hey guys so this didn't work out like I wanted to but I'm not sure if its better than what I had in mind or not, so this hopefully show Mia in a new light while also providing some information about her time at the council and who she used to be. chapter 13: same old same old
It had one long confusing week since Alexander came to Portland on a mission to kill a boy who was infected with the recently discovered Grausen disease, however when he returned to the council and told De Groot of his findings he began to set certain things into motion. Such as De Groot sending an email to Mia requesting her presence at the council as soon as possible to discuss the things that Alexander had seen while he was in Portland. Despite Nick's pleas for her not to go Mia had began to pack her suitcase so that she could leave the next day, she knew that if she didn't go to them when they requested then it would only be a matter of time before they came to her and Nick. Mia wanted more than anything to keep Nick as far away from the council as much as humanly possible since she knew that getting involved with them led nowhere good, especially for a Grimm with a reputation like Nick's. Although Nick put a spanner into the works when he decided to tell Monroe about her plans to go to the council which lead to a four hour discussion of the pros and cons of her going and in the end they decided that it was better to face whatever their next move was sooner rather than later. Mia decided to wear a striped t-shirt with a pair of red lips on it, jeans, a hooded leather biker jacket and a pair of biker boots. She simply pulled the front two sides of her hair up and tied them loosely at the back, she wore light smoky make up and light red lip gloss. She was packing the last of things away in the bedroom while Nick sat on the bed watching and praying that she would turn at round to him at any moment to tell him that the trip was off
" you know you could help me rather just sitting there and silently judging me" she said with the faint traces of a smile as she went into the bathroom to grab her toiletry bag and her make up bag to put in her suitcase
" I'm just worried and honestly can you blame me? I mean one minute Monroe is telling me that they plan to kill you and next they are invite you over dinner, you don't think that seems like it might be a set up" he said as he got up and zipped up her suitcase for her while she began to pack her carry on, her flight wasn't for another four hours
" yeah it is a possibility but my alternative is for them to come here and trust me no one wants that, it's better if I go to them and at least pretend I'm willing to their play game and by their rules. I mean its what I used to do best" she said knowing that the rules of being a guest or agent in the council were forever burned into her brain, it had an old fashioned view on things
" what if you're a little rusty after 13 years of being free of them? I mean have you ever considered that maybe thats what they want and you're just playing right into their hands?" he said trying to reason with her once more while she began to put her phone, tickets, iPod, earphones and her passport into her carry on bag
"yeah but I know what they want, they want me back there being an agent with Alexander so that one day when the current council members retire we can takeover, its what they wanted 13 years ago" she said leaving her bag on the bed before sitting on the window bay chair and gestured for him to sit with her, he sat down and gestured for her to cuddle into him
" and that doesn't scare you?" he asked knowing that it defiantly terrified him enough that he was considering asked Renard on his advice and possibly his help in avoiding her going to them
" not really, I mean I survived once right?….. tell me whats really worrying you?" she asked twisting around in his arms so that she could see his face, she knew that he was a good liar but when it came to her his eyes always seemed to betray him by showing every emotion he was feeling
" I'm worried that you're not going to come home? and then what am I meant to do? just pretend like none of this happened, like you never happened?" he asked gently combed her hair through his fingers as she moved closer to him and pulled him for gentle kiss that soon turned into a full on make out session
" no matter what happens or what they try to do to me there is nothing is going to stop me from coming back to you got it?" she said knowing that it was true, she had no idea what she was walking into but she knew that it had to be done in order for her to get her happy ever after ending that she wanted so badly
" ok so tell me why you're agreed to go again?" he said hugging her closer to him since he knew that he was going to have to let her go sooner enough so that she could catch her plane in time and begin her plan
