18-No Mercy
He remembered seeing the huge gash in his chest. Ripped his chest open, like tissue. Blood, running down his stomach like paint. He was dead. Atem was dead. He could never forget that sight.
Yugi laid on the ground, completely still. His poor fragile body, beaten to a pulp. There wasn't any place where there wasn't a bruise. He could smell blood coming from his wounds. The poor boy was had been beaten to a bloody corpse.
Atem and Yugi, they suffered so much pain. And now they were both dead, thanks to Yami.
But wait...why did those names suddenly disappear from his mind? Why did he all of a sudden, forget? Well...It didn't matter. He could replace those names easily. It was obvious, Pain and Death.
Now what was he doing?
Ah yes...Getting rid of the vermin. But why?
Oh it didn't matter. More blood shed was fine by any means.
The scream was short. Almost like it didn't happen. But, it was known. Considering Yami's low voice, it was impressively high. Very loud, able to damage ear drums. The scream rivaled banshees, outmatching mandrakes. It was also, an excellent distraction.
As quick as the painful scream was, its effect lingered. As of now, Toxin, Venom and Yugi were all covering their ears in pain from the scream. Even the artificial shadow-walkers dropped on the ground like flies from the sceam. While they were trying to recover from the screech, they didn't notice Yami take this chance to do what needed to be done.
As they began to cautiously uncover their ears, everyone slowly glanced at where Yami was.
Unfortunately, that's not what they saw. Instead, they saw dozens of shadows circling around Yami like lost spirits. They surrounded him, acting as guardians. Yami just continued to stand still, his face still not visible to anyone. Seeing as how no one would notice him at this moment, Yugi sat up, and got a good look at Yami. His eyes then widened in fear.
Those shadows, grew bigger. Much, much larger. They looked like the monsters that Yami once described to Yugi when Atem discovered black magic. Soon, the shadows engulfed Yami, his body no longer visible. It was as if they ate him whole, gulping him down into their darkness.
Venom grinned in excitement, while Toxin only gritted his teeth, not sure of what to do. Yugi just stared in disbelief, unable to register that this was actually happening.
Suddenly, there was a bright light, a blue light illuminating from the shadows. It clouded everyone's vision, making everyone look away. When the light faded out, everyone realized how dim everything seemed. Yugi looked up at the sky, noticing how grey and dark the clouds were. There was no more sunlight. While yes, the day was almost into evening anyway, that doesn't excuse the fact that there used to be a sunset. And even if it was night time, there wouldn't be dark clouds roaming around.
When the light user adverted his eyes back to Yami, he knew for a fact, that the person standing in Yami's place now, was not his lover.
Dark blue aura drifted in the air. It felt evil, cold, blood thirsty. It was everywhere, like a pale blue mist lurking about. It could make anyone shiver in fear. It made Yugi gulp, and he felt himself tremble. The mist of evil aura wasn't too thick, so the boy could easily see through it. That's when he saw a silhouette. The silhouette matched his lover's, but once again, he knew darn well this person was no longer Yami anymore.
The silhouette walked from the mist, revealing its appearance. They way it walked was creepy, slightly limping. This person, was a monster. The Yami he knew didn't walk like that. The Yami he knew didn't have grey skin with blade shards shredding out of his arms. Yami never had the eyes of a dead fish. They were never ice blue either. The red streaks in his hair, were now blue and that wasn't right. He never had grotesque sharp nails, or visible blue veins pulsing and beeping throughout his body. Or black blood dripping down his hands and mouth. This was a monstrosity gone wrong. This was no normal shadow-walker anymore. This was truly a shadow beast.
Yami was gone. That much was certain.
This new monster continued to glare at nothing with dead eyes. It seemed that he didn't acknowledge anyone that was nearby.
Everyone except Venom, knew it was best to keep their distance. However, Venom, not having a care in the world strolled over to the shadow beast, and gently put a hand on his shoulder.
"You done, Poison?"
The monster said nothing.
"That's what I thought. Now why don't you-"
And like that, he was sent tumbling down in the concrete. The punch was so quick, no one was able to follow its movement. The shadow beast slowly retracted his hand to his side, and began limping towards Venom's body. Venom was punched so hard, he couldn't recover from that powerful punch.
