hey guys so I have changed the end of this so its a little different from the ending of 3x12 just because I felt that their dad might have a stronger reaction to Nick since Mia is dating him. chapter 16: devil's backbone
Today was one of those rare days where Nick had been able to pin Mia down enough for them to make their way through their list of bills and taxes as they sat at the dining table with them laid out, her with her laptop opened playing music and him with the notepad and check book. As it was a Sunday neither of them had to work unless Nick was called in for a case which is why he decided that they should spend the day doing this rather than watching a movie or going to the park to read like she wanted to wore green plaid leggings, a grey laced trimmed t-shirt and black ankle boots. That morning she really wasn't in any mood to anything amazing with her hair she she had just left it natural and messy, her eye make was light with a tough of smudged eyeliner and light pink lips. Since she was on the computer for a long time she ware wearing her glasses, she had sent Nick into the kitchen to get them both some more coffee. While he was gone Mia decided to check her emails and texts since he couldn't catch her procrastinating
" I got an email from Holly, she said that she's loving her new job at the Portland Press Herald and as soon as she has her apartment all sorted she'll invite us for dinner" she said loud enough for Nick to hear her from the kitchen as she skims through the email and begins to write back a reply to her, since Holly had left their place a few weeks ago she had been trying to rebuild her life again
"I'm glad that she doing so well, although I bet knowing that James is as far away from her as possible is really helping her move on" he said coming back in the room with two cups filled with streaming coffee, he placed hers down in front of her before sitting back down on his chair next to her
"yeah probably… oh did I tell you about Monroe and Rosalee? he asked her to marry him last night and she said yes!"she said grabbing her phone so that she could show him the picture of the ring that she had helped Monroe pick out, she flicked through till she found the picture of the ring still in the box
" seriously? oh wow well good for them, they deserve to be happy and weirdly enough they do make a good couple" he said taking the phone off of her to get a better look of the ring, he accidentally flicked the screen onto the next picture which just happened to be one of her wearing the ring. Nick smiled at how good it looked on her before swiping it back before she could realise that he had seen it
" yeah I can't think anyone better to be my sister in law than Rosalee who is pretty much like my sister already, this just means that Monroe can't avoid telling our parents about her now" she said knowing that they would permanently disown both of them if they didn't tell their parents about his wedding or any big event in their lives like that
"wait they don't know about her? they've been dating for more than a year already?…. Have you told them about me?" he asked as it suddenly occurred them that they had never really discussed him meeting her parents before, every time he had brought the subject up she quickly changed it or distracted him one way or another
"they know they're dating but not much more than that but trust me Monroe is doing the right thing by not telling them. My parents are old fashioned in their view on well just about everything including dating and marriage" she said thinking that was the best way to describe how her parents were in terms of their views inter species marriages, she knew what they're reactions were going to be at the news of Monroe marrying a Fuchsbau without her adding the fact she was dating a Grimm
"what's their views on Grimms?" he asked picking up on the hidden meaning in her response, he also noticed that once again that she had avoided talking about him and her parents. He could that there was something she wasn't telling him about her parents
" completely different from mine, Nick you'll meet them when I feel like the times right because I'd rather my boyfriend and dad didn't kill each other at my brother's wedding…. talking about parents, we're not heard anything from your mom for a while?" she said switching the conversation smoothly as she begins to type the different numbers into the computer before going on to her emails again, she gave him a long stare as she took a sip from her coffee cup hoping that he would cave soon
" nice transition there and I think when it comes to my mom she just gets in touch when she can…. wait are you avoiding doing taxes?" he said noticing that she had really done anything for a while, he knew that she was one of the best procrastinators there was since she was good at distracting him before he even knew it
"always but I was thinking that maybe I should communicate with her on my own? and you know not mention the fact I'm wesen to her" she said trying to lighten the idea with a joke as he turned to look her with a serious look, however just as he was about to reply his phone began to ring
" hold that thought…. Hank…aw thats bad, where?…. right ok I'll meet you at the prescient" he said before hanging up, although rather than hurrying to gather his things like he usually did he simple stood and stared at his phone as he tried to digest the news that he had just heard
" what's wrong?" Mia asked as she turned around in her chair to see him acting anything but normal for him, she could tell that whatever this case was it was bad one which usually meant dangerous and wesen related
"someone killed a highway patrol officer, I've got to get out there… listen if you want to send a message to my mom then feel free but do me a favour and don't get your hopes high? we can't be surprised if she doesn't answer" he said reminding himself that his mom was different from the woman he remembered from his childhood since she had been able to go years without contacting him, he figured that he was low on her list of priorities
" ok but you'll be surprised when she does, be careful out there ok? you don't know what you're dealing with yet" she said before standing on her tiptoes to kiss him since she was reduced to her normal 5'1 height and she wasn't her high heels which usually made the height difference less noticeable, she then wrapped her arms tight around his neck to give him a hug.