"I agreed because this way I can tell De Groot that I want them to forget about me which means no more trying to get me back or following me. I'm going so that I can them to stop and we'll be somewhat safe without them on our backs"she said knowing there was a lot more than just council out there that posed a threat to them and their relationship
" what about Alexander?" he said remembering the way he touched her arms as she tried to leave the interrogation room and the way he talked about the girl that he had fallen in love with while they both lived in the council training together
" what about him?" she said sitting up a little further as she looked at while she gave him an amused smirk as she realised that he was more than a little bit jealous over whatever had happened between her and Alexander all those years ago
" well clearly he isn't over you and I'm thinking he might use the familiarity of your surroundings and everything to make a move on you" he said knowing that was exactly what he would do if the girl he loved was returning to the place where it had all began for them
" he can try but like I already told him the girl he fell in love with doesn't exist anymore, I left her behind when I ran away from the council" she said knowing that she had only ever allowed Alexander to call her Emmie which is why her heart began to ache with the familiarity of it when he called on her
" what happened between you two?" he asked since he struggled to see her and him together, however he was well aware that they had both been different people back then something that had changed when she left
" we had always been rivals during training then soon it turned from hate to more than that I guess, he was my first kiss…it was one night when we were fighting and he had pinned on the floor and before I knew what was happening he kissed me" she said remembering that she was so confused and scared by what that had meant since she could never work out what he was thinking
" did you love him?" he asked feeling like it was a valid question for him to ask since she knew about some of his past relationships but he had yet to learn anything for hers, although he knew from Monroe that she had always kept her heart well guarded
" no I meant that part too, I never felt about him the way he felt about me and I think a part of him knew that too. He would tell me that loved me and I would simply say me too but I never actually said because I never really felt it I guess" she said knowing that it sounded harsher than it was meant to be but they viewed their situations differently, Alexander saw it as a honour and she saw it as captivity
" I love you Mia which means you need to come back so that we can be grow old together and what not ok?" he said trying to down play how worried he was that something was going to happen to her and that he wasn't going to be there to save her from that
" well thats good because I just so happen to be in love with you Nick Burkhardt… I should finished getting ready to go want to help?" she asked after breaking apart the kiss that Nick had pulled here in for, he knew that he could never survive losing her like he had almost done with Juliette
"well I had other plans in mind" he said as he began to playfully pull on the edge of her t-shirt before she allowed him to take it off as they began to passionately, Nick then lifted her so that he could gently lay her down on top of the bed
Eventually she arrived at council headquarters in Venice after a flight that lasted 11 hours and a long drive from the airport, as the car took her to the council's headquarters she quickly texted Nick and Monroe to tell them that she had arrived safe and sound so far. She had packed her laptop so that she could video call Nick at night as well as the fact that she might need it to browse any information that she cam across. When she walked into the building where the council met and trained their future agents she was met by the receptionist who led her to her temporary bedroom where she would be staying during her stay. As soon as she was left alone in the empty, she sat on her bed trying to block all the memories that were beginning to come rushing back to her. She could remember Alexander and their friend Matthew chasing her through the halls because she had deliberately poured water all over them during dinner one night after he had made a snarky comment about her. Her phone interrupted another memory coming into mind as she received a text from Nick telling her that he loved her and to be safe, she quickly sent him reply back when there was a knock at the door. She allowed them to come in as she pretended to be busy unpacking her bag as she began to hang her clothes in the wardrobe, she turned around to see a smart but slightly more relaxed than normal looking Alexander. He was wearing a dark blue suit with a matching blue waistcoat, a white shirt and a black tie.
