A Mother's Love is a crossover between The Dresden Files and Harry Potter. It takes place after Cold Days and midway through Deathly Hallows. Yes I know it's not actually possible this is my story. Artistic licence so to speak.

All know and recognisable characters and places, magic etc are the rightful property of Mr Jim Butcher and Ms J. . I own nothing but this crazy idea.

I will make alterations and repairs when people point out glaring errors, as I am unbeta'd and appreciate the feedback.

Serious Conversations

Part 2

Dresden's Point of View

Kingsley's brutal murder cast a pall over the Keep. We had no time to grieve him though, and we gathered everyone in for a brief meeting. We were ready to take the school, the refuges we could reach were secured and our plans had been laid for hitting Azkaban and the Muggle-born Camps. I was going to Azkaban on the theory that my fire magic and the power of the Winter Knight would defeat the Dementors. Molly was being kept as far from Dementors as was possible, her talents would not gel well with them.

We'd be taking a full team of Wizards, all who could do the Patronus spell to back up our extraction team, Myself, Thomas and Fred. The key to everything would be doing everything under the radar. Once the Carrow's and other wanna-be Death Eaters were out of the Castle proper Snape would be able to have the Mark removed and would truly be free.

Molly and I had helped young Harry to shield his mind, he took to our way of magic quicker then he'd taken to Occlumency. His defences were now quite impressive, and in some places, downright scary. His memory Basilisk truly was a terrifying guardian. Voldemort was in for a nasty shock if he entered Harry's mind again.

Pulling myself out of my thoughts I surveyed the room. Everywhere I looked there was a bright red hair with only a smattering of blonde, brown and black. These people all sat quietly, lost in introspection after the death of a capable friend. Knowing the strength of their convictions I knew they all wanted revenge. However I had to keep them focussed on the end game.

"Alright everyone, listen up. The quicker we were able to take Hogwarts and free the Muggle-borns the quicker we have an actual army. We can't fight the Death Eater's as we are, a mere handful of rebels. Yes we have several key advantages over the enemy but they still outnumber us and are all quite ruthless. As Kingsley's murder has shown us. The Dark Lord is a insane sorcerer with some serious power. He's spent years gathering knowledge of the dark arts. He's a skilled necromancer and an obvious master of the Darkest Magics. We would call him a Warlock and he would be beheaded without hesitation by any Warden he came across in my world. He is not to be take lightly. Given what we know of the Death eaters we can assume he's trained them to be just as lethal. We know he has taken Azkaban, and the Dementors have flocked to him. He is aligning himself with the Werewolves and Vampires, giants, trolls and all other manner of Dark Creatures. Teams of Dark Wizards have been seen entering Britain, he has been recruiting so we need to too.

The first step in that is to free as many of the Muggle-borns as we can. They have more reason to fight then anyone else. Anyone of age can join us later at Hogwarts, the rest will stay with their families in the safe houses." I paused. A sea of serious faces looked back at me.

"Getting the kids out of Hogwarts and freeing the Muggle-borns is going to take skill and speed. You will have to be ready to be ruthless. This is war. No Unforgivables, but no holds barred people. Stunning the enemy isn't enough, they can be revived and be straight back into the fight. I don't want to see the brutality shown to Kingsley, but do not hesitate to put them down HARD. These are Death Eaters. They WILL kill you." I made sure I had all their attention. "So to prepare you for what you'll face fighting Death Eaters, Mr Snape is taking you all outside for a crash course in their style of fighting. Later I'm going to show you all some of my best offensive spells and a couple of my favourite shields. Luna, you will be working with Molly, she thinks you have quite the talent for illusions. You all have your shield bracelets and emergency Portkeys. Once we have secured Hogwarts, teams will hit the Camps and Azkaban. Hopefully by the time the Death Eaters organise we'll be back inside Hogwarts." There was a quiet rumble of agreement around the room and I looked to the twins. "Well you two? Anything to report?"

The twins usually moved as one, but this time Fred stepped up and levatated a box onto the table. He stuck his arm in, further then seemed possible, and withdrew what looked just like a muggle grenade, but bright purple. The Initials WWW were emblazoned in gold across the pin cap.

"We call these Karr-booms. For Ms Murphy. They're based on her muggle weapon; the Grenade." explained George. "We've filled them with all kinds of things, Stinksap, Devil's Snare, Bubotuber Pus, Basilisk Venom, different types of fire and some truly nasty potions Professor Snape has made for us. Some of those things are really dangerous so their under a stasis spell, until you pull the pin so to speak. Their spelled to home in on their target. Throw carefully. We had to take apart a couple of Bludgers to get the spell right." Putting the Karr-boom carefully back, Fred next extracted a simple length of silvery rope. At either end were plain silver crosses. Fred lay it out on the table and spread it out. The rope was nearly two metres long and gleamed in the light.