Once Nick left, Mia realised that there was no pointing doing the taxes without him so she sat down in front of her laptop as she began type a message to Nick's mom first explaining who she was before then asking the more important questions before sending the email off to the bheader. Mia then grabbed her green hoodie and her black leather biker jacker along with her keys and phone as she decided to head to Monroe's place to personally congratulate him on his engagement. She knew that they were going to have tell their parents about the engagement and the fact that she was dating someone but she knew that with that came the possibility that everything would begin to crumple and reality she wasn't sure she was ready for that to happened yet. Although she knew that if Nick's mom found out about them she would most likely attempt to behead her. After a while Mia headed home where she quickly logged onto the mac to check her email when she realised that she had new message from Nick's mom, she quickly began to read it as well as the hidden meanings within it. Once she was finished reading it for the fifth time she began to trace the ip address to find out where she was when she sent Mia the email then she began to figure out where she would be going to next. When Nick came home later he once again found a over caffeinated Mia bouncing around the house, as soon as she heard him come in she headed into the kitchen to grab him a beer from the fridge before she told him everything she had found out about his mom since that morning.
"hey so I got a reply from your mom and traced her ip address to here on the greek border but she's not there anymore because she's heading north, do you think that you could take a look at it for me?" she asked as she showed the map that had been highlighted to show his mom's movement as she handed him over the beer that she had gotten for him as she took a swig from her own
" It seems like you're doing a pretty good job all by yourself" he said giving her a smile as he sat on the chair in front of the computer as his eyes began to skim over the email, he tapped his knee gently gesturing for Mia to sit on his knee so thats what she did
"no, I meant at the actual email since theres more to it than meets the eye" she said knowing that were certain parts of it that would make more sense to him than her like the codenames and hidden means
"Hi Mia its nice to finally meet you of sorts, I've heard lots about you. Tell N…N…that would be me. Money not spent, been deposited for safe keeping" he said as it suddenly dawned on him that N would stand for Nick, although he turned to Mia who gave him that said it was a little obvious as he readthe rest of the email out as he tried to work out what his mom really meant
" I figured that she was talking about those coins you told me about right?" she asked remembering that he had told her about the coins when he was telling the story about how his dad had died and how his mom had faked her death while they were laying in bed one night
"yeah that means she didn't make it to wherever she was headed to but she's hidden them somewhere, hopefully safe. weather too hot now" he said trying to decipher the rest of the email, he was thankful that Mia seemed more interested in this kind of thing than not because in a way he had experience the Grimm lifestyle in both ways. one where it wasn't fully accepted and one where it was almost embraced
"that probably means someone is after her and the coins but who?" she asked hating the fact that his mom could be in danger and there was no way of helping her from where they were, especially if she was keeping information from them or hiding it in messages and codes
"I don't know, she's made lots of enemies over the years. Returning north, to find L" he said trying to work out what she was meaning, he knew that she had more enemies that he could count on since that was the reason that people were after her and his dad when he was younger
"yeah that part didn't make any sense to me, who's L?" she asked taking a swig from her beer, she had feeling that she might know what L stood for but knew that it could be anything like a person they both knew or place that held special memory for them so she figured that it was better to ask him
"Im thinking its probably the Laufer, I mean its the only thing that makes any sense to me" he said watching as she gave him a look of surprised when he mention the laufer, she knew that his mom was one of the big Grimms that she was always warned about but she never expected his mom to be working with the big leagues
"you mean the resistence, the groups of deluded people who actually think that they can unite against the royals. Im just saying as someone who used to be a part of that world, its not an easy thing to do" she said slightly showing her views on the whole laufer vs verrat debate that often went on, she knew where one used their intelligence where as the other used brute force and violence
" honestly I don't know that much about them, I mean I'm just getting caught up with everything and out of the two of us wesen related stuff is more your thing since you were brought up with it" he said knowing that she had more insight into it all than he did since his mom and aunt both hidden the fact that he was a Grimm, although he wished that they would have told them so that he would have been more prepared when it all happened
" yeah well I had an interesting childhood as you well know, anyway keeping going" she said resting her head on his shoulder as she gestured to the computer knowing that there was still something left that he hadn't read yet
"safer for N to communicate through you. Do not respond to this as I am in an unsecured location. M….. I don't think this is a good idea" he said sitting back on the chair as she moved around on his knee so that she could see his face better, he could tell that she was about to argue with him on this point
"why not? this is a way, maybe the only way that we can keep both of you safe Nick" she said getting for his knee suddenly feeling the need to get up and move around as she felt her frustration begin to build as he insisted on trying to make her the damsel in distress which she refused to be
" because it will mean that you're placed right bang in the middle of this mess where its not safe" he said wondering why she insisted to always be surrounded by danger and life threatening situations like she always was, it was how they had met so he knew that she had no regard about her own safety
"you realise that Im already in the middle of this right? by being with you, I'm in the middle and by sending that email to her I put myself in the middle. Thats not even mentioning the fact that being born I am always in the middle of some kind of wesen drama" she said annoyed that they were having this conversation once again, she hated that he felt that he always had to protect her since he thought of being innocent and vulnerable.
