Chapter 2 - Impossible
… … … … … … … … … … …
Kagome screamed as loud and as high her voice can and tried to get away from the person who grabbed her ankle but to no avail because their grip was too tight.
"Let me go!"
She fell flat on her bottom and kicked vigorously at the person who grabbed her.
But suddenly she stopped as she saw that the person holding her ankle was leaned on the wall of the shrine is a man covered in sweat, blood and bruises.
The inner medic in her was alert as she cautiously went near this man and analysed him.
From the looks of it he also has a few burns on his arm, a broken rib, a gash on his face, and wounds on his shoulder and legs that can be seen because it had blood seeping out of his clothes. Upon closer inspection, his breathing was laboured and Kagome wasted no time as she placed her hands on the man's chest and healed him.
It came as a surprise for her when she learned that the reason for his laboured breathing was because of a complication in his lungs and not from the wounds he sustained.
He was lucky to be alive, and make it out here. But he was even luckier that it was she, a medic who found her.
Looking at his clothes and the injuries that he had, he must be a shinobi. She inspected his forehead protector and looked at the symbol etched on it, and was trying to remember what village it was but to no avail. What she found more interesting was the slash mark on the middle of that symbol. It must have been a pretty big fight, or this person may have been pretty important if he has to sustain these kind of wounds.
Wondering what happened, she stopped and reminded herself that she should not get herself involved with this as it will only bring nothing but trouble.
Unlike some villagers, she doesn't feel the need to involve herself or to keep herself informed of the different villages in this new world that she is living in.
Since, she doesn't want to involve herself in any kind of conflict she stopped healing the major wounds and the complication in this man's lungs.
She stood up and dusted her clothes, ready to leave.
Thump.
But stopped herself as she felt that familiar beat again.
Strange as her chest didn't feel tight as it did this morning.
Realization hit her hard when she squinted her eyes at the man and saw it.
That small glint of light at the man's chest.
The Shikon Jewel.
…
Pacing around in her room was not helping her.
Running in the rain was also not helping her.
Old Lady Kaede is no longer here to guide her, so she can only rely on herself this time.
"It's impossible," Kagome muttered, the memory still fresh on her mind when they defeated Naraku and wish for the Shikon Jewel to disappear.
How is it possible that the Shikon Jewel is here after all these years, did it follow her? Does this mean that Naraku is alive once again?
Kagome grabbed all her medical supplies, bandages and food that she could find in her home, put it all inside her bag and went back to the source of all her questions once again.
…
The man was still leaned on the wall, but his breathing was much better.
She started the fire that she supposed to start a while ago, and kneeled near the man. She grabbed a wet towel and started to wipe the sweat and blood from his face.
The man was quite good looking, jet black hair falling across his light skinned face, his jaw was firm and strong, and a pointed nose. He's not just good looking, but he was handsome. Also his hair was also much smoother than hers to which she felt unfair.
His built was lean, his arms looked strong from years of training as a shinobi perhaps, and she could see that if they were to stand up next to each other, this man would be much taller compared to her by a foot.
Kagome blushed, and scolded herself for ogling this man who she has just met today.
But it's nice to feel like an in love schoolgirl every once in a while.
…
It had been days since she met and healed that stranger in the shrine.
For some reason, since then he has never woken up.
Little by little she has transformed the shrine into a little make-shift house, there's fire, a pot where she would cook some porridge for him to eat to which strangely enough he eats and swallow, some bandages and towel that she used to heal him. She has also brought some futon and laid him down on it.
Compared to his state before, he looked a lot better. His injuries have healed, and because she used some of her spiritual energy his lungs is also healing quite nicely.
Inwardly, she was debating if this is a fairy-tale story to which her prince will only wake with a kiss. She wouldn't mind kissing this handsome stranger.
Mentally slapping herself, she reminded herself that the only reason that she was keeping him was because of the Shikon Jewel. She wants to know how he even got it in the first place.
Is it possible that the Shikon Jewel revived him?
Is he supposed to be dead?
But he doesn't look or smell dead unlike all the other resurrected creatures she encountered in the Feudal Era.
So many questions are running through her head right now and she could only stare at the peaceful expression on his face as he slept calmly.
…
Days passed and eventually turned into weeks.
But the man still showed no signs of waking up.
Kagome spent most of her idle time in the shrine with this stranger to the point where she would even sleep in the shrine too.
To no avail, the weeks turned into a month, still the man showed no sign of waking up.
… … … … … … … … … … …
I know, I am terrible for leaving you with a cliff hanger like this. Hahaha. But tune in because there is more!
