Dedication: Yuki Loxar- cause her review made me smile and get me back on my feet.
Previously: With the term exams coming up, the group goes to Gray's house to study. His mom meets Juvia, and learns about their relationship. When Gray and Juvia are left alone, she sees a picture of the middle school dojo club with him, Gajeel, and Lyon in it. He pulled it away from her and after a week of studying, she failed two subjects.
A young Juvia blinked up in awe at the blinking Christmas lights, she couldn't help but love the contrast of the dark green tree with the neon lights. Juvia could feel the warmth of her fathers hand in hers, along with the other hand being occupied by her mother. She strained her neck to look at the very top of the tree, her eyes glistening as they settled on the star.
"Why does Christmas have two days?" Little Juvia thought, "it's... Kind of like a blessing or a miracle..."
Her eyes fluttered open to the morning Sun. She sat up and pulled open up the slightly shear curtains, letting the previously filtered Sun flow in. Juvia watched the snow flutter down and at that moment, she felt grateful for the two days. The 24th for Levy's birthday, the 25th for Gray. After a night of playing games and eating cake with Lucy and Levy, it was Christmas Day and a date with her boyfriend. A miracle for sure.
Juvia quickly got ready and headed to school, ashamed of going to extra classes. When she reached the school gate, Levy stood there smiling happily and greeted her with great enthusiasm. They headed into class and began their school catch up. Juvia listened half heartedly and after thirty minutes into class, the teacher realized.
"Ms. Lockser, if you know this concept so well that you get to not pay attention. Please tell me the answer for number three," Mrs. Strauss said, voice a little too cheery.
After four more hours passed, Juvia finished up the head ache classes and ran out of the school. Levy ran with her, knowing Juvia was avoiding Gray and the whole karate club. Two boys jogged by in karate gi and almost had Juvia screaming. Levy pulled her behind a tree and waited for the whole team to pass.
"I haven't told him, I'm scared he'll be ashamed of the stupid girlfriend who can't pass, not one... But two classes,"
The two pulled out of their hiding spot and began their walk back to the school gate. Juvia turned to where the club now stretched, her eyes falling on Gray. They stop and watch behind the chain fence, a wave of sadness crashing into her, and she clenched her bag tightly.
"He's working so hard... That's good... But I feel like, the more I watch him. The more sad I feel." Levy pulled her away, taking her home.
Gray turned around and saw just a flicker of her dark blue curls. He breathed heavily in exhaustion, and followed the club back to the Dojo. Natsu caught up to him and smiled playfully.
"Are you busy today?" He asked with a knowing tone.
"Yeah,"
"What did you get her for a present?" Natsu leaned over in curiosity.
"Huh? Err..." Gray looked over at him.
"Don't tell me you didn't get one!? Gray!" Natsu ran his fingers through his pink hair, ready to pull it out.
"I know! I need one!"
"Then what's taking you so long?!"
"I!..." He paused, "I don't know what to get her..."
"Oh... I don't know then, what's her interests?" Natsu looked up, "I guess useful stuff? Ordinary things? So I guess anything is fine!"
"That's too casual," Gray said as if he already reached that conclusion.
"Well if its her," Natsu gave him a side glance, "she'd be happy with anything you give her."
Levy played with Juvia's hair quietly, then decided to keep it simple and only add a few ringlets. She was already dressed in a blue skirt, tights, brown faux fur booties, along with a white jacket. Lucy handed her a beanie, but Levy took it away.
"You'll mess up her hair..." This earned a mutter from the blonde.
They chatted while waiting for Gray. The minutes passed on and ten minutes after his practice ended, Juvia looked out the window in anticipation. Any minute he would arrive, but five minutes passed. Twenty minutes in, Levy began to roll around anxiously. Twenty-five, Juvia paced nervously.
"Did he break his leg? Or even worst!?" She bunched up her purse in her hands and swung open her room door, ignoring the waits from her two friends.
"Did he see me at school? Then saw me as unfit and stupid!?" Juvia let her thoughts consume her as she turned out of her house.
The snow fell calmly as her heart pounded, Juvia smashed the beauty of it and only focused on not slipping. She needed to make sure he was okay, or apologize. Be near Gray.
"Gray," she whispered, watching her words turn to white air.
Juvia grabbed the wall to propel herself onto the next street, but was instead greeted with a chest. Out of habit, she pushed the person away and froze up.
"Juvia?" His voice revealed he was shocked, but it was still soft and familiar.
"Gray?" Juvia looked up at him and blushed, smiling lightly at the sight of him.
"I'm sorry, I'm super late..." He looked down awkwardly.
"Are you okay?" They said at the same time, then paused. After a second of realization, the couple laughed.
"Here, I was late because of this..." Gray held out a flat brown bag, and she took it happily. "Merry Christmas..."
"He chose it... Just for me..." Juvia thought, staring at the bought object.
"Gray... I had to go to supplementary classes... I feel, so useless..." She looked down nervously.
"I see, it's nothing." He smiled tenderly at her, "it's nothing, I won't think much of it..."
Juvia slid out her present and stared at a study book for math. She blinked in surprise, and blushed in embarrassment.
"I'm just glad it's useful..." He looked at her, "I couldn't figure out what to give you despite all of our conversations,"
"He was thinking of me... While buying this..." Juvia looked up at him and noticed all the snow flake in his hair, it was snowing and she completely forgot. "Thank you."
He wasn't sure why he was surprised, but remembered he thought she would be angry for the horrible present. "... Yeah..."
The young woman fumbled through her bag and grabbed her gift for him, he stared at it. After a second of confusion he took it shyly, and looked at her from behind his raven hair.
"Thank you..." He began to unwrap it.
"I thought about the moment I would be giving him the present, but now I feel uneasy. What if he's trouble by it? Or doesn't like it? I need to stop doubting myself..." She looked down, shut her eyes and waited nervously.
"Thank you, I love them..." She whipped her head up and was met with Gray wearing a pair of gloves, with black and blue detailing. Juvia broke into a smile, she couldn't hold back.
She was glad he liked it, even happier he was actually wearing it. Gray looked at his Girlfriend, noticing the bare hands and their slight tint of red. He held out the gloves, setting them onto her cold hands. She went wide eyed, then a nervous feeling washed over her. Juvia quickly gave them back to him, thinking he was giving them to her because he didn't want them.
"I'm lending them to you..." He set them on her hands again, and helped her put them on before shuffling forward.
"I... Can't wear them before him..." Juvia trotted to catch up to him, taking off the gloves at the same time. He heard her and turned slightly, and in a quick movement Juvia pressed them to his palm. Gray smiled slightly, and switched the gloves to his other hand before intertwining fingers with her.
She blushed and looked at him, a warmth surging through her body. Then her heel bent awkwardly on the wet snow adding to the fall, Gray didn't know what was happening until he felt her falling down. He still held her hand and joined Juvia in her slipping. They sat on the snow in shocked silence, Juvia blushed and couldn't believe she just did that.
"... Sorry..." Gray said, making Juvia quickly shake her head.
"I'm... Sorry..."
He stood up and put a hand out for her, but she didn't notice. The blue haired girl got up on her own and brushed the snow off. Gray put his hand down only for her to put her's out. They finally met, and held tightly as they walked to the town center. No words were said but both felt happy. When they reached their destination, Gray and Juvia stared up at the giant tree as it blinked its' white lights.
"Even if supplementary classes start in the morning... I will work hard with the reference book..."
They looked at each other, trading a compassionate smile.
"Fifteen years old... I had the best Christmas."