"fine but promise that you will be careful with this kind of thing, if the wrong person finds out about this then it could lead to…" he said not wanting to finish the end of that sentence since it meant thinking about her being hurt by the bad guys in some form, she turned to him and gave him a sweet smile
" don't worry about me, I'll be fine and I can take care of myself" she said as she bent down to kiss him since she figured that when he was worrying about her the best way to convince him that she would be okay was to remind her that she was still there. Just them her phone began to ring to signal that someone was calling her, she decided to ignore it as Nick deepened the kiss as she sat back down on his lap
" I think someone is really trying to get a hold of you…. It might be Monroe… or Rosalee with wedding things" he said knowing that whoever was had been trying to get for the last five minutes and were probably not going to stop anytime soon
" fine… Hey mom whats up?…. you're what?… wait tomorrow, I thought you guys were going to wait till we could come to you… the whole weekend, really?…great I'll see you then I guess" she said with a fake smile as she felt her body tense as her began to panic and think of ways to find a way of avoiding Nick meeting them or from them actually seeing her while they were in Portland
" whats going on?" he asked wondering what was going on through her head as she drank the last of beer and then headed into the kitchen as she grabbed a bottle of wine and a wine glass before pouring herself a large glass of wine, he could tell that something was going on with her to make react like this. He had never seen her look so unhinged and nerve wracked
"that was my mom calling to tell me that they are just so excited that about Monroe's wedding that they are coming to visit for the whole weekend!" she said in panicked voice as she tried to wrap her head around the fact that they were going to be in Portland this time tomorrow, she knew everything was going to fall apart and soon
"ok I mean thats a good thing right? you haven't seen them since you moved here so maybe this will good for you" he said trying to calm her down as she started to shake her, she knew how parents could be and that she knew that weren't going to like their children's choice of partner. Then it wouldn't be long before they started to call them out on their life decisions.
"no I know them Nick, I mean I love my parents I do but they are stubborn and old fashioned like victorian era old fashioned. And they can't meet you because I'm scared that one of you are going to kill the other, I'm betting on my dad killing you" she said after talking another big gulp from her wine class as she began to work out what she needed to do between now and when they arrived tomorrow, she was going to have to go that dinner with Monroe and Rosalee tomorrow night with her parents
" Mia, stop! you're beyond panicking ok? so I won't get to meet them this time but I am going to meet them before the wedding and it will work out like it always does" he said taking the glass out of her hand and out of her reach as he pulled her close to him, he could feel her begin to relax against him
"I can't not panic about this, hopefully they will so interested in Rosalee being a Fuchsbau that they don't ask about me and you, which is an awful thing to say" she said as she buried herself in Nicks arms as he wrapped them tighter around her, he wondered what happened between her and her parents to make her react like this
The next morning Mia decided against wearing her usual clothes and went something that she felt her mom would approve more of, she wore a beige dress with pink and orange sailboat. She also wore orange heels, an orange bag, an orange scarf and a beige coat. Mia decided to leave her hair natural wavy but ran her hands through it with a frizz control product then braided the front of her hair, her eye makeup was smokey pink and her lips were bright pink. She made sure to wear her infinity necklace with the m that her parents got her when she was younger as well as the wolf necklace that Nick gave her for christmas with the rest of her jewellery. All day while at work Mia had been stressing out about her parents arrive, she tried to distract herself by being busy with marking and essays that she gave to her classes that day. Once school ended she quickly got into her car and began drive to Monroe's house where her car started to break down halfway there, she got up to check that the issue was as Monroe had taught how to fix most car related problem. When she realised that there was no way she going to fix it on her own she called a toll and Nick to ask if he could pick her to take her to Monroe's to which he agreed to since he hated the thought of her out there alone in the dark and so that he could mock her and her old car. They eventually arrived at Monroe's house to see Rosalee drive away
"Rosalee-… Oh Nick, crap! Mia, why did you bring Nick with you?"he said with his teeth clenched at the end as he tried to think how bad things had gotten just by him opening the door, he began to look between his parents and Nick knowing that if they found out what he was then everything would hit the fan a lot sooner than they thought
" I just saw Rosalee drive away, you alright in here?" Nick asked wanting to make sure that everything was okay before getting to why he was there with her, he began to wonder why he had said it like that when they had been friends with him a lot long he had been dating her