" hey I just came to see how you were settling in? The word had spread that the infamous Emilia was back so I thought it was only right to pop in and say hello" he said closing the door behind him as she stop what she was doing since there was no need to pretend with him, although she was still on the defence with him
" ummm yeah its fine, I never thought that I would in one of the guest bedrooms I mean when I came in a part of me wanted to go back to my bedroom" she said as she moved her now empty suitcase under her bed before sitting back on the bed while he stayed by the door with his back leaning against it
" yeah I did that the first few times I can back after officially becoming an agent, do you remember that time that we decided to paint your bedroom wall?" he said as she began to laugh as the memory came flooding back before she realised the reason why they had decided to paint it
" we draw the woods because I was feeling homesick and you asked me if I had special place at home where I would go to think and I told you about my thinking rock in the woods…. we go into so much trouble for defacing the walls" she said thinking that all the signs of her unhappiness where were they but maybe they weren't as obvious to him
" you know just because you ran away doesn't change the fact that we actually had some great times here like the time where we made cookies in the kitchen when everyone else was in bed or the time where we had paint fight" he said as they began to laugh since they both knew that for every example they had gotten into trouble or left a huge mess behind him
" true I did fun here sometimes but it doesn't change the fact that at the end of the day here miles away from my family" she said recognising what he was trying to do so she decided that she stick to the facts rather than take a trip down memory road
" here I thought me and the others became some kind family to you after all the years we spent training and learning together but hey maybe that was just me" he said as they settled into an awkward silence of sorts where Mia began to regret her wording slightly as she realised that he was right, they had been the closest thing to family she had at the council
"so when do I get the pleasure of seeing De Groot again? let me guess he was less than pleased with what you learned about me on your trip to Portland" she said being able to see his reaction in her head which gave her a small amount of joy to know that she could reel him up like and still be miles away from
" actually thats the other reason I'm here, he wanted to invite you dinner tonight and like always he asked for you to be dressed proper" he said leaving the information about his reaction out of that statement since he knew it was always best to leave her wanted more, it meant you would be able her longer
" yeah I know I remember the rules but you try wearing a skirt or a dress on an airplane for 11 hours, I'd rather dress for comfort than to please him when he won't even see me till tonight" she said taking off her biker jacket and placing it on one of the coat hanger before putting it away with the rest of her clothes
"well I should leave you to get ready for tonight and whatnot….. I think he was more shocked to hear that you were involved with the Grimm than that you interfered with my mission to deal with the Grausen" he said before leaving her alone with her thoughts, she couldn't but notice that he carefully selected his words to glaze over the truth such as avoiding the truth by using words like boy or killing
After a small nap to shake off the jet lag that was beginning to take an effect on her, Mia decided that she should probably beginning to get ready for what could only described as one of the worst dinner that she was forced to go to. Although she knew that the way to win De Groot's heart was to show up at least ten minutes early and to be dressed as the lady that she was taught to be, the council taught their agents the art of using their sex to their advantage. Which meant that Mia had been taught what a lady such as herself should wear with what, how to walk tall in high heels, how to eat appropriately and even how to talk. When she thought about it, the council's main aim when it came to their agents was for them to blend by fluently speaking the native languages, by dressing for the part and using every advantage that they had or could get. Mia decided to wear a light pink skater dress, a lace white biker jacket and white high heels since she thought it was both a prefect blend of the person she was with the person she was pretending to be for them. She tied her hair up in a high but slightly loose bun with a gold headband that tied at the back with ribbon, she wore black eyeliner with light brown eyeshadow and light pink lip gloss. She put on her jewellery that matched her dress perfectly then grabbed her white bag which held her phone and all her essentials that she might need. When she eventually arrived at the restaurant where she was supposed to meet De Groot for dinner to discuss everything she was surprised to another male at the table waiting for her. She automatically realised what they game plan was for her stay, to remind her of all the good times and bombard her with the familiar. She walked over to the table with a smile plastered on her face while her eyes did all the talk.
" Wow isn't this is a surprise? De Groot's errand boy showed up in the place of his madter, what he didn't feel like facing me again?" she said sitting the chair opposite Alexander, she knew it was no accident that this had happened which was why she felt that her attitude was well warranted since he knew that she hated to be played like that
" I promise that this not on purpose, he called me to meet him here for a minute so we could discuss something but then he had to cancel on both of us and told me to attend to the dinner with you" he said hoping that she would believe him but he had a feeling that after all these years she was a little less willing to believe the best in people like she used to
