A/n: Wow, I truly am impressed with you guys! Thank you all for the amazing feedback and for the followers and favorites. And just a little input, I do not stand for abandoning my stories so don't ever think for a second I'd leave you lovelies hanging for like a year or so. School has been quite a bitch this year and I've been trying to catch up with many things due to me having two F's last year. Yeah, ugly I know. Anyways! On to the story!
CHAPTER 5: HUNGER
"Up you dirty sluts!" An annoying bastard decided to yell, effectively making me snap up from my slumber.
Eyes snapping open, I shifted slightly to stretch but ended up feeling a mix of dull and sharp pains of my limbs. The bed obviously wasn't a soft mattress. It had just been a bunk connected to the wall with chains and a stained, burnt sheet obscuring the surface as my 'pillow' was nothing but my wool blanket folded up. Nothing had really changed in my perspective. I was hoping to see a bright sun gleaming through the window of my bedroom, a smooth, warm blanket snuggly wrapped around my body, and my family waiting downstairs cooking breakfast for the day. Not only that, but I had expected my small dog, Lilly, to be irritatingly though sweetly licking my face to wake me up. Now, that's all gone. I still hadn't had time to process it even though it's right here in pure reality standing right in front of my tired face.
"Darling, get up…" A whisper called out to me.
I glanced at the cell across from me; a woman in her early 30's standing in panic at her cell bars, gripping them tightly. Narrowing my eyebrows, I decided it was for the best to follow her orders. I grunted as I pushed myself up to sit, my bones screaming in agony, but I managed to actually get up to my feet. The world spun around me and caused me to wobble forward, the cell bars luckily close enough to catch my fall when I clutched them and pulled myself up.
"Are you okay?" The woman asked me, her voice barely audible.
"Yeah…I'm just a little dizzy," I replied softly and leaned my head onto the pleasuring frosty bars. They felt amazing against my throbbing, warm skin and instantaneously my headache subsided by a mere bit.
"Prepare for executions today, more people are being charged. Yesterday more than 30 people were prosecuted . Mistress Dhalia and Claudia have already sent in their slaves, all we need is to gather Master Xuchilibara's. Take the eldest first, there no big use much and I'll have Master Xuchilibara chose the rest that aren't needed to him," One of the guards explained very straight forward and strict.
My eyes widened and stared toward the woman and my voice squeaked slightly, "E-e-executions?!"
She sulked her head down and nodded sadly, "I doubt you will be chosen though. You're a young."
I suddenly perked up, giving a look of wonderment, "How the hell do you know that?"
"Everyone knows, sweetheart. Gossip goes pretty quick in prison y'know," She replied with a shrug.
"I don't deserve to be in a prison."
"And you think we do?" She gave me a wary look, eyes teary. "I..I had three kids back home…one ran away and I never saw her again…but I had also an amazing husband…"
I had noticed my tone was becoming rude again and my heart felt a pang of despair when she told me about her family. "I…I didn't know...I'm sorry.
"It's okay…I'm Charlotte by the way."
"Raphaella.." I answered, pursing my lips after. "Why are you in here?"
"It's not just me in here…" She prompted. "Me and my mother had been taken to the prison together," She didn't look at me in the eyes when she said that. Instead she stared out somewhere into the line of cells beside me.
"What did you guys do?"
Her eyes fell upon my brown ones, "We…were heading toward another town until our car skidded since it was snowy that night, and the roads were slippery. When we woke up we had nowhere else to go but to Silent Hill and once we got here….we searched for some food and met a young little girl."
"Who was she?"
"Her name she said was…Alessa."
The name brought a shiver down my spine automatically and my breathing hitched as I suddenly felt chills run crawl up my skin, goosebumps rising rapidly. "Alessa?"
"Yes…we thought she was lost and we told her we would find her parents. She said no and tried to run but…I don't know what got into me…" She whimpered, stuffing her face into her hands.
Shakily, I asked, "What did you do?"
Tears flowed down her face, "I grabbed her! I grabbed her into my arms and started carrying her back into our car! We only did it to help her find her parents!"
She began sobbing by now but I doubt that I'll be able to do any kind comforting to her. I barely know this woman and here she is pouring her life out to me. "…what happened next?"
"Take her first!" The officer shouted, a cell door sliding open.
A croaky elderly voice yelped, "No! Please let me go!"
I struggled to see what was happening since the wall beside me covered almost everything and I couldn't see that far into the cell bars. Charlotte though had an alarmed look on her face and she pushed herself onto the bars, shrilling, "No, no, NO! LET HER GO!"
"Quiet there!"
"Oh God! Have mercy! No!" Charlotte continued begging, falling to her knees.
"What's wrong?!" I worriedly asked.
"Those Satanic fiends have my fucking mother!" She slammed her fists onto the bars and they rattled and rung all through the hall. "No!"