" wait Nick? As Mia's boyfriend Nick? I guess we're getting to meet both of your partners tonight after all, lets hope this one is a Fuchsbau too" their dad said giving a look that told her that it was her turn to go under the spotlight where her relationship was closely examined, she soon figured out what had happened before she got there
" Rosalee left because of you two didn't she? seriously? you're still against the whole mixed marriage thing, why don't you go just now and just sleep on it " Mia said gently asking them to leave before they could find out what Nick was or say anything else to upset Monroe
" if we go, we are never coming back" he warned Monroe, hoping that it would shoe him he was serious about all of this and hopefully force him into picking them over Rosalee but based on the looks on both of their faces it was having the negative effect
" its fine with me dad and I'm pretty sure Mia would agree with me" Monroe said knowing that she loved Rosalee like a sisier already and wouldn't just leave her behind because her parents told her too, in fact she was probably likely to do the opposite of what they told her to do
"he's right, I do agree with him because Rosalee is amazing and they are so meant to be so if you can't get over the fact that she's a Fuchsbau then its your loss" she said trying to make them see what they would losing if they decided not to accept her into their family like they had as she watched her mom beginning to cry as the realisation of her words began to set in
" enough, we're done. they needs to figure out where they're loyalities lie who he is…a Grimm!" their dad said as he began to woga as soon as he did he was able to see Nick's eyes and see that he was a grimm, he did the first thing he could think of and began to attack him while their mom began to woga and went to attack too
" No dad stop! hey not in my house! Mom, no listen Nick is a friend and Mia's boyfriend" Monroe said as he tried to stop his mom from getting involved in the fight that beginning to heat up between Nick and their dad while Mia was in the middle trying to stop them from hurting the other
" DAD! stop this, I love Nick ok? so you can't hurt him… oh my god Nick, seriously you just hit my…. DAD!" Mia said forced to watch as her dad and Nick fought against each other before they broke free which was when they started to throw punches, Nick thrown the first such by hitting her dad in the jaw and just as she was giving him into trouble her dad recover enough to punch Nick just below his eye. Mia went to where Nick was to check that he was okay as she gave her dad a look
" a friend? and your boyfriend?" their dad asked clearly confused by this new development while Monroe placed himself in between his parents and Nick who was still being checked out by Mia, when Mia was finished she took a hold of Nick's hand since she felt that she need to make kind of contact with him to calm her self down. He was the closest thing she had to an anchor
"what the hell is going here? Mia, are you ok?" he asked first to everyone before lowering his voice so that he could direct the last question to just Mia as he cupped her face in his hand to make sure that she wasn't harmed in any way, she closed her eyes and leaned into his small embrace as she nodded
" you get the hell away from my daughter right now! You don't touch her like that ever!" her dad said snapping her out of the briefly moment of security as he tried to walk forward to throw Nick away from her but Monroe pushed him back to make sure that he didn't get anywhere near them
" dad stop this please…. Nick these are parents and this is my boyfriend who I love by the way" she said trying to keep control of her emotions as she felt her eyes fill with tears as she asked him to stop trying to kill her boyfriend. She was suddenly having flashbacks to her prom where her dad tried to kill her prom date with his claws for pinning her flower to close to her chest
" he's a grimm?!" their mom said to her, trying to see how she could ever over look the fact that his ascenders were the rest why most her family of their family had died over the years and that they made it their lives mission to kill their kind
"You're dating a grimm? and you knew about this but still let your little sister get involved with him?" Bart said see if he understood everything, the only comfort Monroe could take all of this was that their parents had completely forgot that he was marrying a Fuchsbau
"I am so sorry, can I say that first I do really really love you daughter and second I really didn't want to hit you…. although they did just try to kill me" he said to Mia and Monroe as he realised that the first time he met his girlfriend parents and her dad actually tried to kill him, he figured there was a first time for everything
"Let me try and understand something here. You're both Blutbaden, I'm Blutbaden, your mother's Blutbaden, He's a *Grimm*!" he told them trying to make them see that he was the enemy in all of this and not them, he hated the thought that she was involved with a grimm not to mention the act that she was now living with him too
" we can explain everything, I promise" Mia said gently to them, knowing that the first thing that she would tell them was that he was different from the stories they told them around the campfire during their family camping trips in the summer before she left for the council