Seeing his partner in crime down, Toxin yelled a command to the artificial shadow-walkers. One by one, they rose to their feet, and made their way to Yami. However, some were not able to move further once they made contact with that evil aura. Some fell back, while others still rushed in, trying to attack the monster.
Yami, now knelt down by Venom's side, slowly turned his head to the side. Giving a half glare at the artificial shadow-walkers. His eyes were lowered, his gaze piercing through. The shadow-walkers paused their movements once they were spotted. As if having the instincts of an animal, Yami's eyes shrunk, giving a warning to all who came close to go away.
Though they hesitated, they kept moving, running wildly to their target.
In Yami's eyes, he saw seven shadow-walkers coming towards him. To him, he felt as if they were nothing. He slowly stood up from his position and turned to his enemies. Once an unfortunate shadow-walker came close enough, he made his move. He shoved his hand through one, then swinging another to the ground. Stomping its head in and ripping his hand from out of one. He punched one down so hard, their head burst, spewing black blood rapidly. He grabbed one by the arm, and swung them as a rope, twirling them like a rag doll and throwing them into a building. He swung his arm across someone's neck, slitting their throat from the sharp blade shards in his arms. He felt himself want more, blood lust shrouding his eyes. One foolish shadow-walker was running towards him, screaming like a mad man. Yami's eyes slightly glimmered, seizing the poor man by the neck tightly. As he kept this one still, another ran from behind. The shadow beast acted quickly, biting a chunk out of walker's neck and quickly turning to the other with angry eyes.
The shadow-walker halted, actually feeling scared to move.
Yami only stared, careless of its fear. He opened his palm, sharpening his nails. He then shoved the walker onto the ground, hard. He punched it in the jaw once, and that was it. The lower part of its mouth flew straight off. He stomped its head in, blood splattering all over the ground. After spitting the flesh out of his mouth, he slowly turned around, more shadow-walkers running.
For the first time in this situation, everyone actually saw this Yami show emotion. He was grinning.
He charged forth into the crowd of shadow-walkers, destroying them all one by one. Just like in the quarantine zones, he ate some, he sliced some down, he beat some to a bloody pulp, or he simply mutilated them into nothing.
Everyone just watched in silence, and utter shock.
Yugi's eyes shook, near tears. Why was he ready to cry? Because he just watched his beloved break down and turn into a horrid monster so disturbing, he couldn't even explain it. He was just on an absolute rampage, and it was heartbreaking to look at. Seeing Yami this angry...
It was scary.
Yugi, please. Put yourself together!
The boy almost completely forgot Atem was 'here'.
I know how to break him from this state, but you must do exactly what I say. His voice was timid, speaking his words precisely but very quickly
"Have you seen this before?"
Honestly, no. I have never seen Yami like this before, not even when he went on a blood rage. This is a new low for him. He sounded disappointed.
"How do I stop him?"
Just use your power on him. If you do to him what you did to me in my world, he should go out easily. Your light overcomes any darkness, even darkness this evil and vile.
"I think I understand. The only problem is getting close enough."
You must be careful, and you must be quick. Yami may lose himself in this form. You must wait for an opening. He warned.
"..." Yugi bit his lip, wiping his eyes of any tears that threatened to fall out. He couldn't roll up and cry now. He needed to stop Yami. Even though his body hurt all over, he stood up on his feet, slightly wobbling side to side from the pain. His palms glowed bright white, and hugged himself. He began to heal, his bruises disappearing. He felt immediately better, and he praised himself for improving in his powers. He narrowed his eyes at the shadow beast that was tearing through shadow walkers. He had to get to him, now.
Meanwhile, Akefia and that Marik guy were having all kinds of trouble getting close to Yami. Right now, Yami was punching the life out of Akefia, knocking him into a building. Marik tried helping, but Yami only kicked him down. As of now, Yami was way too strong for them. Each time Yami missed them with an attack, either the street's concrete would crumble apart, or a building would get severely damaged.
Yugi cursed to himself. If those two couldn't get close to Yami, how in the world was he supposed to do it?!
Since Yami's transformation, it's only been twenty minutes. The city already was crumbling to ruins. Between the shadow-walkers, Akefia and Marik destroying things, and Yami causing even more damage to everything in sight, the city was going to be destroyed all together. And it wouldn't be too long before that would happen either. Atem was right, he needed to do this and fast.
