hey guys so here is part two of the previous chapter so hopefully this is just as good, I've added a few details and scenes that I felt might be better for Mia and the story. chapter 20: eavesdrop
After Nick and his mom decided to head over to Renard's place to see of Adalind went there with the baby, Mia decided to grab her things and get into her car to drive over to Monroe and Rosalee's place to explain everything that had just happened including her meeting Nick's mom for the first time. She knew that Nick would eventually ask for their help with it all so she figured that it was best to clue them to avoid wasting time, plus she needed to talk to someone who get how it felt to have your boyfriend's mom want to kill you when she realised what you were. When Monroe opened the door to reveal a slightly freaked out but eerily calm Mia he knew straight away that something was wrong, even when they were growing up she was never this calm which he actually preferred since he didn't know how to help when she was this calm. Rosalee ushered her into the living room and forced her to sit down as she headed into the kitchen to make them all some tea while Monroe tried to get Mia to tell what was going on, however she waited till Rosalee was back to them the whole story. Once she started to tell them about the sudden appearance of Adalind with the royal baby and Nick's mom, she suddenly felt so much better as if a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders
" obviously DeGroot failed to mention that I was wesen, although I'm not sure why she didn't work it out since all the trainees are were… its whatever but I just needed to leave the house" she said feeling bad that she had disturbed when they had obviously settled down for the night as they were both dressed for bed
"its fine really, I still can't believe you willingly woged in front a very dangerous grimm like that" Monroe said taking a sip of his tea as he gave his sister a look that told her that she was being reckless which wasn't something unusual for her at this point in her life
"it was the only thing I could think of to get Adalind to trust me enough to help her with the baby, the pros outweighed the cons at that point" she said knowing that she would do it again if she had to because in the end the baby was going to be ok since they got her dry in time
" yeah but Kelly Burkhardt is nothing like her son when it comes to wesen, the one time we did meet her she tried to kill us" Rosalee said trying to make her see that she still had to be careful when she around Kelly despite the fact that she was Nick's mom or not, just then Mia's phone went to signal that Nick was calling her
" Hey babe… no I'm fine really…why am I sensing something went wrong when you went to get Adalind and the baby?… yeah they're here with me… sure ok, you're speaker phone" she said after a brief talk with Nick who could sense that the night was beginning to take its toll on, she clicked the speaker button before she placed it on the table in front of her
"hey guys you remember Adalind?" he asked Rosalee and Monroe who were there when Juliette was put into a coma by her then helped him deal with the fall out of it, they said exchange a look between them that told each other he had just confirmed everything that Mia told them
" yeah Mia's already filled us in on everything already like how your mom's back and wanted to kill her so that's great" Monroe said a little sarcastic that Nick knew meant that they were going to talk later about him protecting his sister meant from his mom too
" and you forget to mention that your mom killed Adalind's mom! No wonder she ran like she did, she was probably worried that she was going to do it again" Mia said thinking it was all a little convenient that he withheld information that he knew that she would be upset about and would be a little reluctant to get involved with her if she knew everything that she had done in the past
" yeah but she doesn't know that and we kinda need to keep it that way if we want to keep her and her baby safe from the Royals" he said making it clear that no one was to mention it to her when they all met up again because he knew that whatever trust she had in him would disappear like her and the baby would
"and so just to be clear, she impaled herself with a shard of glass" Kelly said leaning towards the phone as they drove towards Monroe's house, she knew that Mia's opinion of her wasn't that high since she had went to attack her when she found out about her being blutbaden but this was still the woman that her son loved
"oh you're on the phone too, kinda feels like the sorta thing you have mentioned Nick" Mia said getting up from her place on the couch, she knew that she was being unfair to him by being mad at him for everything that had happened so fat that night but it was easier than to deal with it and face the fact the night clearly wasn't over yet
"oh hi, long time no see-" Rosalee began to say as she figured it was probably better to be nice to Kelly than to be on her bade side since most wesen on her bad side ended up with no head, however Kelly soon interrupted her so that they could get down to business
