Chapter 14
As Robin walked back to camp he couldn't help but have many things on his mind. I wonder if Roland is ok and safe, and if the merry men are ok without him. Then his thoughts went to Selena and Alec. Should I have trusted him with Selena? What happens if he does something to her? I wonder how she is feeling, and if she is ok and her wounds are healing? I wonder if she is awake? Robin was nearly at camp but the thought of Selena being reunited with her mother came to his thoughts. I wonder how her majesty will react meeting her daughter after all those years. Would she be like Cora? What happens if Cora gets there before Selena. So many things were going through his mind but Roland and Selena were his top priority.
Robin came near camp, it was quiet but the fire was still lit. The first thing he noticed was Alec asleep and very close to Selena. He put the quail down, as he did that Alec sensed someone in the camp and quickly grabbed his crossbow. He relaxes as he notices that it was Robin. "Wow lad you are very alert and on guard." Robin told him impressed with Alecs reflexes. "Thank you, I have always been. I had to fend for myself since my father passed." Alec told him with a slight smile. Robin glances towards Selena "How has she been? Did she wake up?" He asked Alec curiously. Alec looked back and nodded "Yes and she was in pain so I gave her a herbal potion well medicine that will help." Robin got agitated "What does this potion do? And WHY did you not ask ME about it?" Alec noticed robins irritated expression and thought of a way to calm him. "I would have asked you but I thought she didn't need it. It wasn't until she woke up and was in pain." Robin nodded as he accepted his answer. "Ok well answer this, why was you so close to her?" What are you up to?" He asked as he raised his brow. "She woke up in pain and she thanked me for saving her, I introduced myself and we began to talk. I then gave her my herbal potion to help soothe the pain and also help her heal her wound." Robin was registering everything. "If you are here to hurt her and use her, I will rip you limb from limb. She has been through so much and treated cruelly." Alec shook his head "No I would never hurt her, she told me everything. I want to be there for her." Robin raised a brow "Do you care for her?" He asked, he noticed that she told him everything and that he wanted to be there for her. "I don't know, but something about her captivates me . She is so beautiful and broken and deserves to be happy. I cant help but feel like I have met her before, even though we haven't." Alec confessed.
"So what are you doing?" Robin asked knowing that Alec did care for Selena. He kept shooting glances towards Selenas sleeping form and when he spoke about her there was a sparkle of love in his eyes. Alec looked Robin dead in the eye "I am not doing anything, I care for her and want to be there for her." Alec replied back. Robin looked deep into his eyes "Just remember what I told you, if you hurt her." "You never have to worry about me hurting her." Alec told him confidently. "I hope so." Was all Robin said to him and he went off to start dinner. As Robin was preparing the quail Selena began to awake. As she awoke she noticed Robin by the fire. She slowly sat up not feeling too much pain. She put her legs down to slowly steady herself. Selena felt embarrassed because of her breakdown with Alec. She glanced towards him and their eyes met, Selena gave a slight smile and looked back to the ground. She slowly stood up and made her way to Robin. "good afternoon sunshine, how are you feeling?" Selena smiled as she approached him. She sat down near him "Good afternoon, Im feeling much better thank you." Robin looked up to her she seemed better and the colour was coming back to her. " If you wouldn't mind I would like to check your stitching." Robin asked her concerned. Selena nodded acceptingly. Robin told Alec to help peel some vegetables as he walked Selena back to her bed to check on her stitches.
"They are healing up really good, thanks to Alec's potion, but they need to be taken out." Selena looked at Robin wearily. "Will it hurt?" She asked nervously. Robin smiled reassuringly "No but it might feel funny. I will do it gently." Selena nodded and pulled up her blouse and undone the bandage. Robin pulled out a small dagger and slowly cut the stitches, after he cut them he carefully pulled out the thread. Some parts hurt and some parts the threading came out quickly. After they were all out Robin cleaned it and dressed it. "Oh, I have some news for you. I found footprints when I was hunting dinner, we are very close." Robin informed her. Selenas eyes widened, she noticed Alecs smile fading from the corner of her eye. "Does that mean we will continue our journey in the morning?" She asked. Robin nodded to answer her question. "Thank you for everything." Selena told him. Robin walks back to Alec, he also noticed his reaction to the news of them leaving in the morning. Robin asked him what he is going to do when they leave. Alec shrugs "I don't know." Selena glances back to him and notices hurt and longing in his eyes. Robin smiled as he came up with an idea "How about you join my merry men? That's if you would like to." Alec smiled "I would love to , thank you." Selena smiled from where she saw the hurt in his eyes were gone and replace with joy, and wondered what caused it.
Robin served dinner and told Selena that Alec was joining their journey but will also be joining the merry men after. They both thanked Robin for the luxurious meal. Selena excused herself and went for a walk. After a while Alec goes too, but he tells Robin that he is going to pick berries for tomorrow. Alec picked some berries and put them in his satchel. He was curious to where Selena went so he goes off to look for her. Alec walked further and noticed someone by the lake. He moved closer and quietly and noticed Selena sitting on a log by the lake in deep thought. Selena sensed that she wasn't alone so she grabbed the closest thing next to her which was a branch from a fallen tree. She looked around for whatever was lurking in the forest. Selenas voice falters as she shouts for them to come out and show themselves. "Whoever you are come out now!"