" yeah because none of this screams of a set up, I'm betting that this was his plan all along to make us have dinner so that we could reminisce about all the fun we had together….I need a drink" she said suddenly feeling tired as she tried to out play them but decided to just not to play at all, like all bullies they would eventually just get bored before she went back home as she took her jacket off
" it beats staying in that empty room all night by yourself right?….we don't need to talk about the past, why don't you tell about what I've missed about you in the last 13 years?" he said as he poured her a glass of wine with the bottle that was already opened and sitting on the table between then, he poured himself a glass
" well I went to NYU and majored in both english and history then I got my teaching degree so now I teach high schoolers, although sometimes I help my brother's girlfriend with her shop. What about you?" she asked out of politeness while being careful not to mention any names in case she got anyone else in trouble, she began to read the menu to decide what to have for dinner
" well I've pretty much being doing various tasks for the council, I actually teach different combating skills to the new trainees which can be interesting" he said not wanting to go into too much detail about what exactly he did for the council since she had made pretty clear what her view on the subject was
" Ciao io sono Lucianna e sarò la tua cameriera stasera, cosa posso ottenere? (Hi I'm lucianna and I'll be your waitress tonight, what can I get you?)" said a young woman in her early twenties, she had long blonde straight hair that was nearly braided into a fishtail braid
"Avrò il surf e regole senza la salsa di vino rosso per favore (I'll have the surf and turf without the red wine sauce please)" he said wondering how much Italian Mia would remember after all these years of only speaking english and not using the skills she was taught by the council
"e avrò i broccoli e cuocere la pasta per favore(and I'll have the broccoli and pasta bake please)" she said in a perfect accent as if she was Italian, although he realised not for the first time that she blended in well due to her toned skin and dark hair
"I see you remember all of those language classes we took…. are you still a Wieder Blutbad then?" he asked noticing that she had ordered a vegetarian dish rather than a meat based one like him, he remembered that she had always chose the vegetarian option at the cafeteria when they were younger for the same reason
"yeah I am, although it takes more than just not eating meat I mean I need to do some form of exercise every day and when I really feel out of control I need to take certain drugs. Plus its easier now that my brother is one too" she said taking a sip of wine as she felt her self beginning to relax a little, although a voice at the back of her that sounded a lot like Nick told her to keep her guard up
" I bet you're parents love that….. do they know about you and the Grimm?" he asked knowing that her parents were very old fashioned when it can to wesen ways such as believing that she should find a nice blurbed man to settle down with and have blutbaden children
" His name is Nick and no they don't but we've only been dating for 5 months so I don't see any point in getting everyone worked up for nothing, I'll tell them if it gets serious like if he asks me to marry him or something stupid like that " she said trying not to let it show that the possibility of that scared her since their relationship was still new and anything could happen
" you would really marry him? this is a man whose job it is to kill wesen, whose ascenders have killed hundreds of wesen including some of your family members" he said still finding it hard how she could just forget all of that and be with him, he knew of the reputation that Nick was earning by doing things out of the norm
" who am I to judge him for what his family members have dome? family members that he has never met by the way, I mean its not like my ascenders are exactly innocent. Anyways Nick isn't like the Grimms we told horror stories about or the ones we learned to fear in history class" she said remember thinking that other children at her age were told that the monsters under weren't real while she was told that not were they very real but a constant threat to her and her loved ones
"oh I've heard all about how different he is….I mean rather than letting me do what needed to be done and what has always been, he decided to go off on his own" he said knowing that if it was his mother or aunt then they would have informed the council so that they could deal with them as they were taught by their Grimm relatives
"he saved that little boy's life, a little boy that you were going to kill because he was ill. I mean I know the Grausen thing being a disease is a new discovery but still" she said feeling that it had to be said, if it was competition of who was worse between Alexander and Nick… well Alexander won hands down in Mia's eyes
For the rest of the night Alexander and Mia tried to avoid all conversations that could end up with them arguing, eventually they were laughing over the good times about how much trouble they got each other into. After dinner they went for a walk through the city through Venice before getting a car back to the council since it was outside the city and too far to walk more so since she was wearing heels. As they walked through the quiet halls of the council building Mia took off her shoes so that people would hear them as much, although they were still laughing and were now a little more than tipesy since they drank three bottles of wine between them. Suddenly they heared whispered shouts and giggles as they turned a corner to find a boy and girl who were no more than 14 as they tried to sneak into the gym which was deserted at night. As soon as they saw Alexander they knew that they had been caught doing thing they shouldn't have.