She had practically gone ballistic, shaking the bars profusely and shrieking like a banshee. I just stayed quiet, too astounded by the sight and I shut my eyes tightly when heavy footsteps were heard to be stomping closer. I opened my eyes and saw that 2 guards had entered Charlotte's cell and one of them engulfed the thrashing woman in his arms, a syringe in the other one's hand. Sticking the needle into her elbow, her actions went limp, and her eyes fell closed. The guards carried her out of the cell, my teary eyes never leaving them and Charlotte until the concrete wall had concealed my sight.
I let out a long, heavy breath and tears went rolling down my eyes. I turned and slid down the bars and fell onto my bottom, my body trembling and my breath coming out as hiccups. Curling up into a ball slowly, I dropped my head onto my knees, not only sobbing out all my fears and anxiety but attempting to calm my hasty, pounding heart rate.
"Raphaella?"
I practically jumped from the voice behind me. I had fallen asleep after the disturbing taking of Charlotte and her mother and was unsure of how long I had knocked out.
"Raphella, scoot away from the door," The voice asked in a soft tone.
My sore puffy eyes finally took in the fact I was still sitting on the floor and I had obscured the path into my cell. Slowly and steadily, I set my hands onto the ground and pushed my body up, the icy bars gliding down my back as I did. I felt slightly light headed but bearable, although my back was aching from the hardness of the bars I was leaning on. I turned around to face the corridor and saw Dr. Kauffman, some folded clothes in his hands.
"Thank you," He said before sliding the door open.
"What are those for?" I asked croakily, pointing to the clothes he was holding.
"Remember how Master Xuchilibara said you had to work for another Master?"
"Not hard to forget," I bluntly replied as I recalled yesterday's traumatizing encounter with him, let alone my first every encounter.
He chuckled, laying them on my cot, "I'll be waiting for you outside of the corridor. You'll be meeting Master Claudia today."
"Are you serious?" I gave him an expression of disbelief.
"Yes, I am serious, Raphaella," He spoke strictly.
"Can I like…I don't know…stay in this cell forever and just die?" I blathered on, flailing my arms around.
"Sorry, jail doesn't work like that here in Silent Hill, it's more labor work," He shrugged and bent down to my ankle, unlocking that dreadful cuff. My ankle had swollen up purple and yellow, some scars formed. "There are some bandages in the drawer of the desk. Be ready in five minutes by the way."
He left me alone, my cell door wide open and tempting me to just make my escape now. Do it Raphaella. Do it. Survive. Those words echoed into my head but it clearly blinded the actual fact I could die in a matter of minutes trusting my stupidity like that. There were probably over a dozen guards all around this prison and I know for a fact I have never been the slickest person. To add with, my body was way too sore and fatigue to sprint or climb and such. I could even get lost for the love of God! I wouldn't want to accidentally bump into a guard, and especially a Master from not knowing which way is which. Officially, I couldn't make it out of here without any strong weapon of some sort and a strategic map in my head of where to escape.
"Idiotic thoughts," I muttered, bandaging my ankle before undressing the tight dress Lisa had put me into and put on a blue, plain long-sleeved button up and some dark navy, high-waist skirt that flared out mid-thigh and then some black tights. I finished it off with some black leather boots that felt really heavy actually. I unpinned my tangled, long hair and winced at the feeling. Luckily there was a brush on the desk, but didn't trust it by thinking how many women have used it. Well, either tangled hair or use a nasty brush. I didn't take my chances to use it though I did find a little strand of ribbon after rummaging through the desk drawers and used it to tie my hair out of my face up. A bowl of clean water and a face towel was also sitting on the desk. I washed my face clean, finally finishing.
"Raphaella! We got to hurry the transportation bus is leaving soon!" He called out to me.
Rolling my eyes, I grabbed all my 'necessities' and made my way to the corridor door. Two guards stood tall on either side of the entrance and they took a look at me before nodding me to go ahead. I opened the door and saw Dr. Kauffman writing on a clipboard.
"I'm ready, mom," I teasingly sneered at him.
"Enough sass, Raphaella. That almost caused you your death yesterday," He said and shook his head.
"I was not giving them sass!" I objected like the whiny teenager I apparently was.
"Oh shush, let's go, Mistress Claudia is waiting for your presence," He grabbed my arm and practically mauled me down the hallways of the prison. Wasn't he a bit odd today if I could say so myself. The arm he was gripping very tightly was screaming at me in agony, but I wouldn't give him anymore 'sass' than I should. Halfway down the way, we stopped at one hallway that I remembered entered the main hall into….Xuchilibara's throne room when the intercom called for Dr. Kauffman. "Are you fucking kidding me?"
"Don't give them, sass, Kauffman," I quoted him with a smirk.
"Wait here!" He commanded, pulling out a pair of handcuffs and holding them out.
