When Kate arrived at home Alexis already had been of to bed. Rick was writing and seemed to be completely focused on his work.
Kate suddenly felt the urge to go for a run. She took her usual route towards the Central park. This part of the Central Park was almost deserted at this hour. There were a few homeless resting on a bench and a few teenagers.
Anger became a part of her. Anger about herself. Anger about things she couldn´t name.
She ran as fast as she could. Trying to run off all this unpleasant feelings.
Why the hell does she feel like this? She handled it like this for years now.
The detective wasn´t able to tell what bothered her more. The fact that she lied to her friends or that her daughter was angry.
But she knew why she wanted her family to be a secret. She ran another two miles before returning home, taking a shower and falling into bed.
The sun was rising when her clock started off. Her body felt sore from her run and her mind was still confused. She had a nightmare which made her remember why she valued the separation of family and work. She dreamt about something that happened when she started as a patrol officer. Brought back to reality by her phone she took a deep breath to clear off her mind. Her family was safe.
Esposito told her new developments on the Fisk case and she told him that she would be at the precinct soon. Though the morning seemed to promise a fast closure thet only ran into dead ends. At 7pm she went home to help her husband getting ready for his book party. His last Derick storm book was just released and she had to watch Alexis. At home Alexis greeted her with the words "I'm going with grams to dad's bookparty." There was no room nor time to discuss, because Martha walked out of the loft with Alexis following her. Kate was perplex and went to the master bedroom where she located her husband. She couldn't figure out how she felt. Angry, confused, concerned!? When she took sight of Rick she knew that he had a pretty rough day. "Hey." She gave him a quick peck. "So, tell me about Alexis", Kate prompted. Rick told her that Alexis was completely out off her mind but that he decided it would be the best to cool off the situation and make his mother watch her for the evening and that he wasn't sure if she couldn't make it home with an ongoing case. And Ricks hitch was proven right when Kate received a call
"Beckett, we have another one", Ryan stated. "Okay,I'll be there in 20. Text me the address." She kissed Rick goodby and was out of the door again. She hated this. Once again the what if's started floating her mind.
She arrived almost at the same time as Esposito and Ryan. She was focused like every time she was about to enter a crime scene. This one was as creepy as the previous and unmistakeable linked to the "Fisk" case. The woman lay nude on her dining room table but was covered head-to-toe with rose petals. On her eyes were sunflowers. Kate took a closer look.
"Who are you?"
Her voice was deep and calm.
"Alison Tisdale. 24. Grand student at NYU, part of the Social work program."
"She was a Social Worker and cold effort a place like this?"
"Her daddy is Harrison Tisdale." Esposito explained.
"She knew her killer. There are no sign of struggle."
In this moment Lanie came through the door.
"He even brought her flowers. Who says romance is dead?"
"I do. Every Saturday night,when-" she stopped.
Kate almost had slipped out her most guarded secret.
Although the romance in Rick and her live was not dead their daughter kept them busy lately and there was not that much time left for romance anymore.
But for nothing in the world she would change it.
"A lip stick would not hurt." Lanie stopped her train of thoughts.
With another look at the body she suddenly knew where she saw it before.
Rick´s books. This was `Flowers for your grave´ and the other was...
Oh lord, this case was going to involve her husband. They had to bring him in. Hopefully he was not in any danger. Those thoughts made her stomach turn.
Kate heard herself talking, her voice seemed to not to belong to her anymore
After she explained that there was a connection between books and the case, the detective told her team members she would bring the author in.
In silence they headed over to the venue of the bookparty. Kate told her colleagues to wait in the car. That they couldn't risk to tip off the press.
She sights loudly and then entered the building.
Her daughter sat at the bar and Rick was with her. Obviously they were bond was special.
"It´s just I am tired of hiding. I am tired of all those women wanting me and I-You know. It is so boring. Always the same phrases. ´I love your books`, ´You are so very handsome`. It sucks. I wish your mother would-" he could not end his sentence.
They did not see her coming.
"Kate?! What are you doing here." There was a second Alexis thought that her mother had finally came to a sense. A second Rick was truly happy because he had missed her. And a moment where Kate felt completely lost.
"Sorry Babe. I am here for work. We need to ask you a few questions about a murder that took place tonight. Where is Martha?"
"Do not know. Do I have to come with you. Can I say that you are my wife. I didn´t do anything. Am I a suspect?" He was everything in between thrilled, confused and frightened.
"Stop. Stop .Stop. Slow down. Some psychopath copied your books."
She let her eyes roam the room for her mother -in-law. The actress was nowhere to be found." At this particular moment she realised that she wouldn't put her family in harmsway by letting her colleagues, her friends know that she had a family. It felt like it was the complete opposite. They would help to keep them safe.
"Okay, you two come with me. I guess it's time you meet my friends."
Alexis and Rick´s jaw drop open.
"Are you two coming, otherwise my partners might send a SWAT Team to have them save me."
