Previously: Juvia's parents invite Gray into their house for dinner, much to their daughters dismay. They eat and talk about Juvia's past, her trouble times, and her father confirms Gray's feelings. As he leaves, Juvia chase after him and he apologizes for the fact he hasn't given her an answer yet.
The three girls headed down their schools outdoor hallway, with Levy laughing a little. Juvia, as usual, was spacing out with a slight red face. Natsu's overly energetic voice made them stop. They turned to see not only Natsu but Gray, Juvia bowed politely to Gray. He returned it and they continued on their way.
"How nice! Mutual love!" Levy said dreamily
"Levy, not so loud!" Lucy meant to say this in a stern voice, but her smile weakened it. She was happy too.
Juvia pulled up her school notebook to cover the bottom half of her face. She was really embarrassed, her face was burning up. "I've thought about dating you." His words echoed her head.
"Don't you guys plan on dating before Christmas!" Levy yelled in frustration, she shook her head no. Juvia didn't need a label to know his feelings.
"Levy? Isn't your birthday Christmas Eve?" Lucy pointed out.
"Don't worry about me," she said with a smile.
"I'll make a cake for you,"
"Okay!" Levy looked over at Juvia, and to her surprise, she was seriously red. "Are you okay Juvia?"
"Your face is burning up!" Lucy's voice was drenched in worry as she set a hand on her friends forehead.
They headed to the nurse's office to find it empty. Levy began to crawl in an empty bed, tired from math. Lucy looked at her, and shook her head.
"What are you doing?"
"I can't sleep?"
"No!"
Juvia began to open the closed curtains to the other bed, but a hand closed them hastily. It scared the shy girl and she hid behind Lucy. The blonde looked over at the curtains that hid the patient.
"Someone is there..." Her voice got quieter, Juvia sat down next to Levy.
"I'm worried about Juvia," the short girl said, worried that it it might be a guy and he'll attack her. A feminine cough soothed her troubles "it's a girl!"
The nurse walked in, glaring at the three girls. Than sighing, "what are you three doing here?"
"Here for Juvia Lockser, we brought her here cause she has a fever." Levy said, watching Juvia climb into the bed.
"Alright," she grabbed her thermometer and a moment later it beeped at 102 degree Fahrenheit. "Jeez, you do have a fever. I'll call your mom,"
The two girls left an headed off to class while Juvia was left to lay down. She browsed through her phone, messaging Levy at the same time. The coughing erupted again from the person next to her, making Juvia roll on her back and close her eyes.
"I wonder if the person next to me... Is okay?" The nurse walked in to her closed section.
"You're mom will be here soon, make sure to rest a lot when you get home." She left once again, this time leaving the room.
Juvia was left to sleep and just as she was dosing off, the door slid open and two people walked in. She got on guard when they stopped outside her curtain and slowly she sat up.
"Come on, let's say hi!" His voice was loud, and it sounded familiar.
"Idiot. She's sleeping, I don't want to bother her." Another boys voice, her mind was aching, making it a lot harder to think straight.
"But you're worried." It became clearer and she recognized as Natsu. Their two figure appearing thorough the curtains, she watched as one walked closer.
"If you think it's fine to bother someone when their sick, you're wrong." Gray. She blushed, immediately smiling lightly at the thought of Gray visiting her.
He got closer, and his hand reached forward to pull back the sheer curtain. Juvia laid back down, still watching him. Then he stopped, turned around and a heavy sigh broke the silence.
"Please... Take care..." Gray said before walking out with his best friend. Juvia was about to bask in the glory, blushing heavily and smiling when the coughing grew in intensity. She closed her eyes, deciding to sleep.
"Why..." The curtain pulled back revealing the coughing girl. "Was it you!?
Juvia opened her eyes, sitting up at the black haired girl. She recently cut her hair shorter, and Ultear looked close to tears. Juvia blinked and felt her happy mood crumble.
"In case you forgot, my name is Ultear!" She turned to the side coughing angrily. "Even though... you only know how to shake...your head, and I worked... so hard!"
Her coughing kept on cutting her off mid-sentence. Ultear pulled on the white mask to seize her germs from spreading, looking away and sighing.
"Whatever... I won't do anything anymore," Juvia watched her, feeling a small pang in her heart. "... I... The things I want to do with him, I'll forget it all."
After all the bad, and trouble Ultear caused. Juvia felt bad, she wanted to hug her, and tell her she'll find her special one soon. But she couldn't and instead was left to watch the girl push back her feelings. Ultear closed the curtains, restricting all view.
"Are you two... Dating?" Ultear's voice ached.
"She still likes him..." Juvia thought carefully, "we are-"
"Stop!" She pulled the curtains open once again, her eyes watery with near tears. "I don't want to hear it, never mind."
"Not dating." She finished her sentence. And Ultear went quiet for a minute.
"So you can talk..." She said, "Did the fever mess you up? No, should I say it made you better?"
Juvia internally groaned and laid back down, not wanting to deal with her insults. She pulled the curtain closed and decided.
"Compared to her... If I can say that I... Worked hard. I've worked hard but..."
She walked through the hallway with a clear mind and mission. Juvia was gone for three days an it gave her lots of time to sort out her thoughts.
"I can work a lot harder. I have to be strong."
"Morning!" Levy hooked arms with Juvia and smiled brightly. "I missed you!"
The crowd thickened as more students arrived at school, and she knew Gray was here. He had morning practice, and he would arrive any moment. And he did, Gray walked in with his always present friend. They made eye contact almost instantly, she watched him now ever so slightly. He didn't want a scene, but this time. Juvia wanted one.
She took a small step forward, breaking away from her friends she always stayed next to. Juvia felt brave, and the adrenaline made her take a couple more steps. The pace increased and people began to notice her, they whispered about her arrival, not noticing her walk towards Gray. His back was to her and she felt annoyed, she wanted courage. She wanted to be with him.
"Good morning..." her voice was louder, prouder. It hushed the hallway, and most importantly. Caused the dark haired boy to turn around, his eyes wide. "Gray..."
People were staring, and their jaws were ajar. Only the people in her classroom have heard her talk, and only that was text. She never greeted anyone and once everyone recovered from the shock, a large number of gasps exploded, angry yelling.
But she couldn't take her eyes off him.