" listen we're going to need to find a safe place for Adalind and the baby, it would only be for a couple of days till we could figure out our next move" she explained to me since Nick and her had already discussed keeping Adalind at their house since no one really knew that Monroe and Rosalee were involved with Nick or that Nick was involved with Adalind yet
"who's the baby father?" Rosalee asked wondering where he was if he was even still in the picture, Mia had told them that the baby's father was royal but not who he was or where he was since she didn't know those details yet. However they all knew that the baby having Royal blood through its veins was a big deal in itself
"its the captain!" he said knowing that they would get how shocking and stunning this new development was, he could practically see them all sitting up straighter as they tried to get their head around it all
" your captain?!" they all said at once as Mia rushed back to the phone, she was half hoping that she had missed heard him but she knew that it all made sense since the baby was half royal as was he but she also knew that there was a small possibility that the baby could someone else's since Adalind had been staying in Vienna for more than a year on and off
"yeah and he's coming with us too" he said as if it was no big deal, Mia could tell that he was half distracted by the road as he drove. She had a small smile as she thought that he had avoided telling her that he was driving because he knew that she would shout at him for driving and being on the phone
" wait just so I have all of this sorted in my head. Your captain, Adalind, her baby, your mom and you are all coming to stay with us" he said wondering where they all going to sleep since they only had two bedrooms and one couch
" no just Adalind and the baby… Mia, she asked if you could stay there with her since you're only one that she really trusts out of the three of us that were at the house. I stopped by at the house and grabbed you some stuff" he said knowing that she would have yes and wouldn't be mad that he had cut the middle man out and wasted time by making extra trips back and forth
"yeah thats fine and your mom can stay with you which probably better, you know keeping us to apart" she said in a small voice that she hoped Kelly wouldn't be able to hear but in a way she no longer cared whether or not she knew that her grimm ways bothered her, she couldn't help but think of all the people she had killed
" guys listen I wouldn't be asking you to do this if I had another choice, I'll explain everything that happened after I left the house when I get there ok? Mia, can you take me off speaker phone so we can talk?" he said knowing that he needed to do some damage control with her,he could sense that she was mad and he knew that it had something to do with whatever had happened tonight but he couldn't pinpoint what exactly
"yeah you're off speaker so say whatever it is you want to say, Nick….and before you ask I'm fine, just tired" she said since she figured he was going to ask if she was ok or why she was mad but the truth was that she wasn't mad, just exhausted and the more that happened the more tired she got both physically and mentally
" I know all of this has been a lot to deal with tonight and its probably taking its toll on you but I need you to hang in there a bit longer then everything can go back to just being the two of us ok? and don't forget I still need to finish asking you" he said before hanging up the phone and trying to avoid the look his mother was giving, she knew there was only question that would bring a smile like on someone's face
Once Mia got off the phone with Nick she decided to keep herself busy so that her mind didn't have time to stop and think about how everything was almost prefect when Nick started to ask whatever it was he was going to ask her, she didn't want to assume that he was going to ask THE question as she didn't want to get her hopes up. Although she still didn't know what her answer would be if it was THE, she knew that she loved Nick enough that she couldn't say no to him and still be honest with him since it would feel like a lie. However she couldn't say yes and still feel true to herself and who she was, she had always prized herself on being someone who knew she wanted and had always clean rules on how to handle things like this. Ever since she was 16 she decided that when it came to dating it always had to be something simple with no drama or mess, since that would draw unwanted attention to her and her new life. So this was all new to her, it was one of the longest and most meaningful relationships she had ever had which is why it meant so much to her. She began to set the guest bedroom up with clean sheets as well as a safe place for the baby to sleep in, she had said that she would take the couch since she didn't think she would get much sleep with everything that was going on in her head. Before she knew it Nick walked through the door with everyone else as Monroe and Rosalee stood at the door to greet them while Mia stayed in the living room away from everyone as she hugged her cup of coffee close to her.