" James and Lena, just what do you think you're doing out of bed past curfew?" he asked the two as he put on his instructor voice that was meant to intimidate them, Mia recognised it as the voice she used with students who were annoying her by not listening or by messing around
" we were…were umm just trying to get in extra combat training in so that we could get better like you Mr Knightly" James said trying to come up a convincing lie while Lena looked at Mia as if trying to work out who she was before remembering that she had seen her in a photo of past students
" really? well I'm sure that as our top combat fighters trainees can afford to take some time out and rest for the night to prepare for tomorrow classes, go back to bed!" he said as James took Lena's hand in his as a way to get her to follow him, since he seemed to recognise that she was in deep thought
" you're Emilia right? you were number one in your class pretty much till you ran away two years before you were meant to become a full agent, you were like the best there was" she said in awe as she surprised Mia by who she was since she was pretty shun out for what she did, not that she minded all that much
"yeah thats me and thanks although I'm not sure how Mr Knightly would agree with that statement since he's convinced that he was the best, even though I could easily beat him" she said making her laugh before James dragged her away as Alexander gave her a look to say that she wasn't helping like she thought she was
" thanks for that, now tomorrow's classes will be filled with talk about the prodigal daughter's return… hey fancy a detour?" he said as they came to a staircase that they knew all too well since it led to the roof where they used to spend all their free time at night or whenever they could get away
" why not? one more trip down memory won't kill me right?" she said as she opened the door and began to run up the stairs till she came to the roof door and slammed against to force it to open, as it opened Mia fell slightly
" you know I haven't been up here since the last time we were here together, do you remember that?" he said watching her as she went to the brink wall that surrounded the roof as she looked out on the countryside and in the distance the city of Venice
" yeah it was the night before I ran away, you brought me up here to tell that you knew I was up to something and were determined to find out then I told you it was a surprise party to celebrate you becoming an agent which I did organise kinda" she said feeling as if she had never left and they were back to being teenagers again, it was strange it was like time stopped still in the council building
"because I seen you talking in secret with Erin and her brother then there was the fact that you were distant but I let you convince nothing was wrong" he said knowing that she was the type of girl that could lead you astray if you let her, there was something about her that made you want to please her
"thats because more than anything you wanted to believe nothing was wrong, that I was just like you and every time I tried to tell yo-" she said before she was interrupted by him trying to kiss her, however Mia moved away for him and then slapped him for trying to make a move on her
" what was that for? Emmie you know that you want this and you know that deep down you still love me, just like you did when we were together" he said leaning into her again before she walked away further from him as she felt her anger begin to build as she realised that he had been manipulating her all night
" seriously? Its Mia! you were only one who ever called me that…..and I already told you I am in love with Nick and no amount of memories or good times is going to make me forget that" she said as she grabbed her shoes and ran back to her room where she tried not to think about everything that just happened or what she would tell Nick
The next morning she woke up to find a note underneath her door to inform her about a meeting between her and De Groot later that morning, she scrunched the note up in her hand as she began to remember what had happened between her and Alexander the night before. She grabbed her phone to check whether or not she had missed anything while she was sleeping, she noticed that she had missed several phones and texts from not only Monroe and Nick but R osalee too, although they swore that nothing was wrong and that they were only worried about her. After sending back replies that everything was fine but that she couldn't talk for long since she had a meeting to prepare for, she knew that she would need to have her wits about her if she was going to survive whatever De Groot had planned for her. Mia wore a green dress with a thin waist belt, black tights, a white blazer and green high heels. She decided to curl the end of her hair more then place half it up into a small messy bun of curls, Mia's eye makeup was a soft with a slight brown colour on the outside of her eyelids and her lipgloss was a very light pink colour. She realised that she still had an hour till her meeting she decided to grab her phone and explore the area more while everyone was on the move, although she knew there was a high that she was going to bump into someone she knew or didn't want to see. As she wondered down one of the halls she noticed a class of trainees who looked as if they were 16 being taught how to fight using their individual skills that came with their species of wesen, it was strange to see a room filled with fully wogaed wesen without anyone worrying about being caught. Mia was so absorbed in watching the trainees that she never realised that someone had approached her till they were standing right be side her
"you know I didn't believe it when they said that you had came back, I mean I didn't think you would have the nerve to show up after the way you treated everyone by leaving like that" said a blonde female with an elegant American accent, it was a voice that Mia knew all too well even if it was that she never really liked
" Harper, I see that you're still here pretending to own the place and I'm sorry are you anger at me leaving? because if I remember correctly we were never friends, most of the time we didn't even like each other" Mia said with a smirk that told the other girl exactly what she thought about her and her views on what she did
