Chapter 31: Darkness Remains

Tom Marvolo Riddle, now known as Lord Voldemort, had a really bad last few months. In June, he sent a vision to lure Harry Potter, the brat who lived, out of the protection of Hogwarts and into the Department of Mysteries where a prophecy was being held.

In retrospect, Voldemort knew he should have gone himself months before he lured Potter there and retrieved the prophecy. Because of the failure of his death eaters, the Ministry of Magic, and all of the wizarding world, now knew that he had indeed returned.

To top off this list of failures, a number of his inner circle were thrown into Azkaban and he himself used up far too much energy in his duel with the Muggle Loving Fool, Albus Dumbledore. However what really hurt Voldemort was when he possessed Harry. Using the connection they shared, Voldemort tried to get Old Dumbledore to kill the brat, however the…love…this brat had was enough to force Tom out and wound him even further.

Between losing Fudge and Umbridge, and a number of servants who served on the Wizengamot, Voldemort wanted to strike out and kill the boy and Dumbledore; all he need was the right opportunity.

Two months later the opportunity presented itself in the form of Severus Snape. Snape, his spy within Hogwarts, informed him that Harry Potter, his wife–the daughter of the blood traitor Weasleys–Jin…Gin…Gen…something, and the muggle loving fool Albus Dumbledore were going to be in Diagon Alley. Potter wanted to have a press conference, to explain what he was doing to destroy Hogwarts, in Voldemort's view. Voldemort knew he was still weak from battling Dumbledore in the Ministry of Magic, but he could let this opportunity pass him by.

So on the day of the press conference, Voldemort summoned all of his death eaters, with the exception of Snape, and they apparated to Diagon Alley. Voldemort and his death eaters attacked, planning on causing as much damage as possible. However Voldemort underestimated his adversaries. First he felt very strong Anti Apparition and Anti Portkey Wards snap into place. These were very strong wards; even though Voldemort knew he could penetrate them, he knew that it would take quite a bit of effort. As the wards went up, Aurors, Goblins and members of Dumbledore's Order of the Phoenix all sprang into action, killing or capturing many of his followers.

Voldemort then saw the same children that had fought his Death Eaters last spring in the Department of Mysteries. They had been trained in both magical and sword fighting; Voldemort had to admit that he was impressed with their fighting. They were better fighters then anyone of his Inner Circle. If they weren't all blood traitors, he might have asked them to join him.

Then his duel with Dumbledore began. Dumbledore was tired from fighting to get to him, but he was still a very strong. Voldemort felt his magic beginning to waver, but the wards were still too strong to do anything. Suddenly the Potter brat pushed Dumbledore out of the way and began to duel the Dark Lord.

Potter was still dressed in those awful Gryffindor Colored robes, but Voldemort could tell he had some sort of armor on underneath them. Harry was battling Voldemort with every fiber of being when Voldemort saw the blade Potter was carrying. It was the sword of Gryffindor, the last missing relic of one of the founders of Hogwarts.

Voldemort then got an up close view of the sword as it cut off his leg and wand arm. With this kind of damage, Voldemort lost control of magic and turned into the black specter which was able to weaken the wards, allowing him to apparate.

Soon after his meeting with his remaining servants, Voldemort, his Bella, and Johnson were transported to his sanctuary in the Amazon. The sanctuary was a place of old dark magic, it was where human sacrifices were made to gods. Voldemort had Johnson lower Bella and himself into a crypt, filled with some sort of potion. Voldemort then called one of the Mamba's that lived in the sanctuary to kill the servant. Johnson's blood spilled into the potion, causing the process to begin.

And so Voldemort lay in this potion, his only company was his own thoughts and his servant Bellatrix who was still unconscious. Once their bodies were restored, they would return and kill both Dumbledore and Potter, all he needed to do was be patient. His servant, Severus Snape, had been placed in charge of his Death Eaters and was recruiting more, younger, smarter, faster, and stronger, servants for him to send out to cause mayhem.

'Yes, soon I will return and finish Salazar Slytherin's great work.' Without any other thought, Voldemort closed his eyes, and fell into darkness where he dreamed of sitting on a throne made of Dumbledore's and Potter's bones.