" you aren't in here trying to avoid seeing me are you?" Kelly asked siting in the chair closest to Mia as she watch her begin to fold herself up a little as she folded her legs in a basket and placed a cushion on top of her legs where she balanced her cup
" no not really, I'm not a fan of crowds in a small space plus my head is kinda numb so…" she said hoping that she sense that she wasn't in the mood for fights or games or anything else she had in mind when she sat down
" yeah Reed, he was my husband and Nick's dad, used to get them a lot whenever I was dealing with a big wesen problem like now" she said trying to sympathise and relate to the woman that her son had fallen in love with, in the car he told her that she needed to get pass Mia being blutbaden and get to know her better for his sake
" I've been dealing with wesen problems my whole life whether it was the council dragging me into whatever mess they were and for last year I've been helping Nick with his, I should immune to it by now" she said waiting for her to make some smart comment about how she was the wesen problem in her son's life or that her headache would go away as she left Nick
" true but when you're are involved with a grimm like you and Reed then its more than the wesen drama, you worry about Nick which is how I know that you love him… I saw the way you looked at him tonight, it was the same way Reed would look at me before I went on a hunt" she said before realising that she had mentioned the fact that she had hunted people just like Mia as she gave her a bitter kind of look and took a sip of her coffee
" I know you aren't thrilled by the fact that I am blutbaden since you've spent your life hunting my kind down and beheading them but it works and I love him so much that it almost scares me" she said figuring that the best way to deal with Kelly was to be honest with her and who she was and how she felt about her son, hiding nothing
" you know there will be bigger and badder people just waiting to object to you two than me but as far as I am concerned you have nothing to about unless you do something to hurt him" Kelly said warning her that is she hurt Nick then she would mostly come to visit her with her axe or whatever she used to cut peoples heads off before heading to the kitchen to grab some coffee
Mia placed her coffee on the table in front her as she got up from her chair and headed into the hallway since everyone but Nick and Monroe were heading in her direction. As she walked into the hallway near the stairs she could hear them talking so she decided to stand by the door and wait for her cue.
" where's Mia?" Nick asked once they were alone in his office, Monroe could tell that he was worried about his sister and that she had a habit of pulling away from people when things became too much for or became too messy for her but he knew Nick was just finding out about this
" she's in the living room, she's been kinda quiet since you called but I wouldn't worry about it. Anyway it seems that we have bigger problems like why we're helping Adalind out?" he asked wondering after everything that she did to Renard and Julietter why they would be giving her and her baby protection and who they were protecting her from
" the Verrat are after the child and they will kill to get baby has some kind of power."Nick said not noticing that they now had company, Mia was leaning on the door frame hidden behind Monroe who's back was to her. Nike knew that with this kind of power meant that people were going to die before the bad guys got to them
"Yeah, Hexenbiest kind of powers." Monroe said knowing Hexenbiest were feared in the wesen community and were known for being bullies, just like blutbaden were known to be wild and ruthless sometimes although that didn't go for every blutbaden
" And from what I've seen... it's pretty impressive." he said knowing what his mom meant when she said that this baby's powers could either do great good or terrible bad things, he could tell that this baby was kind of person that could influence history but wasn't entirely sure which direction she would influence
" he's right Roe, I've seen it too and its more than your typical Hexenbiest powers. This baby is only ten days old and she has powers already, powers that should be way beyond her capabilities" she said starling both men with her sudden pretence as she reminded them that babies who are wesen shouldn't have the ability to woge or being able to use any of their powers till puberty
" Well, thank you very much for bringing her and the Chosen One over here. Its been a pleasure knowing you both" Monroe said sarcastically as he thought how bad things had just turned within a matter of seconds, he knew that Hexenbiest were to feared and for a very good reason
" You just got to keep them here till I can figure out what to do" he said knowing that he was a lot from all and that this was really his last choice, he watched as Mia looked down at the ground avoiding all eye contact with him as she placed a piece of her behind her ear
