I am so sorry. I wanted to get this chapter out before school started. L Sadly it took me longer than I thought it would. Both me and my beta reader are really busy this semester. On the bright side this chapter is longer so that's good.

.

Rin's POV

.

"How did this stupid mission get so complicated?" I groaned as I looked around at my surroundings. I was in the room where I fought Bon. In the middle of the arena was a blue circle that I was standing on. To the right, of me in the far corner of the arena, was the Demon Core sitting on a small table. To the left of me, sitting on another table, was my sword still sheathed. I sighed and tried to leave the blue circle again. The result was the same from my previous attempts; a shock rushed through my body, and I was jolted back. I sighed and looked around for the organization leader. I found him standing outside the arena watching the demons set up.

"Hey, you!" I yelled. "What's up with this circle? Why can't I leave?" He turned and looked at me, amused.

"You are quite a loud prisoner," He said. "The circle I drew around you cannot be crossed by any demon. Don't worry, though; you'll be released soon enough." I glared at him and walked to the edge of the circle again. I put my hand slowly out and tried to move it over the circle. The shock rushed through my hand, and I pulled it back hissing.

"Did you think something different would happen this time?" he asked, smugly. I snarled at him and went back to the circle.

"What can I do to destroy it?" I thought slowly, putting my foot over it. I got shocked again. "Hmm, maybe if I tried jumping over it I could get through." I stepped back a little and ran towards the circle, jumping at the last moment. The shock that went through me was enormous. I was thrown back to the center of the circle. I coughed and dragged myself to my feet.

"You're not very bright are you?" He commented.

"Coming from the person who I've been fooling for months, that doesn't mean much," I snapped. His smirk fell, and he glared at me.

"Say what you like," He said. "It won't matter in a few minutes anyways." I sighed and sat down.

"I hope the others are alright," I thought moodily. "Hopefully they're in the same cell area as Yukio. He can get them out of there…" Then something dawned on me.

"I should have unlocked it!" I exclaimed, slapping my forehead. How could I have been so stupid? If I unlocked Yukio's cell he could get the others out and come get me!

"Unlocked what?" the organization leader demanded suspiciously. I ignored him.

"What were you yelling about?" he asked again. I smirked, enjoying his suspicion. It was short lived however as one of the cloaked figures came up to the leader.

"Sir, we're ready," the black cloaked figure said.

"Well, it doesn't matter what you meant," The leader said. "You won't be around much longer." He brought up his right arm, and the room fell silent. Then, one by one, the demons and cloaked people started beating drums. After all of them were in sync, a chant began.

"This doesn't look good," I thought as the Demon Core started floating and glowing. Red ribbons of light started coming from it. I eyed it and took a few steps back. The Demon Core started glowing red, then orange, then red again. As I watched it, the sound of chanting and drumbeats faded. My surroundings started to melt away. All I saw was the Demon Core. I took a step towards it and then another step. As I walked forward, I was barley aware of a black figure erasing the blue circle. I walked out of the circle and across the room. I wanted to hold it. I needed to hold it. As I approached the Demon Core, the red ribbons of light started intertwining around me. It wrapped around my arms, legs, and torso. I felt myself take a few steps forward but I was no longer in control. Not that I cared any more. I felt really tired. The ribbons felt like they were taking energy from me. As I walked back across the room towards my sword I started to sink into darkness….

.

Yukio's POV

.

I ran down the hall towards the sound of drums, the others in hot pursuit. As we got closer, I could also hear the sound of chanting.

"I hope it's not too late!" I thought. "Rin, hang in there!" I came out of the hall into a large room with an arena in the middle. I stopped short in horror at the sight in front of me.

"Oh, no!" I heard Shiemi gasp from next to me as the others came in. There, in the arena, was Rin walking slowly towards his sword which sat on a table on the other end. Around Rin were red ribbons connecting him to the Demon Core, which was floating above him. His eyes were empty, void of any emotions or feelings.

"He looks like a puppet," Renzo muttered. "What's going on?"

"The Demon Core is draining his power," I said.