But how? How in the world could he get close enough without being torn to shreds?
He knelt to the ground, keeping one eye on Yami and one eye on the other two shadow-walkers. He thought back to when Atem randomly kept attacking him in his world. How did he manage to get Atem down so easily with one hit?
He remembered that Atem cornered him, he had him on the ropes. When he began to walk up to him and got really close, that was the perfect time. Yugi snapped and with the right timing, shoved a hot ball of pure magic into his chest. He didn't know how he did it, but he made that magic expand bigger and bigger, making Atem nearly pass out.
If he could just some how get Yami to...
Yeah. That would work!
Of course that idiot would get himself into trouble now. Of course he would be the cause to all this damn destruction on the city. Of course he'd be the one who'd have to snap him out of it. If this situation was anything like three thousand years ago, when Seth had to snap Yami out of his first blood rage, he'd have to do the same. He'd have to do it by force as well. It wasn't a problem, because he was almost positive Yami couldn't kill him.
Almost positive...
Seto gritted his teeth in anger. He told that idiot not to lose himself. And what does he do? He transforms into some kind of hideous monster, destroying more than half the city. If that wasn't bad enough, the killer of his little brother had the nerve to be down there too.
Seto first found out what happened when he got to his office from the quarantine labs. Yami never noticed that Seto placed a tracking device in his shadow clothing. How? He made the device himself, with shadow magic of his own so it would be able to stick to him. However, he noticed that the tracking device was destroyed, because when he tried to trace Yami back at his office, he got no signal or readings. Hacking into the city's mainframe, he saw the cameras of Domino City. And he saw everything go down.
So what was he doing now? He dispatched a helicopter, and flew to the location. Right now, he was hovering over the chaotic battle now. He could see everything. Yami smashing everything, the vermin who killed Mokuba, even that shrimp Yugi Muto...knelt on the ground. And some other asshole who was probably an enemy shadow-walker. If his visions were correct, that was Marik, or rather, Venom.
He quickly commanded the pilot to pick him up from here in around thirty minutes, and dropped down. He was surprised no one heard his arrival, or the helicopter. Everyone must have been so wrapped up in trying to get to Yami, nothing else could get their attention. As he waltzed through the dim-witted artificial shadow-walkers, he slowly but easily made his way towards Yami. Soon enough, he walked past Yugi.
"S-Seto!?" He gasped. The taller man stopped, and gave a short glance at Yugi before continuing over to the shadow-beast.
As for the light user, Yugi tried to figure out what exactly Seto was trying to do. Once he walked past Yugi, he could sense darkness. Seto truly was a shadow-walker as well. After not seeing him after so many years, he suddenly makes his appearance now? Perhaps it was to save Yami, but how? Or rather, for Yugi, this was the perfect plan. If Seto could distract Yami enough, this just might work.
Once Seto came at least a few yards within range of a Yami, some debris was thrown at him. He of course dodged it with no problem, but what the heck? Not a nice welcome. Even more rubble was thrown, but it didn't phase Seto at all. However, it did effect someone else. He watched as someone got roughly thrown past him into the crumbled concrete. He turned back, only to see the killer of his Mokukba.
White hair, a bit spiky but long. Dark sinister brown eyes, pale skin...
Toxin...
Or rather, Akefia. Not the true Akefia, but the bastard's creation.
He could kill the asshole right now. He was already badly injured from Yami's attacks, he was down for the count. He could destroy him here and now. Avenge Mokuba's murder.
"Moki..."
Mokuba...
His everything. The one person that always was by his side since child birth.
They were always together, never apart. They always had each other's back, ready to help the other in anything. They were so close, they loved each other so much. Their bond was absolutely unbreakable.
His innocent persona...
His black wild long hair, his dark cloudy blue eyes, his cute round face...
The way he would call him 'nii-san'...His cute voice. His personality, so bubbly, but only when Seto was around. His smile could light up even the darkest of hearts. His laughter...
"Seto, you're always so busy. You never have time for me anymore!"
Oh how he wished he could go back and reverse time.
"Sorry Mokuba. Maybe another time."
If he couldn't stop his death, he'd much rather spend more time with him before his demise.
"Seto! You promised we could do something together!"
Maybe if he had listened to his visions-
"Mokuba, I said another time. Quit bugging me."
Or maybe if he had been a better person...