" Nick I need to know with Mia and Rosalee staying here, is it safe?" he asked knowing that he would do anything he had to protect his sister and fiancee from any kind of harm but he wasn't sure whether or not he could protect them from a newborn baby
"its pretty safe… do you mind giving me and Mia a minute alone?" Nick asked noticing that she hadn't moved from her spot at the door and how she closed herself off to them by making herself small, combined with the lack of heels she looked small and almost fragile as Monroe gave him a nod and gave Mia a small squeeze on the arm as he went pass her
" you should know that me and your mom talked it out so we're good now I guess" she said still not looking at him, she didn't know what was going with her and she knew it wasn't fair to Nick to act this way but she didn't know what else to do right now
" would you please just come here?…I don't know whats going on with you-" he said opening his arms to her as she walked towards him before he wrapped his arms around her tight and placed a small kiss on top of her head, he took as much comfort as he could from her touch and pretence. Mia interrupted him before he could go on
" I'm fine honestly, its just been a really long day and I'm tired. I'm pretty sure since you will be at home and I'll be here that I'm going to get any sleep" she said feeling herself get a little lighter and begin to feel better, it was then that she wished that she could bottle Nick up and take him with her when she needed him the most
"well the day after tomorrow is Sunday so we'll have the whole day to catch up and spend in bed if we want if its finished by then, also after all this I'm pretty the captain owes me so we could probably call in sick on Monday" he said as he pressed a kiss into her neck as she chuckled a little, she knew that they just had to get through all of this and survive it
Eventually everyone began to leave and head to the FBI agent's house to get some answers from him, the others began to head to bed leaving Mia in her make shift bed on couch. Mia now wore a white t-shirt, black and white fleece print pyjama pants, a red and white striped housecoat, her glasses and white slipper boots. She had simple left her hair in its messy waves and took off all of her make up. She had turned and tossed for an hour before finally deciding to just stay up so she began to make herself some tea as she sat in her bed on the couch sipping her tea and read her book. Adalind came downstairs with a very upset Diana, she failed to noticed Mia reading her book as she began to pace around the room as she tried to settle her, Mia placed her book on the table as Adalind her an apologetic look as it suddenly occurred to her that Mia might be actually be sleeping.
"I'm sorry I've tried everything but she just keeps crying" Adalind said feeling bad that she had gotten Mia up since it was bad that she was making her stay here away from Nick and her home,
" its okay really I wasn't sleeping, let see her… she has a little fever, its probably from being wet ealier combined with being exposed to the elements so soon after birth but I'm sure its nothing to worry about" she said trying to assure that she was ok, she knew that her fever would explain why she was so upset and unsettled
" you think she's sick?" Adalind asked worried that her newborn was already sick after everything they had been through so far, she knew it wasn't fair to put her through all of this but knew it was the only way for them to survive and live happy normal lives together
"I'm sure its nothing to serious, babies take a while to build their immune systems up before they are involved in things that she's been exposed to lately like a trek in the woods" she said trying to explain to her nicely that there was nothing to worry about but that she couldn't keeping going on like this without taking care of her and the baby, she could only image what was going on with her body after childbirth and no aftercare
" is that her? what is wrong with her?" Adalind asked a little scared as Diana's crying increased as the clocks began to act up as they all began to spin in different directions, Mia knew that Monroe was going to have a fit when he saw the state of his clock in the morning. She had noticed that they hadn't come down yet since they were scared of her and the baby, they figured that Mia could handle it as the child expert in the family since she had studied child development as part of her teaching degree
"I don't know, shah you're okay… can I hold her? there we go… hush little hexenbiest please don't say a word, Mia's going to buy you a mockingbird… " she said as Adalind handed her the baby as she began to bounce which allowed her to calm down a little, Mia began to sing gently as she knew that baby would become focused on her voice
