Metropolis Downfall (Pt. 4: The Escape)

"And that should do it." Knuckles stated as he stood up from his crouching position, having cut through the rope wrapped around the last scientist's wrist with the bundle of Shadow's quills.

"Thank you," the scientist said as he stood up, rubbing both wrist to ease the odd sensation created by the ropes, "but I do believe we have a problem."

"And that would be?" Vector asked in confusion.

"How are we going to get out of here and stop that red Sharpscale from getting the Climatic Reactor."

"The what?" Knuckles asked.

"The machine we came down here for." the leading soldier stated, "If those Sharpscales get a hold of it we might as well be prepared for the Jurassic Era's return."

"But how do we get past those guards? The smaller ones might be easier to deal with but those three big ones could prove a challenge." the other remaining soldier asked in hope for some plan.

"Hey, you know what they say," Knuckles stated as he cracked his knuckles in preparation for a fight, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall."

"Alright then," Shadow looked around the small group, "let's get going. I like to give a personal complaint to Racko along with a chaos spear. Knuckles, if you will."

"Alright, I'll knock, let's hope I hit one of those alien freaks..."

(With Sonic)

"Think you can hack the systems Egrend?" Racko asked as he paced back in forth behind the Sharpscale scientist. Egrend's spiky orange tail twitch in slight irritation as he continued typing on the computer.

"I possibly would if you would stop pestering me, dear brother." Egrend stated as he looked back, orange eyes glaring into yellow ones before he turned his attention back to bright blue screen with a reoccurring pop up with the words 'Accessed Denied" in big red letters, "Stupid humans and their inferior machines."

"If their machines are so inferior why haven't you cracked the code yet." the red Sharpscale stated.

"Because the code would is possibly one that would require me to lose a few IQ points, and why would I need to when I have you."

"Oh come on, is big brother Egrend finally meeting his match in something that outsmarted him." the other Sharpscale grunted in disapproval.

"This stupid password

is not stumping me, I prefer to leave these type of easy things to simpletons like you."

"Stop acting like you know everything you little brat." Egrend growled in frustration as he glared at his younger brother.

"Why you little..."

"Crack the freaking password already." Both brothers looked behind them to see the hedgehog glaring at them, arms crossed and a foot tapping impatiently at their childish actions, "The longer you two keep bickering the longer I have to deal with Grendor being in any possible danger." Egrend quickly returned his attention to the computer and start typing into the screen.

"Sorry, but I cannot figure out this password these humans came up with." Sonic sighed as he shook his head ins light disapproval.

"Have you tried password?" Egrend chuckled as he typed it in anyway.

"You must be crazy, the password cannot be..."

"PASSWORD ACCEPTED, UPLOADING CLIMATIC REACTOR DATA."

"Well what do you know," the orange alien stated in shock, "it was password." The sound of talons clicking on the ground caused all three creatures to turn around, seeing a emerald green Sharpscale rush into the room.

"Commander Racko," the alien panted before continuing, "the prisoners have escaped and..."

"Sonic!" a loud whining sound was heard as blue ears perked up in worry as the large Sharpscale came barreling into the area, blood streaking his sides along with large purple bruises scattered across his black scaly body. The area shook as the creature suddenly dropped to the ground, curling around himself and slowly licked at the injuries in discomfort.

"You worthless mutated freak," Racko yelled out in anger, unaware to the growing growl from the experimented mobian, "you dare come back and whine about your pathetic...ack!" A gloved hand quickly wrapped around his throat once more, and he quickly realized who it was as he was roughly spun around to stare into slitted green eyes.

"Don't you dare call him a worthless mutated freak, understand Racko." the hedgehog snarled out, causing the red alien to nod his head rapidly in hope of being let out of the others grip. He was roughly dropped down to ground as he gasped for breath, watching the mammal rush to the injured Sharpscale's side.

"You ok Grendor." the large alien got moved slightly out of his curled position, looking down at the smaller being. Grendor smiled as he rubbed against the hedgehog, nearly knocking him over.

"Sonic," he stated as Sonic scratched at the back of his jaw, causing him to purr in pleasure from the sensation, "I'm ok, but slightly hurting."

"Don't worry, you rest now. We'll deal with the pests who harmed you later." He stated as he stroked the creature's head. Grendor purred once more before tucking his hand underneath his upper hands, allowing the hedgehog to glimpse at the alien grasped in the dozing Sharpscale's hand. Quickly approaching the hand, he uncurled the fingers slowly to avoid waking the large reptilian-like creature as the yellow Sharpscale was released from his hold.

"Hey you," the Sharpscale shook his head roughly in an attempt to get rid of the dizzy feeling that he was in before looking at the blue hedgehog, "explain to me how Grendor got hurt and I might let you live."

"Addanc risked his life saving that blasted black freak," a low growl caused the alien to gulp and pause, looking for a way to fix his previous statement, "I mean...oh forget it." he gave up with trying to rephrase the beginning and jumped to the point, "Anyway, the prisoners escaped and Grendor and I barely made it here."

"Explain to me how this all happened." The blue hedgehog asked as he became more interested, ignoring the fact that he just insulted the giant Sharpscale behind him.

"You want the short story, or the long one?" Green eyes glanced toward the orange alien genius , Racko staring at the screen behind him in slight impatience and interest.

"Egrend, how long will it take for you to find the information we came here to retrieve?"

"About fifteen minutes, less if I can get rid of some of the viruses but on here for safety and speed up the download process." Sonic looked back at the yellow one in front of him.

"The long one if you may. This would be a good way to pass the time until they show their face again."

"Well, while the big guys rested, we played a bit of what these humans called 'Poker.'" he stated as his clawed hands air quoted around the word Poker.