"...You always do this to me. You don't care about me anymore, do you?"
Or maybe...If he just been a better brother to him-
"What if I just disappear? I bet you'd care then huh?"
This wouldn't have happened.
"Mokuba, please. Just get out of my office right now. You're annoying me."
Maybe fate...Or karma...
Would have took mercy upon them both.
"Mokuba...Wake up. Please."
Looking at all his mistakes and regrets in life, this one was the most difficult. This was the most troublesome.
"Please!"
If he could have just seen all this coming before, and if he had the power to just stop it all and stop that from happening-
But he couldn't. He was powerless.
Powerless and weak.
...
A giggle haunted his thoughts.
"Haha! Seto you're such a bad brother!" That was a long time ago. When they played in the mansion, he pretended to be a monster and gobble Mokuba up.
And how these words tormented him so...
...No.
He couldn't. He-
-It just wasn't the right place. Nor the right time. He wanted to beat him down and kill him himself. He didn't want help. He wanted this bastard murdered in cold blood just like he did to Mokuba. He wanted him to put up a fight. He wanted it to be some-what of a challenge. He wanted to destroy him in his own perfect place and on his own time.
He couldn't. He just couldn't. No matter how much he was in his grasp, it just wouldn't feel right.
He wouldn't be satisfied. He'd have to wait for another time.
So with the violent bite of his lip, he turned back around, and marched over to Yami.
Blood. So much of it.
It was everywhere.
In the beast's eyes, it was like a festival of black ink and red crimson.
All he had to do was keep killing. And the fun would just arise even more.
But...
Who was that man? The man with the short brown hair...ice blue eyes..A scowl planted on his face. The beast cocked his head to the side, curious. This person seemed familiar, but he just couldn't put his finger on it. Well, whom ever this person was, they were coming closer and closer. Each step was like a clock ticking towards their confrontation. The beast only held his ground, and stood tall. Standing on the rubble of debris and corpses. The beast began to walk too, sensing that this particular person would be fun to toy with.
As for Seto, he knew Yami would take the bait. He knew he couldn't resist killing something powerful. It was simple. All Seto had to do was literally beat the life out of Yami, and snap him out of it. Or at least, that's what Seth did. If it worked back then, it should work now. Yet, he still felt some doubt. During Yami's first blood rage, it wasn't nearly as bad this, nor did he transform into something so hideous. Seto's power couldn't even begin to match up, not even nearly as close to Yami's now. How could he take him down? He had to at least try. Make some effort. After all, Seto was the only one besides Atem who knew all of Yami's weak spots. This wouldn't be as easy as said, but it would be durable.
At least, Seto hoped it would be.
"You really need to be put down." The taller one's hands were engulfed in black aura. He had to do this. No one else could be powerful enough to stop this monster. He was the only one that could do it. Seto had to do it. Yami was his responsibility in Atem's absence. If he couldn't do this, he'd fail him.
Yami kept limping towards him, which almost gave Seto the creeps. Just looking at him, and truly realizing what he's become...
Seto just closed his eyes in disgust.
"You damn idiot." He cursed. "How could you allow yourself to turn into this!?" He yelled. The monster only kept limping closer. They were only a few feet away now.
Venom and Toxin both were on the ground, panting, too tired to get back up.
"You think this is what Atem wants to see?!"
The monster flinched, pausing his movements.
"Is this what you want him to see!?"
A glare was his response.
Seto gave a glare back, but not in anger, in shame. Yami was at his lowest of low. This was truly shameful, and if Atem was here, he'd be ashamed to call him his former lover. He took a fighting stance, ready to attack. But before he could react-
Yami was already in his face, and he didn't notice until the last minute that he just got punched in the jaw.
He was knocked back at least ten feet away, into the ground like everyone else. He however, got right back up, and ran for Yami. The black orbs in his hands becoming bigger.
Yami only stared, and he got on his hands and knees. He was ready to pounce.
Go! Go now! This is your chance!
"I know I know!"