I rolled my eyes, narrowing my brows and settling a hand on my hip, "Jeez, Doc, it's not like I'm going to make a wild goose chase for you."
"Silent Hill Toluca Prison orders, Raphaella dear, not mine," He explained before cuffing my wrists.
"I have feet you know…." I muttered with a mischievous grin.
"You said it yourself, you wouldn't make a wild goose chase for me," He retorted back with a wink.
"Yeah, yeah, go do whatever the fuck you need to do. I'll wait here," I sighed and waved a cuffed hand to gesture him to get along.
"Thank you, be careful of the other guards. You're not really supposed to be left alone!" He warned me as he started sprinting away to another corridor. "I'm sorry Raphaella, but I need to get this, it's for your health!"
"What is it?"
He called something out but I strained to listen to it and just shrugged it off.
The environment around me fell silent, the only sounds I bear to hear were the torches crackling and water dripping from who knows where. Already bored, I leaned on the wall, crossing my feet over one another casually. Waiting…waiting…waiting. My head craned back to also hit the wall behind me, quite tired and exhausted from yesterday's events still. Slowly and steadily when I noticed no sign of Kauffman's footsteps and just saw the darkness of the hallways around me, my eyes limply drooped down. Minutes…seconds…maybe an hour lasted in that ocean of complete darkness under my lids when I heard chattering and heavy footsteps that sounded unnatural.
"Master Xuchilibara, one-third of the prison has been executed. There will be more space now for some future…dolls," A voice informed but was also getting closer and closer from the hallway around the corner to my left.
Snapping my eyes open, I panicked. Shit, Kauffman! You warned me to watch out for guards but you never told me what to do! Ugh, son-of-a-bitch! I scanned my eyes all around me trying to find a spot to hide myself in, but stupidly I was in a bare hallway. I had to wait here though! But I couldn't let them see me!
"Good riddance of those bitches. New ones will do greater deeds," Xuchilibara's menacing voice boomed all over the hallway. "When's the next set coming in for judgment?"
"Uh…-" sounds of papers flipping was heard, "-in a couple minutes sir."
It took me a moment to realize this hallway I was standing in was the only way to the main hall to enter the throne room without going through the back. My head whipped around and their footsteps became even more closer than ever and I finally came to my senses that I couldn't stay here like easy prey to capture and ran. My footsteps weren't obviously nice and light and made quite the noises when stepping. James and Xuchilibara had managed to turn the corner halfway when I was about to turn another and caught me in their sight.
"Sir, the young!" I heard James exclaim once I turned the corner.
"Get her!" Xuchilibara seethed, his voice loud enough for me to even hear. My breath quickened as adrenaline pumped into my veins and sweat started forming on my head and back.
"Hurry up, Raphaella," I whispered to myself as my feet covered the ground of the random hallways I slipped into at a very fast speed. Thank god, for track. I always hated that sport but it helped me a lot with situations like this…not that I'm saying that I've been in a situation like this before but…you know what I mean! I pushed through some girls going through the corridors to line up for judgment.
"Hey watch it bitch!" One of them cried.
"Move you ugly slut face!" I growled, pushing the complaining prostitute out of my way.
The sounds of multiple heels clicking on the floor was heard behind me and I glanced over my shoulder, wishing I hadn't. About a dozen of those corpse nurses from yesterday were on a full sprint after me. Damn….I wish I could run in heels like that! Oh for the love that is all good and evil stop thinking idiotic thoughts Raphaella! I need to find a place to hide! I didn't know those things could even run, what the hell! Stamina had drained away from me, so had strength and my speed was slowly subsiding and the world around me began to spin. What the fuck, I know I would get tired but my body just felt insanely and oddly weak. Then it set a light bulb in my head.
'It's for your health'
Dr. Kauffman's voice rang into my head. I didn't eat for almost 2 days considering I also didn't eat before I left on the trip in the first place. Damn my lack of preparation. Wait, I didn't even know I was going to be arrested! My body had finally reached its limit when my legs gave out, my hand reaching out to grab the wall closest to me and slowly fell onto the cold marble floor on my back, seeing nothing but the masqueraded faces of those horrid nurses before my eyes closed. My heart had beaten so hard it made the noises around me muffle and my blood went cold as my stomach twisted with nausea and hunger I had never even noticed earlier.
"Food…" Was all I croaked out 'till I fully knocked out.
A/n: Long chapter I think? Haha well I hope you guys like it and I sort of made the nurses OOC as you can see because I find them a more challenging guard than the normal ones and it fitted since she was running from Xuchilibara. Anyways, next chapter is going to get a little gory and it's a torture part so brace yourselves. Winter break is approaching and I will be posting non-stop ^.^ So, Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you all have an amazing time with your families!
~ Till then, XOXO SweetieLuvAtomic :D