" and you let him into your house?" he said to Monroe as if Mia hadn't spoken to him as she gave Nick an eye roll and a slightly fed up look that her dad was now pretending that she wasn't there just because she fell in love with the wrong guy
" didn't you hear anything that we just said? Nick is my friend and Mia's boyfriend" he said trying to make them listen and understand what they were saying, as he gestured to Mia and Nick who was gently rubbing her back since he could tell that was all taking its toll on her
" if its not bad enough that our son is marrying a Fuchsbau but now our daughter is dating a Grimm" he said as his began to show signs of woga out of anger of the whole thing, they had no idea how much disgrace they had brought onto their family
" hey thats not happening, not in my house" Monroe said warning his dad to not start anything in his house as he gave Mia a quick glance to check how she was dealing with everything and noticed that she was barely holding on
" well maybe your little grimm friend would like to take it outside" their dad said to Nick as Nick gave him a look that told him to bring it on, he knew that he couldn't show this guy any weakness but he also knew that he couldn't fight for Mia'd sake since she might not like him beating her dad up
" No, you do not want to take this outside. Because he'll kill you ok? I've seen it happen" Monroe said warning his dad that letting his anger get the better of him was not the right move to make right now, especially since it would mean hurting Mia indirectly as hurting Nick would meaning hurting her
"you've hunted with a Grimm? you too Emilia?" their mom asked as she removed her hand from her mouth from shock with all of this information, she thought the situation was bad enough before Nick's sudden arrival but now it seemed so much worse now that they knew everything
" Nick doesn't hunt like most Grimms do, he doesn't go out of his way to find people like us and hurt them" she said finally feeling the need to stick up for him, she knew that they had this view of him already in their heads no matter how wrong or inaccurate it was
" yeah he's a cop and we just help out with some of his cases that involve wesen" Monroe said backing up as she tried to explain how they helped Nick out, their parents still didn't get the fact that they didn't hunt anymore since it wasn't part of the new life style
" Alice,we're leaving" Bart said pointing to the door as Nick walked back towards the stairs still holing Mia's hand, he suddenly felt like this whole thing was his fault as he looked at Mia who seemed to in a state of distress over it all. He knew that once they were alone that she let all her feelings go and begin to cry while he held her
" I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cause any problems here" Nick said feeling that he had apologise for coming in and ruining what he only could image had been an argument between them and their parents if Rosalee's speeding car had showed him anything
" its a little late for that" their mom said as she grabbed her things while Bart stood at the door waiting for her as Mia gave him a long and meaningful look although he refused to look at her in the eye, he had decided to pretend that she wasn't in the room anymore
"please just-" Nick said feeling like he had to give it another go with her parents for Mia's sake since he knew that this was killing her inside, in the past all of his old girlfriends's parents had loved him so he figured that their dislike for him came from the fact he was a Grimm
" why don't you just shut up! I don't know what the hell is going through your head but deep down the girl I raised knows that this thing between you two is wrong" Bart said as he pointed to Nick while getting closer to him, however Mia decided to place herself in between Nick and her dad in the small gap that they had created, she was glad that her heels gave that little more height so that they would be able to see her more
" I'm still that girl but the thing is you can't be surprised that I turned out the way I did after you allowed those people to train to be a killer, that girl learned to see everything and not just what people want her to see" she said trying to remain strong as she stood up her dad, she knew it was a low below to bring up the council and what they expected to her to do but she also knew that it was true
" I don't know who you are anymore, either of you" she said looking at both her children before following their father out the door, she gave Mia a long hard look as she looked between her and Nick as if trying to make sense it all or trying to find the reason why she was doing this to their family
" well that could have went better right? but hey look on the bright side at they know everything so I guess its better to disown us now rather than later" Monroe said before realising that probably wasn't the right thing to say in front of Mia as he turned around to see her close her eyes as she squeezed her tears out as they began to make a trail down her cheeks
" I would have preferred it if they didn't disown at all but you take what get, why cant they just respect our decisions? or see past what they are? I.. I… I don't" she said as she began to break down as Nick pulled into her close to him as she began to cry into his shoulder
" I forgot to ask when you arrived but why were you late and show up with Nick? " he asked him since he knew that Mia had told him she would be there for the whole thing and not bring Nick to avoid everything that had just happened