"What do we do?" Konekomaru asked worriedly.

"We need to stop Rin before he unsheathes his sword," I said analyzing the problem in front of me. "Rin is still alive right now but if he unleashes his true power by unsheathing his sword, the Demon Core will absorb his power and his life force as well…Okay, I have a plan. Can you guys hold them off for me?"

"What?" Bon asked

"Can you hold them off?" I repeated. "Once we charge in, all those demons are going to attack us. I need to know if you can hold them off."

"We can't even deal with one demon much less a ton of them!" Konekomaru said.

"Try to fight the lesser ones. You don't really need to fight any of the dangerous ones," I said. "Just running around and dodging them will confuse them. Can you do that?"

"What are you going to do while we do that?" Izumo asked

"I'm going to go stop Rin," I told them "Once I get near him, the Demon Core is going to make him fight me. I don't have enough time to explain how the Demon Core works and how to defeat it, also I have a better chance of winning against Rin then you do. If there was any other way, I wouldn't be asking you to stall them."

"Oh," Bon said. "Well then, yeah, we can stall them."

"Good," I said, turning my attention back to the arena. Rin was now half way across the room. "We need to go, now!" I yelled as I jumped into the room and started running towards the arena. I could hear footsteps as the others followed me. As we ran, the demons that were hanging around the room saw us.

"Intruders!" one snarled. The others turned and charged towards us. The leader of the organization looked up in shock.

"How did they escape?" He yelled at one of the hooded figures next to him. "Never mind that, kill them!" The hooded figures all picked up weapons and came after us.

"I'm almost there!" I thought. Around me, I heard the others fighting. As I came to the edge of the arena, a huge demon landed in front of me, blocking my way. My hand instantly went to my gun before I stopped myself.

"I can't use any of my bullets yet," I thought as I tried to run around it. "I'll need everything I have for the battle with Rin." The demon swiped at me, and I slid under its arm and into the arena. Once I landed, I jumped up and shot at the Demon Core. It hit it, and Rin turned to me. He bent down and picked up a broken piece of a blade that was lying on the ground. I pointed the gun at him. We stared at each other for a moment, then Rin charged at me. I aimed my gun and shot at the red ribbons that were holding Rin. I managed to get two of them before Rin swung at me. I jumped back, but not before Rin hit my shoulder. I hissed and continued shooting at the ribbons. I needed to break them all so the Demon Core would let go of Rin.

"Yuki!" Shiemi cried from behind me. "We're losing! Please hurry!" I clenched my teeth and shot again at the ribbons. This time, however, the Demon Core moved my brother so the bullets hit him in the arm instead. Rin then jumped at me again. I backed up dodging his strikes.

"What should I do?" I thought as I kicked him in the stomach and jumped back. "I can't shoot at it anymore because it'll just use my brother as a shield. I have to think fast!" Rin charged forward, and I hopped back. My foot hit a rock and I tripped. Rin shot forward and knocked the gun out of my hand. I landed on the ground and my gun landed a few feet away from me.

"I'm out of options," I thought desperately, trying to think of a plan. Something popped into my mind. "That could work, but I only have one chance with it." Rin stepped forward and brought the blade back. I tensed as he thrust it forward. As it came towards me, I rolled to the left and kicked him hard in the shoulder. He lost hold of the blade and jolted back. Once the blade was out of his hand, I kicked his feet from under him and grabbed the blade. As he fell, I jumped up and sliced all the ribbons that were holding him. The Demon Core stopped glowing and fell to the ground. My brother groaned.

"Rin!" I yelled, dropping the blade and running to my brother's side. Rin's eyes slowly opened.

"What? Where am I? How did I get here? What's all that noise? Why does my arm hurt?" Rin babbled out in confusion. "Ugh and why do I feel so tired?" He noticed me and turned in my direction. "What are you doing here?" Then a look passed his face as he remembered what happened. "You escaped!"

"Yeah," I said, smiling back. "I should have told you to leave my cell unlocked. I'm glad to see you're alright." Rin gave me an amused smirk but then it started to fade.