(Earlier with Group 4)

The seven smaller Sharpscales sat in a circle that enclosed the pile of greenish red coins piled up in the center next to a deck of cards. The sound of the snores that came from the three larger members didn't faze them as they continued on with their games, eyes glancing between the five cards in their clawed hands and their comrades.

"See it in weep boys," the yellow Sharpscale stated excitedly as he revealed his hand to the others, "I believe this is what these humans call a 'full house.'" He grinned widely as he noticed most of the other expression dropped to either disappointment or anger. One had even flung his cards to ground and rambled in their kind's language. He reached for the pile, but was stopped as the alien beside him uncurled his closes wing to halt him in his course.

"I believe you are mistaken for your win Krogatro, but I am the true winner for as you can see," he revealed his set of cards to the group, causing Krogatro to stare at the cards, "I have a royal flush."

"God dammit, Fledrok, and you had me excited that I finally won a round." the yellow one stated in slight anger as Fledrok smirked.

"Always best to have the element of surprise." A loud booming sound echoed, causing all seven to jump in surprise before hearing the scraping sound of metal against metal as a door slid toward them.

"I couldn't agree more." They all whipped their heads to the voice as they notice Shadow smirking in response. All the other they had escorted were standing close to him, the echidna cracking his knuckles as he prepared for a fight while the remaining two G.U.N. soldiers picked up the guns placed a few feet from the door and aimed them at the group.

"What the...how in the world did you escape?!" the cyan Sharpscale of the group shouted in surprise as Addanc quickly reached for his gun he placed near him for safety.

"It doesn't matter; Fledrok, wake the big guys, grab your weapons if you have any and fight." the purple alien ordered as he aimed his gun and fired, a purplish beam shooting out and heading toward the group. They all dodged to the side, the beam causing an explosion as it contacted the wall behind them, leaving a big hole in it. The three larger Sharpscales began to stir at the sound, the medium sized one quickly jumped to their feet while the the black alien surveyed the scene in slight astonishment and wonder, no sign of the thirst of blood the other two had shown in their wakening.

The G.U.N. soldiers and scientists hid behind one of the rubble created from the blast. The two soldiers fired any time they got a chance, avoiding any counter fire received as the mobians engaged the small group of Sharpscales.

"Ugh, you annoying insect," the turquoise Sharpscale grumbled as he swatted a Charmy with lizard-like arms, his clawed hands missing the taunting bee, which he growled out in frustration, "wait 'til I get my claws on you." He hissed in sudden pain as red eyes looked down to notice the green crocodile at his feet, breathing a torrent of flames on his four toed feet. He lifted it up and attempted to step on him, but the mobian reptile noticed it and dodged to side.

"Hey, hey, that tickles." the large black one laughed out as Espio threw a set of exploding shuriken at the being, who simply laughed as the stars barely scratched the hard scales in any way. He's laughter stopped when he received a high-heeled shoe to the face, "Hey, well that wasn't very nice." He rubbed at the small sore on his snout as he attempted to shoo away the bat, flinching slightly as he accidentally sent the bat hurling through the air, "Oops, sorry."

"Don't apologize to these inferior being." Addanc stated as he jumped to the side, avoiding the yellow chaos spear with ease, "Now fight back you giant imbecile." He fired his gun at the red-striped hedgehog, who avoided and countered with another chaos spear.

"Yes Addanc sir." his tail swished to the side, roughly striking a wall as he stood to his feet. The ground shook slightly as he took a step forward, knocking a few mobians and his comrades from the small force.

"Aim for the big guy." one of the soldiers stated as he fired his gun at the alien. The target cringed as he felt the bullet pierce his scale and sunk in a few inches into his hide.

"Well you know what the say," Knuckles stated as the echidna punched his opponent in the face, sending him sprawling on the ground with a blood-covered snout, "the bigger they are the harder they fall." He rushed in to assist the chameleon, bat, and humans in the battle with the Sharpscale.

"Oh no you don't." the purple alien angrily said as he aimed at the echidna, forgetting about the hedgehog for a few seconds. Shadow aimed a chaos spear at Addanc's hand, causing him to hiss in pain as they smoked slightly from the impact. The black hedgehog threw a punch, connecting with the creature's jaw as he turned to focus on him, sending him sprawling on the ground. His gun slid a few inches above him as the hedgehog stood above him.

"Sorry, but I your big guy got to go down." the hedgehog smirked as Addanc growled in response.

"You idiot, you don't understand what you just got yourself into." He cringed as he looked back, spotting several purple bruises appeared on his sides from the echidna, "Krogatro. get Grendor out of here and warn Racko. Everyone else, defend their retreat." He kicked at the hedgehog, causing him to grunt slightly as the foot impacted his stomach.

"Yes sir." the yellow Sharpscale stated, being relieved to get away from the pink hedgehog with the cursed hammer. He fired at the white bat, who dodged to the side, but didn't notice the lime scaled Sharpscale that tackled her in the air. Fledrok tussled with the red echidna as another distracted the chameleon for a few moments. He climbed into the out-held hand of the injured alien. Grendor closed his hand around the Sharpscale before turning around, accidentally knocking one of the Sharpscales down as he retreated deeper into the lab, heading for wherever Racko was.

"You guys are going to get it now." Fledrok grinned as he swept his tail underneath the echidna before tossing him behind him.

"What do you mean by that?" Tails asked as he hovered above the mobians, now assembled into a near straight line with the humans behind them. The Sharpscales were in a similar fashion with the taller ones behind them.

"Let's just say,"Addanc mischievously grinned as he looked at each mobain and human,

"Sonic's going to tear you to pieces for messing with his little pet."