" Mia's car broke down so I picked her up and drove her here, we didn't think that they would be here yet. I'm guessing you need to go and find Rosalee, why don't we leave you to it " he said realising that Monroe needed to find Rosalee to say sorry to her for whatever had happened and he knew that he needed to get Mia home to properly comfort her
"yeah I do… Mia we'll make this better, I don't know how but we will I promise you little sis" he said wrapping his arms around her as he stroked her hair before she pulled back and took Nick's outstretched hand as he was waiting for her to say goodbye before going back to him
That morning Nick woke to find an empty bed so he decided to get ready to quick before heading downstairs to see where Mia was, he found an already dressed and wide Mia by the computer with her box of council related wesen information open along with a newly made folder of information. Mia wore a light pink blouse that draped around her waist but shoed off her figure and chest perfectly, beige pants, light pink pumps that added to her height. She left her hair naturally wavy but placed a simple rope braid at the front of her then kept int place with three classic clips that were hiding in the midst of her hair, her eye makeup was softly smokey and her lips were a natural pink glossy colour. Mia found it hard to sleep after everything had happened last night so she figured that she would make good use of her time and do research on Nick's scalping case that he had told her about on the drive hime last night to distract her. As soon as she seen Nick she jumped up and followed him into the kitchen with her folder with information as he poured a cup of coffee for them both, although he sensed from the half empty pot that she had already had plenty of coffee without him.
" it looks like you've been busy not sleeping" he said giving her a stern look since he could tell that she had paid special attention to the bag under her eyes and knew that she tended to drink coffee like it was tap water when something was bothering her
" yeah I tried to sleeping but every time I did dreamt that my dad had hunted you and killed you then mounted your head in his study like one of those dear head things" she said trying to act like it was nothing but every time she closed her she began to relive her dream all over again
" I'm sorry, I wish there was something that I could to make all this better. Maybe I could talk to your dad, although I've got a feeling that might make things worse rather than better" he said rubbing her shoulders as she gave a look that he was probably before getting an excited look on her face as if she just remembered to something
" yeah it would anyway, something kept bothering me about the whole scalping thing and I kept thinking that it sounded familiar so I dug out some of my council files. I found out there is a type of wesen that likes to scalp their victims who are always some kind of warrior like an solider or something" she said spreading out all of the different pieces of information onto the kitchen counter so that he could see it all
" ok so thats not terrifying at all, what else you got for me?" he said coming up behind so that he could see over her shoulder trying to read the information while also putting his coffee down so that he could wrap his arms around her waist
"well it kinda goes way back to where guys would scalp the people they killed on the battlefield and then they hang them on their bridals to show how big and bad they were, it all comes down the fact that more scalps you had you more fierce and more feared you were" she said showing him pictures she had of the wesens with their scalps that she had in her study notes for one of her test
" which makes sense with what we found in the trailer, me and Hank something that leads us to believe that this guy is making a coat out of the scalps that he's collected so far" he said as she suddenly become alarmed that he had never mentioned the fact that he might already be considering that the suspect might be wesen
" and this is didn't seem important enough to mention before? Nick listen to me, if this guy is what I think he is then you need to be careful because not only are you a cop but a grimm too" she said beginning to panic as she began to realise that this guy might be targeting Nick, she could tell he was about to make some small joke about it
" yeah I know I'll watch my hair" he said before she slammed her cup on the counter behind before turning to him and showing him that she was not messing around with him
" hey I'm not kidding here, this is what I think it is then he is going to be strong with very little weaknesses okay? so if this guy after then you need to watch your back" she said as her phone began to ring so she headed towards the dining room where she had left her things including her phone
" hey don't worry, I got this" he said giving her a smile of his that she knew she couldn't resist or stay mad at for too long, she often told him to stop smiling like that just so that she could stay mad at him
" hey Roe whats up?…. when?… yeah I'll come with you, can you pick me up?…thanks, I'll see you in a few" she said hanging up the phone before staring at it for a while as she thought about everything that she had to say to her parents
" was that Monroe? is everything okay?" Nick asked coming into the room worried that he hadn't heard a sound from her for a while, usually when she got off the phone she would update him with whatever it was then would begin to do whatever she needed to do