"Your hand," He said noticing the slice where I grabbed the blade. "Your shoulder. What happened?"

"You were being controlled," I told him.

"You mean I did that?" Rin said looked really upset.

"Don't worry about it," I said. "Besides, you got hurt too." I pointed to his arm. He glanced down and gave a gasp of shock.

"You shot me!" He exclaimed. "That explains the pain." I nodded and looked up.

"I got Rin out of the Demon Core's control!" I called. "I can handle things from here! You guys should head back."

"What?" Bon exclaimed glancing down at us. "No way! You'll never make it back like that! You're all cut up!"

"Speak for yourself!" Rin said. "You look horrible." Bon, like the rest of them, was covered in slices and bruises where he got hit.

"They aren't too deep!" Renzo said, sliding down into the arena followed by Izumo and Konekomaru. "We can manage."

"Your cuts look pretty deep," Shiemi said, hopping down with Bon. "I need to treat them as soon as possible. Rin's injuries aren't ever healing fast like they usually do!"

"Hey, you're right!" Rin exclaimed, surprised as Bon and Konekomaru put his arms over their shoulders and helped him up.

"You just noticed?" I asked sarcastically as Renzo helped me up. "You lost so much power that you can't heal quickly."

"We better get moving fast. The demons just noticed where we are," Izumo said. "Someone grab the Demon Core." I turned to grab the stone and froze in horror. The organization leader was standing a few feet away holding the Demon Core in his hands.

"Oh, no," Shiemi gasped.

"Did you think you could defeat me?" he snarled. "Even if the Demon Core didn't take all his power, the amount it did take was more than enough!" He put his hands around the diamond and started chanting. The Demon Core started glowing blue.

"Run!" I yelled, turning around and starting to climb out of the arena. The others followed in pursuit, dragging Rin with them. Once we were out of the arena we turned around. The Demon Core was spinning in the leader's hand and emitting blue ribbons. The ribbons then started to wrap themselves around the organization leader's body.

"You can't escape!" he roared. "Now, witness the power of the Demon Core!" The ribbons turned a darker blue, and the organization leader bent over.

"What's going on?" He hissed as his body started glowing red. "This shouldn't be happening!" He started screaming as his body started growing. He turned gray and grew horns, claws, and fangs. His screams turned into roars as he lost the last of his human features.

"What's happening?" Izumo yelled.

"The power of the Demon Core is too much for him," I said. "It's taking him over!"

"I thought you stopped it from taking Rin's power!" Bon exclaimed as the now demon organization leader started attacking his own men.

"Any amount of Rin's power is more than enough," I said.

"What do we do now?" Konekomaru asked.

"I don't know," I admitted. "We don't have a chance in fighting it but if we leave it alone, then it will come and attack the school." The demonized organization leader gave another roar and swiped his hand across the ground knocking pillars and demons over. We ducked as a demon went flying over our heads and crashed into the wall behind us.

"We need to think of something soon," Renzo said. "It's only a matter of time until it notices us!"

"Hey, Yukio," Rin said, "If the Demon Core has my power, then shouldn't I be able to defeat it?"

"Not in the condition you're in," I said. "You can barely stand."

"Yeah, okay, but if I could fight, would I be able to defeat him?" My brother asked.

"You would have a chance…" I said nervously. What was my brother planning?

"So, if I get my sword and unleash my full power, I could probably still defeat him?" Rin said, smiling.

"What!? That's crazy!" I exclaimed.

"But it would work, right?" Rin asked. "Once I get my power back, I will get some of my energy back." I clenched my teeth in frustration. What Rin was saying was right but it didn't make it any safer. It was still really risky.

"Rin, it's too dangerous," I finally said.

"Yukio, I took this mission. I need to finish it up," My brother told me. "If it would work then I'll do it, unless you have a better plan."

"I...yes, fine, I admit it would work," I finally admitted, annoyed.

"Okay, then I'll do it!" Rin exclaimed. I sighed and rubbed my forehead. There was really no other way out of this. Rin had to fight it.

"Rin, be careful," Shiemi said.

