Disclaimer: My identity has not changed since the first poem of the series was written. As such, I am still not the owner of The Phantom of the Opera or Phantom.

A/N: The second poem of the series describes the event that occurred directly after Erik's mother's refusal to grant him his birthday present. This was a momentous moment in our favorite specter's life, as it was the first time that he gazed into a mirror.

Beyond the Looking Glass

I gazed at a monster

who Stared back

with sun -colored eyes

I moved

he followed

I screamed and drove

my fist into the Glass

the creature shattered to

pieces and I thought

I was safe

But soon I learned

I never destroyed him

merely set him Free

for he followed me

Thirsting for revenge

he appeared in every mirror

and in pools of water

and window panes

if Struck by the right light

forever Haunting me

never saying a word

although his twisted lips

parted in a scream

as I cried out

I grew to wonder

If I were trapped in a mirror

as well

for everyone

screamed as though

they also saw

the Mirror

when they gazed upon me

So I pounded on the glass

And shouted and shrieked

I prayed I could Dream up

a way to be Free