" how did you do that?" Adalind asked wondering how she knew that Diana would respond to whatever it was she was doing, she did feel bad that someone else was able to comfort her baby when she couldn't but then again she was reminded what Kelly had told her about it all being a learning curve
" I guess it was right combination of bouncing and singing, it distracts her from whatever it was that was bothering her…plus she has a soft spot for Kelly right?" she said turning to where her boyfriend's mother was standing by the door out of sight as she waited to be noticed, Mia didn't bother to ask her how she got in since she knew that a woman like her had her ways to get things done
The next morning Mia got up and made everyone some coffee and breakfast since she knew that no one had really slept that well even after baby Diana settled down enough to fall asleep, she checked her phone to see that she had a text from Nick asking her to come back to the house to help him with setting things up for the play they had come with the night before. Mia dug through the bag that Nick bought for her and got changed into a pair of ripped grey jeans, a pink tank top, a grey watermelon t-shirt and a pair of black biker boots. She decided to leave her hair in a more controlled curly state than her normal style, she wore simple eye make up with a combination of eyeliner and mascara and wore natural pink lipsticks. She made her excuses to Monroe and Rosalee so that Adalind wouldn't get suspicions but promised her that she could call her if she needed to, she grabbed her things and got into her car that she had abandoned near Monroe's house the night before. As soon as Mia got home she was greeted with a steaming hot cup of coffee which she took gladly, she abandoned her things by the door as she headed over to where Nick had set up her laptop and the local newspaper at the table.
" so what are we doing? whats the plan?" she asked as she took a sip of third cup of coffee of the day as she took a seat in the chair at the table where the newspaper with car adverts were waiting for her she grabbed her glasses as she looked at the paper with her tired eyes
"well we needed to find a car for my mom who is about to be arrested for the murder of Adalind's mom and then the captain is going to take the baby to give it to the prince so that we can steal her back" he said as if it was most simplest plan in the world rather than what it was, she knew that taking the baby from Adalind to be raised in a more balanced way but that didn't make it any easier for her to deal with
" is that all? I mean while we're at why don't we rob a bank too, I'm pretty sure I could if an industrial drill online" she said taking another sip from her cup as she took a look at the requirements for the truck and cars they needed so that she could start circling ones that fitted what they needed for a quick getaway
" are you okay? I mean I know this is a lot and if there was another to do this without taking her away from her mom I would but I don't see another way" he said knowing that a child being ripped away from her parents would hit home for her with what happened between her and the council but he also knew what it felt to be raised by someone other than your mom since he was raised by his aunt when his mom supposedly died
" I know you would because we both know how that feels and I know that you would have avoided it if you could… I'm just tired, I barely slept last night which means I can drink all the coffee I want with a lecture" she said with a mocking smile that somewhat comforted him that she was still being her despite what he was asking her to do with him, she knew that he needed someone who spoke flute german since Monroe only a few words here and there
"I think I'll join you in that but I am cutting you off when you start bouncing off the walls" he said pressing a some kiss on top of her forehead as she leaned into his touch taking some comfort by his pretence, she knew that she would feel so much better when it was all and things began to go back to how they were with occasional wesen related case
" fair enough, I think I've found one here it's one owner" she said circling the car that she was talking about so that he would see which one it was before she handed him the newspaper, she knew that it was important that they find one soon
" no its a hundred and thirty thousand miles, we need something with 50k or less… heres one 2008, 4600 miles?" he said looking to details of the truck that he had found online trying to see if it fitted the requirements that they needed, he had thought that it would have been easier than this to find what they needed
" four by four?…great I'll on it like a car bonnet get it? never mind" she asked calmly as she tried to make a car related joke as she took the laptop off of him as his phone began to ring displaying Hank's name and face on the screen as Mia headed into the kitchen after giving Nick a small kiss