"Yeah, we don't want you to actually die," Konekomaru said. "It was hard the first time around."

"Don't worry, I'll be fine!" Rin said smiling.

"You better be," Bon growled. "If you die for real we're not going to forgive you." The others nodded in agreement.

"Don't worry, I won't die," Rin said softly. "I won't put you guys through that again. Promise." The demonized leader roared again, and Rin stumbled to his feet. He took two wobbly steps to the edge of the arena and fell in. Once he hit the ground he dragged himself to his feet and stumbled to the table. He grabbed his sword and pulled it out. Instantly blue flames emerged, and Rin's energy was restored.

"Finally!" My brother said, a grin crossing his face. "Hey demon!" The demonized organization leader turned slowly to look at him. "Come and fight me!" The demon roared as Rin charged forward. It swiped its arm and tried to hit my brother. Rin jumped over it, and the arm hit the side of the arena, showering stones all over us.

"We need to move farther back," I said as we retreated out of the danger zone. Rin continued to fight the demon as I tried get my bearings and think up a plan.

"One of us should go alert the other exorcists of the danger," I finally said. "Some of the members of the organization might escape and attack the school. Now that the leader has lost control over the demons, they are going wild." Near us, one of the wild demons was attacking a fleeing hooded figure.

"That plan won't work," Renzo said. "Our exit is blocked by rubble." He pointed to a pile of rocks behind us. It took me a few seconds to realize that was where the exit use to be.

"We're going to have a hard time leaving," I sighed as I turned back to my brother's battle. I felt completely useless. All I could do was hope Rin could win the battle, though that was starting to not look too promising. Although Rin had got back some of his energy by drawing his sword, he still didn't have a ton of it left. It was obvious that my brother was starting to tire as he jumped from side to side dodging the demon's claws.

"He's going to pass out if he doesn't end this battle soon," I thought worriedly. "He's using up too much energy." My brother must have thought the same thing because he ran forward and sliced the arm of the demon clean off. The demon through back its head as it gave an angry roar. Rin tried to take advantage of that to strike, but the demon noticed him and slammed its other claw into Rin. He went flying into the wall, causing some of the ceiling to fall. My brother coughed as he got up and wiped the blood away from his mouth.

"You'll pay for that one!" he yelled, rushing again at the demon. It lunged forward, and Rin jumped on its head and sliced at the Demon Core, which was still hovering. Rin's sword slashed the Demon Core, causing it to crack a little. The second the crack appeared, the ribbons of light that were holding the demonized organization leader turned black and disappeared. The organization leader gave a half human, half demon cry and dissolved into dust. Rin landed on the ground, panting.

"Rin!" Shiemi yelled, running into back into the arena. The others and I followed her. As we approached Rin, he put back his sword and fell to the ground.

"Are you alright?" Renzo asked worriedly

"Yeah," Rin said tiredly. "I'm just glad it's all over now." He gave a small laugh.

"You can finally come back from the dead," Bon said.

"You too, Bon," Konekomaru said. "Don't forget you're supposed to be dead."

"Actually, he just sort of disappeared," I told them. "According to the records, he vanished, and we couldn't find him. He's technically not dead."

"Lucky," Rin muttered. "It's going to be hard to explain to everyone what happened."

"I hope you learned your lesson about trying to take a mission to get out of homework," I told him. "And speaking of homework, you have a lot to of catching up to do."

"But I thought you've been giving all that homework so I wouldn't fall behind!" Rin exclaimed.

"That was so you wouldn't fall too much behind, you still missed a lot," I told him, amused. My brother shot me a hurt and betrayed look.

"Hey," Izumo said. "Rin took out the leader guy right? So shouldn't the Demon Core go back to being a black diamond?"

"It should," I said, frowning. "Why do you ask?" She pointed up. We all looked up to see the Demon Core was still floating in the air. Blue flames were leaking from it, and it was turning an unnatural bright pink color.

"That's not good," I gasped, jumping to my feet. "We need to get out of here!"

"What, why?" Shiemi asked, frightened.

"Rin must have damaged it too much," I said. "It's going to explode!"