"Now this was Remus's brainchild. The Moons Bane. The Blacks and the Potter's had a lot of stuff in their attics and basements, not just their vaults. We found a whole heap of pure silver thread in one of the Black vaults. We had the ropes made with unicorn hair, Acromantula silk, the silver, and a potion with blessed silver, holy water, garlic, mercury and aconite components. Then once we had these woven together Bob helped us with the rune work. If these are laid out on the ground they will fade into the dirt. They won't react to a normal wizard or witch or to a muggle if they walk over them. However if a Death Eater, Werewolf or Vampire even steps over one it will wrap them up in a split second and render them helpless. They can only be undone with our counter-spell, which, incidentally, is "LUMOS Release!" George grinned. So did I, I had had a similar rope at home but it had only worked tied to my threshold. Good old Bob. "So even if a Death Eater learns it they will still just kill the vampire or werewolf." He tilted his head, "We also have a non-lethal release command too, but it's touch activated. So anyone who surrenders or is actually a friendly being forced doesn't die." The rope vanished into the box again and Fred passed him a long thick piece of what looked like a folded hairy rope. He expanded it partially on the table, revealing what looked like an ordinary bear trap, if bear traps were covered in thick black hair and sprouted sharp claws and teeth everywhere. It was a truly unpleasant looking thing, but oddly cute at the same time, maybe it was the long eyelashes and deep purple eyes.

"The muggles use something like these to catch bears." he patted the trap with his hand and it expanded, taking up most of the kitchen table and then some. It wriggled and seemed to sigh. A faint hum coming from it. "With a lot of help from magic, we managed to cross-breed these little guys, and they are going to defend the walls and hidden passageways. Like the Moons Bane they have been treated with the same potion and they expand or shrink depending on the mass of whatever it's caught. They are likewise invisible and will only act upon the presence of Dark Creatures or Dark Magic." He patted the trap and I was stunned to see two tiny eyes blink open and look up at him with obvious adoration. "Their kinda sweet, if they know your one of the good guys." he said as the trap nudged his hand, as if asking for another pat. It hummed again and shrunk back down to it's smallest size. Fred placed it back in the box and pulled out a flat square of glass. He set it on the floor and looked up. "Anyone want to volunteer to demonstrate?" he asked cheekily. No way was I putting my hand up. "Freeze Squares. Step on it and your petrified, but unlike the spell, the counter spell won't work. The password for these is "Open Sesame". He grinned, "I don't think the Purebloods will guess it." I laughed. The boys were quick. One tap of his wand made the square vanish. One more tap and it reappeared. The square too disappeared into the box. George then extracted what looked like a miniature tac vest. It was hung with an astounding array of small but lethal weapons. Fred took it and yelled "Dobby!"

The over-excited elf appeared with a soft pop. "Yous called Dobby Mr Fred Twinsie?" everyone laughed. Since bonding with Harry it was obvious that Dobby was blossoming, as was the romance between him and Winky.

"Indeed I did oh esteemed compatriot. Are you ready for your demonstration?"

"Dobby is ready." the little elf bounced in excitement.

"Your story about Toot and his army inspired us Harry, there are very few elves who would do well under the Dark Lord's regime, they don't want him to have power any more then we do. So to that end Dobby has been recruiting. He has a small army of his own now, they have been training with the goblins and are quite fierce fighters. To protect them, and to give them some advantages we designed these tac vests. They are impervious, and have runes of protection and invisibility on them courtesy of Bob. They waterproof and feather-light.. that took some tweaking." Dobby glared.

"Dobby almost floated away!"

"Yes and we.." said George

"Said we were very.." said Fred

"Very Sorry about that." said George. Honestly their twin-speak nearly gave me a headache.

"And for laughing.. you didn't need to reverse our feet."

Everyone howled with laughter, Dobby looked smug. "Yous should help.. not laugh at Dobby."

Dobby then slipped into the vest, buckled it up and stood straight. He pressed a finger to one spot and disappeared. A second later he re-appeared and Fred threw a Stunner at him. It bounced off the little Elf and he grinned, snapped his fingers and a silver blade was sent spinning into George's shield. We all clapped and I laughed. "If you could fly the Death Eaters wouldn't know what hit them." Dobby paused, then he grinned, a scary manic grin, exactly like the ones on Fred and George's faces. "We thoughts of that Mr Winter Knight Sir." and he snapped long bony fingers.

A small broom, with a saddle and an oddly bulbous ball beneath it, shot into the room and Harry blinked. "Hey is that my old kiddie training broom? The one I gave you Dobby?" Dobby grinned and waggled his ears with happiness. "Yes Master Harry Potter Sir! The Twinsies made it better!" I gulped. The Twins, and Bob were a scary combination.

"We sure did Dobby. Harry; Dobby could keep up with you on a Firebolt now, House Elf magic is awesome! That attachment, Peruvian Instant Darkness powder and a combination of itching and sneezing powder." Fred grinned and held up a packet of purple and gold sweets, "Our very own antidote/defence against our own creation. We have ten of these made up, ten elf volunteers, all great fliers and they are all ready to help us get the captives away and to do as much damage to any Death Eater they can." George held up a bag of brightly coloured silk scarves. "Portkeys. Colour keyed to specific receiving rooms. Give blue ones to children and non-combatants and their gone, out of harms way, and out from under our feet. Drop yellow ones on the injured, they will be port-keyed to safety and help. The Black ones send their recipients to the dungeons beneath Hogwarts.. Snape has made them very... cosy"

"What do the red ones do?" asked Hermione. "The red ones will take you back to a Rally Point for weapons, water or minor first aid. They will also let us add to our fighters." He held it up. "Twist it around your hand, squeeze and you will be taken to your allies. They activate automatically if you are severely injured. Every fighter is going to have several of these"

I grinned. This might actually work. For once I had a full team of smart people helping me.. I might not get beat up.