"…Hey babe, its go time. Hank just called me to let me know that the Royals are here so it won't be long before it all kicks off" he said bringing his now empty cup in the sink as he checked in with Mia to see where she was with the truck that he had found, he was glad that all of this would over soon
" ok just call me when you need me and I'll keep you updated with news of the truck" she said as she gave his hand a quick squeeze as he passed her on his way to gathering his things, he knew that time was of the essence since once it started there was no way of them slowing down enough for them to catch their breath
As soon as Mia had sorted everything out with the truck, she headed upstairs to the bedroom she shared with Nick so that she could change her tops into a grey tank top and grey pineapple t-shirt. She decided to braid her hair so that created a crown on top of her head so that it would help disguise her and would be out of the way during the hijacking, she also gathered the items that Nick suggested that she take with including her grey beanie hat, her sunglasses and black leather gloves as well as the Nick's spare gun that he kept in a drawer in the living room. She grabbed her black hooded bomber jacket as she got into the black with no plates to hide who they were, she knew that the royals would pick up on the fact that she was a female and may give them away but then again she was the only who could speak flute german out of them all. During the ride to the airport stripe Nick told Mia what they needed her to say as well as made sure that no one could see who she was by making sure that all of her hair was covered by her hat, he knew that he was risking a lot by getting her involved in all of this but he knew that she wouldn't have any other way. He always showed her how to use the gun enough to frighten the men that they were going to confront which is what they needed to do if they wanted to get the baby back with them.
"aus dem Fahrzeug! Aus dem Fahrzeug! auf den Boden! Umzug ( get out of the vehicle! get of the vehicle! down on the ground! Move!)" she said over and over again with the gun in her hand as she pointed her gun at Victor and baby Diana as they got out of the car, she tried to remember that they were doing this to help her and in fact her gun was pointed at him more than the baby
"geben Sie uns die Baby!… geben Sie uns die Baby! (give us the baby!… give us the baby!" she said trying to show that she wasn't messing around as she held her arm out to take the baby, in the car it was decided that Mia would be the one to take her since it would appear that she was the leader plus she had a bond with her. If there was every a baby that would recognise who she was it would be this baby
"You have no idea who you're dealing with" Victor said knowing that who ever this was would know more than their native language and would know how to speak english, he knew that whoever this was was a woman that he had never met before since the voice even in german was new to him
" denken Sie, die Resistenz sich interessiert? ( do you think the resistance cares?)" she said gesturing to her open arm again indicting that she still wanted the baby as Victor slowly considered his options as he finally gave Mia the baby, as soon as they had the baby they slowly began to back away into the limo that the royals had came in before speeding away
" we did it, how is she?" Nick asked as Mia gave him his gun back and began to take her gear off with one hand and the help of Nick as she check on how Diana was as Monroe and Kelly watched the young couple interact with the baby. It wasn't hard to image them with a child of their own
"she's fine, still asleep" she said loving that after everything that she had just been through Diana was still able to sleep right through it all, which almost made her glad since it meant that Diana had missed all the things that could scare her at such a young age
" well lets hope that she stays that way" he said as Mia lay her very tired head on his shoulder as she tired hard not to fall asleep on him which she knew may happen since she was so tired, she knew that once Kelly got on the road with the baby everything would over with since Renard was going to deal with Adalind
" yeah, you know we had to do this right" she said to Renard as she caught him watching her with his daughter as she cuddled closer to her in her sleep, he was painfully aware of everything that he was giving up by allowing her to be taken away from his and Adalind
" I hope you're right" he said still not totally sure that they were right by suggesting that he was giving his daughter her best chance in life by giving her up and he knew that Nick and Mia both had their doubts too due to the fact that they had both grew up without their parents being in their lives till much later
"why don't you hold her till we get to the truck?" she said as she handed Diana over to him since she figured that there was no harm in him spending his last few moments holding his daughter before she was taken away from him by the one thing that he had tried to kill once upon a time