" well I was the one that had to pick up the pieces of Al's broken heart but then again you always did leave a path of destruction everywhere you went" she said walking closer to her, Mia had to admit that working for the council seemed to suit Harper, she was currently wearing a cream coloured dress with a think dark brown waist belt and nude heels
" you mean Alexander? I'm pretty sure that you were more than happy to help him feel better and hey this way you two can be the power couple that you wanted to be" she said knowing that Harper had always hated the fact that Mia had gained things like De Groot's approval and Alexander's love without trying or really wanting it while it was everything that she wanted
"so why are you back? I mean if I were De Groot and the other council members I would make you beg before I'd allow you to come" she said as Mia realised the reason that they had never liked each other, everything about them was polar opposite even the way they styled their hair was different as Mia was left her brown hair curly while Harper left her blonde hair straight
" well thank god you're not them then and I'm not here to ask forgiveness, I am here to tell them to leave me alone. Harper you're more than welcome to this world because I am so done with this and you" she said realising that she wasn't the same girl who simply said things to please others or did things because that was the way it had to be, she was so much stronger than that now as she began to walk
" I never understood why it was all so easy for you I mean sometimes it was like you didn't even try and all that time you didn't even want it Emilia " she said in a low voice as if it physically pained her to admit it, her confession made Mia stop in her tracks and turn to face her
"maybe it was because I didn't care as much as you, you all saw this whole thing as some big honour while I saw it as a really fancy prison" she said showing her that she wasn't messing around anymore, she knew that if things kept going the way they were then one of them were going to end up with a black eye and Mia had a feeling who it was going to be
" Ladies I see you're playing as nicely as you always have, Emilia I figured I would come and get you to show to De Groot's office" Niklaus said in a perfectly polished english accent that instantly brought a smile to Mia's face as she threw her arms around his neck as she gave a long awaited hug
"Niklaus, Its so good to see you…. thanks by the way for all your help with you know what, they don't suspect anything do they?" she asked once they began to walk down the hall that led to De Groot's office where he was apparently waiting for her, she figured it was safe since they were alone
" not as far as I know, Alexander told De Groot that you had hacked into his computer from Portland to access all the documents that related back to you and he seemed to believe it….please tell me you have a game plan for going in there alone?" he said reminding her of all the times he tried to look out for her during their training, in a lot of ways he was like her big brother when Monroe couldn't be around
" good then they bought the story I told him and as much as plan as I always do meaning that I have my main aims but nothing much past that but I'm stubborn and determined so we'll see" she said with a chuckle since he knew all to well what she could be like, once she got something in her head it never left until she did it the way she wanted
"just remember that you're in his house which means following his rules but don't let him walk all over you because they actually do have a very detailed game plan" he told her as they arrived outside of De Groots office as he knocked on the door before waiting to be told to enter, Mia told a deep calming breath to try and calm herself down as her mind and heart both began to race
"enter….Aww Emilia, we finally get to see each other after all these years and I have to say you are looking well…. that will be all Niklaus" he said signalling for him to leave alone before gesturing for Mia to sit down on the chair in front of his desk, she tried her best to not let it show her nervous she suddenly was about going through with her plan
"Mr De Groot, I'm sorry that you couldn't attend our dinner last night I mean I was looking so forward to our reunion" she said realising that her voice and tone was a sickly sweet way that anyone who knew her would recognise as being fake, although she knew he would never be able to work it out
" as was I but I trust that you and Mr Knightly had a pleasant evening without me, I thought that Mr Knightly would be a better dinner date than I" he said showing her that he had meant to leave them to have dinner by themselves so that they could reconnect, in the hopes that they rekindle their previous flame for each other
"well it was nice to catch up and reminisce over the good times we had here but reality has a nasty habit of bringing you back to earth and reminding you everything that the memories of the good times tend to bury" she said in an almost snide way as she hinted to the fact that his plan had began to work before she had put a stop to it when Alexander had went too far by trying to kiss her
"I did think if anything was going to pull you back to us and who you were then it would Alexander, although he was never very good at keeping you in line" he said sitting back in his chair as he watched her smile in snide snarky way as she realised that all the politeness was over, it made things so much easier for her
"but he was always best at being your little puppet right? way better than I ever could be even with a man keeping me in nice and rained in like the good girl I never was. Why don't you say whatever it is that you wanted to say so I can get out of here ?" she said not wanting to be there any longer than she had to be, she wanted nothing more than to be in bed with Nick snuggling up while they watched some bad chick flick as he mocked her and the film as she threw popcorn at him
" Alexander informed me that not only did you prevent him from carrying out official council business but you are also in a relationship with a Grimm, what do you have to say for yourself?"