Run, run, run, run just run. That's what Yugi was thinking once he saw Seto and Yami begin to fight. Just like in Atem's world, he ran as fast as he could. Sprinting so fast, track stars would praise him for his effort. He almost tripped a couple times over some corpses, but he paid it no mind and kept going. He almost got hit with some rubble, and he almost was grabbed by an artificial shadow-walker that was severely injured, but didn't seem to bleed out yet. As he started running past Marik, he felt himself get pulled down. Marik was grinning like a cheshire cat. Yugi just gave a furious scowl and kicked him in the chin, making him knock back and hiss in pain. He kept going, not letting anyone stop him. Not even the killer of his grandfather.
He twisted and turned, dodging debris and skipping over more dead bodies. But the farther he ran, the farther Yami seemed to be. It felt like the huge street just kept getting longer and longer.
It was like, no matter how hard he tried, Yami kept getting away from him. No matter how fast he ran, Yami was never in his grasp. As if...
He was already too far gone.
Realizing this, he felt himself slow up. Starting to jog instead of sprint. Soon, he came to a complete stop, just standing there, and gazing at what he was trying to get. Something that he could never get back.
Yami...
Jii-chan...
Atem...
All things that he's grasped before, but could never truly hold forever. That he will never hold forever. Eventually, two things on this list became things he could never even touch again.
If Yami was too far gone, why even try?
'Because...'
It was too late. Wasn't it?
'Because...'
His love was too strong to give up.
He wanted to see Yami normal again. He wanted to see him laugh and joke and flirt with him like he usually did. He wanted him to catch him by surprise and kiss him. He wanted Yami and Atem to be good friends again. He wanted to be happy. He wanted Atem and Yami to be happy. He wanted to love Yami again, and he wanted to just end this and bring him back home.
His pace picked up again. And soon he was up and running. Sprinting faster than before. He had to wake Yami up. Make him realize what he's done. Make him snap out of it, and realize that he was alive and well! That Atem could still be saved, and that they could all be united together! To prove to him that there was more to this world than blood lust and killing.
He could bring him back. He could get him back to normal.
All he needed to do now, was get to him!
Seto couldn't hold him off any longer. All he could do was barely dodge his attacks. He couldn't get a single scratch on Yami. He couldn't even make him sweat or pant from being tired. He couldn't get him to give his full effort! Yami was toying with him! The fact that he was still too weak, angered him. He didn't know what to do. He couldn't do anything. Yami was just going to eventually kill him. He got knocked down again, but this time, he couldn't get up. He saw black blood dripping down his white jacket. Bastard must have hit a lung with those blades from his arms.
This was it. He was done. He couldn't do anything. Yami was just going to kill him, and continue his rampage until he too would eventually die from all that darkness.
Damn...
"Please stay still for me!" A familiar annoying voice said. Seto blinked. There was no way in hell that midget got up. He sat up, painfully groaning from the movement of his injuries. He looked up to see Yugi running past him.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Seto croaked, coughing up blood. But the boy only ignored him, and continued running at full speed. Meanwhile, Seto could not believe what he was seeing.
First of all, he just realized, Yugi Muto, was a light user. Second, he was running so fast, that he could see white aura surrounding his feet. He was using light magic to make him run at an incredible speed. He also saw that in the palm of one of Yugi's hands, a huge white orb was ready to burst. His eyes dilated.
He was going to shove that into Yami.
He was almost there. He was so close. Yami was right there in plain sight. He was too distracted by Seto who was yelling at Yugi to stay away. The boy knew Seto was smart enough to figure out what Yugi was trying to do. He was only doing him a favor, by distracting Yami purposely. He'd thank him for that later.
The light user knew this was his chance. Yami was wide open. He pulled his arm back, and retracted his legs. He jumped-
-and before Yami could completely turn his attention to the boy, Yugi had already shoved his hand through his chest.
The pain, was so God damn horrible, that he could not scream. He fell backwards from Yugi's weight, and fell onto the ground with a heavy thud, Yugi landing on top of him.
Almost instantly, Yugi regretted doing that action, because Yami was in so much pain.
His expression looked scared. His eyes shrunk so tiny, his face so terrified, his mouth was slightly open. As if trying to get out a scream, but his voice just wouldn't respond. His grey, blade coated arm, slowly reached towards Yugi. The boy only covered his mouth, his eyes cascading of tears.
It was like he was trying to say..."Please stop...Please stop it.." Asking him to stop the pain.
Yugi assumed, this was what it was like to shoot yourself in the head the wrong way.
After a long silence, everyone, even Venom and Toxin staring at the dying monster-
-he screamed once more.