" yeah he's going over to my parents's hotel to talk to them, actually he's going over there to say goodbye to them since he's choosing Rosalee over them… and I said that I would go with him to do the same" she said still stunned with it all, although she began to snap out of it as she wrapped her beige scarf around her neck then put on her pink blazer, she fixed her hair so that it wasn't tucked into her scarf
" you don't have to do that for me, I mean I know that you love me so I don't need you to prove it to me" he said not wanting her to give up her parents for him, he knew what it was like to not have your parents in your life and it hurt when the bigger things happened
" no I know I don't have to but I want to because deep down I know that they are never going to accept what you are or that we're together so I'd rather cut them off now then later down the road where it might hurt more" she said trying to get handle on her emotions as she felt the tears begin to build, she knew that she was going to need her strength for what she needed to say to her parents
" ok but only if you're sure about this…. don't hesitant to come to the prescient if you need to or even want to" he said wanting to her to know that he was there for her as they heard a horn outside to signal that Monroe was waiting outside for her so Mia grabbed her beige bag before giving him a kiss on the cheek and headed outside to get Monroe
Monroe and Mia drove to the hotel in silence as they tried to collect their thoughts and put them in order as they tried to think what they were going to say to their parents as a last good bye, one thing Mia knew for certain was that she couldn't a repeat of last night. Finally they arrived at the hotel, Mia decided to leave her bag in the car since it was heavy due to having all of her work things for that day in it, she gave herself one last check to make sure she looked strong and well put together since she felt like anything but. Monroe knocked on the door as Mia held her breath half hoping that her parents wouldn't answer, however two seconds later her mom threw the door open and welcomed them inside. Mia could tell that her dad had clearly not calmed down from last night like she had hoped, although she have learned by now that hope breeds eternal misery
"Roe I want to go first since my thing is probably worse then your thing, I should have told you about Nick being a grimm but you need to know that he's different from other grimm including his mom. He doesn't kill innocents, wesen or human" she said as her dad began to shake his head at her as if she was being stupid or living blissful ignorance
" is that what he told you? come on Emilia you're smarter than that, I mean is this why you left the council?" he said bring the one thing that made her anger really fast, Monroe knew that she was about erupt at any moment if he didn't stop her
" oh are we going there? fine you know why I left the council I didn't want to be there in the first place, in fact I wanted nothing to do with them. All I wanted was my best friend back… we're going way off track, the council and Nick have nothing to do each other" she said gesturing to Monroe that he should go now because there was no way that she was going to convince them that Nick was a good guy
" Mia's right, we should have told you about Rosalee and Nick sooner and in our defence we thought we had time but in the end it shouldn't matter what they are" he said coming to stand with her so that they were showing an united front against them, he could that his dad was having none of it
" Mixed marriages never work out, there is reasons we stick to these rules." he said as Mia scoffed at the way he wasn't see anything other than what he believed, he wasn't even considering that despite what they were Rosalee and Nick might actually be nice people
"Yeah. Ignorance and bigotry…. oh and fear of the unknown like mixed marriages and Grimm" he told his dad knowing there nothing more to it than that, however they both noticed they had hit a nerve when their dad's eye became blutbaden red. Mia felt like getting one of the spray bottle that was used for training dogs and spray him with it till he calmed down
"there is a reason why we fear these things, because that fear keeps us alive. And I can't believe you're both still doing this vegetarian crap. You know that was your influence on him right?" he said to Mia since she was the one who went on the vegetarian way of life first then Monroe converted to it when things got worse for him
" yeah dad I know that I helped him when Monroe was in a low point in his life where he was scared he was going to hurt an innocent. For me its a preventive measure from becoming out of control" she said trying to explain something that she had told over and over again over the years yet he never seemed to understand why they did what they did in order to live the life they wanted
"Why don't you just wear a sign saying you're ashamed of who you are?" he told them knowing that he would have shamed them out of their community if it was anyone else, they turned the back on what they were taught about the blutbaden way of life and their traditions
"dad I'm not ashamed of who I am, I just don't want to kill in order to survive. And who I am has nothing to do with Nick, he doesn't influence that" Mia said feeling as though they were going around and around in circle but still ended up at the same spot without much progress
