"Wings? Like as in Fangs wings?" Amity says, crouching down in front of Pup and looking into his eyes seriously. Pup looks a little uncomfortable at all the sudden attention and fidgets a little with his grey tee-shirt.

"Umm, yeah. 'Sept one of them had red feathers and the other had grey ones- like my shirt," he mumbles shyly, pointing to his own chest.

"There was two of them, Pup? Just two?" I ask, staring at him intently. He nods, his eyes meeting mine for a moment.

"Yeah, two bird guys. No Erasers or Chimeras," he states firmly, trailing off at the word the word Chimera.

Chimeras are Itexicons newest success. Half Eraser, half whatever else they can find lying around in the scrap heap. They can't speak, they can't think for themselves and they're stronger than any normal Eraser. And they fear nothing. We encountered them twice, on a job in Zimbabwe a year ago. Our lot had wolf snouts and claws, but the chest of a monkey and bat wings, with some variations.

They basically reeked of Itexicon and Alpha gave the word for the Pack to scattered. After all, there were fifteen of them and only eight of us. We thought we'd be fine if we laid low for a few days, but they found us. That night we lost Hunter, the second youngest in the Pack and Pup's best friend. It was the first death Pup was present for and hopefully the last.

The fact that who ever sent the avians didn't send Chimeras was a good sign for now.

Kith and Amity stared at me expectantly. They know my background; they know about the Flock and what bird wings may mean. But, as far as I know, there is only two guys in the Flock and neither one of them have grey or red wings. So, these guys are new to me. Hopefully, that's good news for us.

"Tell me what happened after they shot me," I mumble, and sit down next to him. Pup shrugs.

"Okay. Umm… they shot you, and you fell down. So, I started to run back to the van like you said. I was running fast, but they flew up behind me and knocked me down. They tried to jab me with one of those things they shot you with… but I dodged and changed into a giant black spider!" he starts to shake with laughter and his hair slowly changes to a cherry colour.

"The big guy with the grey wings was so scared! He jumped back off me making all these funny sounds! I thought he was gonna' start crying!" I grin at the thought. Some full grown experiment, being freaked out by Pup, an Eraser who wouldn't hurt a fly.

It's a funny ol' world we live in.

"But the guy with red wings didn't even flinch. He just pulled out a needle and poked it into my spider leg. It hurt! I couldn't keep the spider shape for long, and I just sort of… went to sleep. When I woke up, they were carrying me onto a black military plane," he mutters, blinking at me. I nod understandingly, and stand again. I pace over to the wall of our prison, thinking quietly to myself.

"They're not the Flock," I announce, looking around at Kith and Amity.

"How do you know?" Kith asked, frowning.

"The Flock doesn't have access to a plane, as far as I know. Aside from that, their wing colours are different to these guys. And, the Flock wouldn't shoot me up with tranquilizers," I say grimly, although the thought of an angry Max coming at me with a needle did cross me mind briefly.

"No, these guys are Itexicon," I finish flatly. It takes a second for the words to sink into my friends' minds. Kith groans and Amity looks scared. Pup just stares at his shoe laces, lost in thought. We brood in silence for a minute.

"I knew it!" Kith growls walking over and kicking the door heavily. Pup jumps at his angry out burst, and looks around at him worriedly.

Suddenly, there is a creak from somewhere behind our steel prison. Kith looks around the ceiling and the walls in surprise. He turns to me and gives me a look that clearly says that wasn't me.

All around us, we can hear creaking and moaning sounds over the noise of the plane engine. Pup places both his hands on the floor either side of him, looking around with his big black eyes. Amity and I look at each other. Quite suddenly, we feel the floor starting to tilt. I feel myself starting to lose my footing. In front of me, Amity drops herself to the floor and tucks her arms around Pup supportively. Kith and I are only just keeping our bearings. The rough shaking of the plane and the loud noises around us doesn't calm my nerves in the slightest.

We hit a particularly large air pocket, and Kith and I are thrown off our feet. I hit the front wall with a profound thud, and slide back down to the floor painfully. Kith is thrown into the door and bounces off like a ball, hitting the ceiling before landing heavily on the ground next to me. The plane is shaking violently, as if we're flying through a rough storm.

"Kith!" Amity screams, trying to crawl towards us. Kith sits up, shaking his head and I can see a trail of blood running down from his hairline. I reach over and pull his head down gently.

"Kith, stay down!" I yelled at him. I turn to Amity, keeping my head low. She looks as if she's going to be sick.

"Ami! Grab Pup, stay low and crawl over here quickly! They're landing!" I yell at her, and she nods. She looks palely at Kith then turns back and takes Pups hand. She crawls back onto my other side, holding Pup tightly. We are nearly lying on our backs now, with our legs up in the air. We try and lean forward; it is all we can do to stop our heads banging painfully against the steel wall.

"Some warning would've been nice!" Kith shouts over the noise. I glance at him, and i can see that he is bleeding badly from the head. I struggle to pull off my black over shirt, and roll it up. I lean over and pass it to him.

"Press it on your head wound!" I shout over the noise of the plane. He seizes it with a nod and holds it to the top of his head firmly, wincing in pain. I turn my head to look at Amity and Pup. Amity appears quite pale… and Pup seems to be enjoying himself immensely.

Soon, we start to even out.

"We're going to land!" I shout out.

We brace ourselves before we hit, hands over out heads. There is a heavy bump of the wheels hitting the earth, but we're all prepared for it this time. We hear the steady grind of the engines reversing, to slow the plane down and the screech of the tires of the road. Finally, after what seems like hours of driving, we stop.

Amity and I stare at each other uncertainly.

"Now what? she asks, looking sick.
