaki here saw you." Ronin grunted but still smirked.
"Hey don't call me gaki!"
"Oh." Ryoma was surprised as was his companion.
"So, who's your friend Ryo-kun?" Ronin questioned slightly annoyed.
Tezuka held out his hand for Ronin to shake only to have it ignored by the two completely; he could feel that they didn't like him. "I'm Tezuka, Kunimitsu."
"I see."
"I'm Kasumi, Gin and this is Kyoshi, Ronin. We're friends of Ryo-hotty." Gin said in his happy voice but the glare he was sending Tezuka belied his dislike for the man.
Ryoma could tell the two didn't seem to like Tezuka and was quite annoyed that the two had interrupted their conversation. "Look you two; I know what you're up to and stop it right now. I want you two to apologize to him and then I want you two to leave. I will talk to you later and when I do we are going to discuss this whole situation, understood?"
The glare they received from Ryoma was enough to make them take a step back. Ryoma had never been harsh with them but here he was giving them a look of great displeasure and it made them feel unsettled. Gin complied but Ronin only gave another hard glare towards Tezuka and stormed out with Gin running after him.
~/*/- Tezuka & Fuji Later -/*/~
It wasn't until later that day when Tezuka finally had time to ponder over all that had happened that day. He had already called up Eiji and informed him of Ryoma's wish for his identity 'R.E. Prince' to stay a secret. At first the red head had pouted and complained saying that he had wanted to brag about being such a person's friend but in the end, with Tezuka's stern voice, he had given in, not wanting to be assigned laps to run. Now that he was settling down though, Tezuka realized that he really didn't like the pair he had met at the café. He had it fixed within his mind that Ryoma was his… well his and Fuji's but still. These two, Ronin and Gin, they would have to go. There was no way he was going to allow them to have his uke.
"Kuni-kun, I''m home!" Syuusuke had been away the whole day at a photo shoot. "Why do you look like you are ready to make someone run till their legs fall off?"
"I met those two guys from the reunion; the ones that picked up Ryoma." Tezuka then let out a soft growl which was a lot from the stoic man. "I really don't like them."
Fuji didn't know if he should laugh or question his boyfriend even further on the subject. In the end he settled with just hugging his lover and wishing Ryoma was with them.
"Kuni… we have a problem.."
"What is is Syuu?"
"It would seem we are not the only ones after the Prince." Tezuka waited for him to continue not liking this one bit. "Atobe. Yukimura."
Tezuka was right he did not like this situation. Sure, Atobe was understandable, but the Child of God as well… Damn!