"Oh, yeah I'm sure he doesn't , I mean I saw how proud you were to be blutbaden when you standing holding hands with your Grimm….I can't believe you two!" he said raising his voice as he scoffed, Monroe took a step forward so that he was placing himself in between Mia and their father as his protective instincts kicked in
" Mia's right, Nick is different." Monroe said fed up saying the same thing again and again in the hopes his dad might get it eventually, they knew that they going to have to give up trying soon
"Oh, he's a vegetarian too?" he said now mocking them as Mia stepped forwards towards their dad to be stopped by Monroe's outstretched arm as their eyes shifted to blutbaden red in the annoyance that their father was causing them
" I'm done… I'm done trying to make you understand me and the things I've done, all I've ever wanted was for you guys to just be my parents and if you can't get over Nick being a grimm then fine but as far I'm considered I have no parents" she said in a low and defeated voice as her mom began to sob as she placed her hand on her mouth to stop herself
" you would really choose that Grimm over your own parents? Because I am telling you that if you walk out of that door and choose him then you're dead to me" her dad asked her as she tried not to let any of it effect her, in that moment she wanted nothing more than to run to Nick and lose herself in his arms as she listened to his heartbreak as she pressed her ear to his chest
" in a heartbeat…. Monroe, I'll wait downstairs for you by the car" she said before walking outside of the room where she finally let the tears fall down her cheeks as she heard Monroe tell them that he was going to marry Rosalee with or without their approval, she could hear that he was beginning to get emotional too.
Mia decided to phone in sick into work since she couldn't image focusing on work after everything that had happened so she got Monroe to drive her back home where she simply left her things by the door and took off her shoes before grabbing her family photo album and a blanket to cover herself with as she flicked through the album. After a while Mia decided to head up stairs where she lay down on the bed trying to distract herself by reading her latest book but soon she found that she was more exhausted than she thought as she fell asleep while reading. Once Nick and Monroe dealt with the latest wesen case that involved Caccia Morta with the help of Bart, Monroe filled him on everything that happened that morning between her and their parents since he knew it had effected her more than she would admit. As soon as Nick was finished with all the small details of work he headed a dark and almost eerily quiet house, he began to worry when he didn't see Mia on the couch like she usually was so he decided to check upstair where he found her curled up in a ball on the bed where her mess curls had spilled onto her face. He lay next to her where he decided to sweep the hair out of her eyes gently, just then she began to open her eyes thats seemed so heavily. He could that she had been crying since her eyes were slightly pink and puffy
" hey how are you doing? Monroe told me what happened between you and your dad" he said as they sat up as Nick rested his back on the headboard of the bed while Mia sat up enough to lay her head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around her
" I'm… I don't know how I am but I can tell you that I don't regret picking you over him, I just wish that it didn't end like it did you know… that he didn't say that" she said knowing that they were too hot headed for their own good sometimes but that they had meant every word that they had said in the heat of the moment or at least she had
" I'm sorry babe….although I should tell you that your dad turned up while me and Monroe were dealing with the Caccia Morta that were after us, he went back to Monroe's house to get to know Rosalee better" he said know that despite the fact that this was going to kill her to hear he had to tell her otherwise she would hear it from someone else which would only make it worse
"great so its only me he's disowning, you know before the council and everything me and my dad used to be really close. He couldn't even go to the supermarket without me wanting to tag along, how did everything get so messed up?" she said cuddling further into him as she tried block everything out, he knew sometimes emotions were too much for her to handle
" life I guess, I mean we all have fair share of screwed up families I know I do" he said thinking about how his mom had given him away to his aunt to look after him so that she could fake her death while he mourned the death of both parents only to learn the truth years later
" I guess its just hard to think that he'll never do the things that dads do for their daughters like walk them down the aisle or get to meet his grandchild for the first time…. not that I'm pregnant or want o get married right now but still" she said ranting a little as she suddenly thought that it sounded that she wanted all of that right now and then
" I know, hey you never know what could happen in the future he might come around to the idea of having a grimm in the family" he said knowing that there was no way either of them were willingly going to leave the other any time soon, he could see a real future with Mia one where neither of them had to hide who they were from the other
" yeah maybe… when Bauerschwein learn how to fly on their own" she said knowing that that was more likely than her dad changing his mind about her and Nick being together or him welcoming a grimm into the family