" I better be careful you might bruise me with that twig of yours." Selena quickly looked towards where the voice was coming from. She knew that voice sounded familiar. It was Alec, he was walking up to her with a smug grin. Selena raised her brow " This twig as you call it can do damage, when its in my hands." She replied back smugly. " You wouldn't do that to me." He says with a winks as he walks a step closer to her. Selena rolls her eyes and turns on her heel pretending to walk off but turns abruptly as if she was going to hit him, but he doesn't flinch and pushes her up against a tree. "A fighter hmm, I like that." His voice becoming husky. He winked "I would be careful if I were you." She told him half serious and flirty. She also raised her eyebrow noticing how close he is to her. Alec moves closer to her and she could feel his strong muscular chest pressed up against her with both arms beside each side of her head.
" You have beautiful eyes." He told her softly as he looked deep into her eyes. Selena began to blush and looked to the ground. "Thank you." She said her voice barely heard but Alec heard. Alec put a finger under her chin and lifts her head so she can look at him. " I cant help but feel like we have met before, but I would remember meeting someone as beautiful as you." Selenas cheeks went red as apples. She could feel his warm breath against her as he moved closer. Selena felt her heart begin to pound fast in her chest. Her lips parted before he moved an inch closer claiming her lips with his own. Their kiss was slow and passionate, they felt the connection getting stronger. They had to part to catch their breaths. They stared into each others eyes both sparkling with lust and longing. They both heard a rustling from the bushes, Alec turned around to find Robin shocked and fuming. They were very close and Robin didn't like it. Selena notices Robins anger and moves away from Alec. " I think you should go back to camp Selena. We will talk later." Selena nodded and made her way back to camp.
When Selena leaves Robin focuses on Alec. " Have you forgotten what we discussed." He told Alec with a glare. " No, I haven't." Alec replied hoping Robin didn't see them kiss. " Good, now show it." Robin told him in a commanding voice. With that he leaves and walks back to camp. When Robin walked back to camp he noticed Selena sitting by the campfire with her pace in her hands. Robin felt bad for being too hard on her, but he didn't want her to get hurt. He also saw her like a daughter that he never had. Robin walked up to her and sat next to her. Selena lifted her head up as soon as he came near her. " Im sorry for making you mad." Selena told him as she looked down at her hands. " I don't want you to get hurt , you are like a daughter to me." Selena looked up to Robin, her eyes glassy as they filled with tears. " I understand, and your like a father I wish I had . but I feel like we have a strong connection." Robin slightly smiles. " Just be careful." Selena turned to Robin and gave him a hug. Robin returns the hug knowing that she will feel better and reassured. After he gets up and bids her goodnight.
A little while later Alec walks back to camp. He notices that Robin isn't there but Selena was sitting by the camp fire. She was leaning against the log. He sat next to her " Im sorry if I got you in trouble." He said softly. Selena looked up to his piercing green eyes. " No I wasn't in trouble, he is just protective. Im sorry if he said or done anything to you." Alec placed a hand on hers "No he didn't do anything, and I just want you to know that I would never hurt you." Selena smiled and scooted closer to him, but felt a little bit of pain from when Robin removed the stitching. Without a word Alec got up and pulled out the potion from his satchel. He walked back and sat next to her. Selena could feel the warmth come back as his arm touched hers. " Here drink some of this it will help with the pain." Alec told her giving her the potion and a spoon. " You might need it, don't use it all up on me." She told him trying to hand the bottle back to him. Alec looked at her and declined her offer. " What will really make me happy is for you to drink it, and get better." Alec told her looking into her beautiful sapphire eyes. Selena smiled and poured the potion on the spoon. He really does care for me. I have never felt this way for anyone. I wish he could come with me. After she took the potion she got up and placed in back into his bag.
Alec missed the contact of her warmth and closeness, but he was relieved when she came back and sat next to him again. It was quiet for a while, they stared into the fire until Selena broke the silence. " Alec can I ask you a question?" She asked as she continued to stare into the fire. Alec looked at her " Of course , what is it you wanted to ask?" Selena turned her face looking him in his forest like eyes. " Why do you care for me so much?" She instantly felt embarrassed for asking her question and looked down and tried to scoot away from him. Alec noticed this change and put his hand on her wrist as a sign for her not to move away. Selena didn't make eye contact but stayed sitting next to him. " I care for you because I have never met anyone as amazing and beautiful as you, I feel we have a connection. And to also add you are a very caring person who loves with all your heart and soul." Selena looked up into his sparkling eyes, she felt herself blush which made her want to look away. " Thank you, but I'm nothing special." She replied back as she turned her face, to face the fire again. Alec cupped her cheek and moved her face back to look at him. " You are to me, and I care about you very much." Selenas eyes filled with tears and it didn't go unnoticed by Alec, he wiped at the stray tear with the pad of his thumb. "Im sorry, I-Its just that nobody's ever cared about me like that." She confessed to him. Alec smiled reassuringly " Well you better get used to it."
With that said Selena felt something deep inside her, she pulled him close and kissed him full of passion. They broke apart both staring in each others eyes green mixing with blue. Alec pulled her back to him and kissed her back feeling a spark between them. When they broke apart Selena leaned her head on his shoulder, they were both trying to catch their breaths. As their breathing got laboured Alec felt Selena scoot closer snuggling into him as she was fast asleep. He wrapped an arm around her and placed a kiss to the side of her head. " Sleep well Selena."
