I didn't speak to Zane for the rest of the day, but my brother Adam did catch me staring at Zane after school.
"What you looking at, man?" Adam asked.
I shook my head and looked at Adam. "Nothing."
"So where's Alli?" Adam asked.
"Alli? Oh, um, yeah we broke up." I replied. "Listen, Adam, I'm not walking home with you tonight. I've gotta meet up with someone."
"Girl of the week?"
"No, man. Just a friend. A friend I maybe sort of like."
"Whatever man, see you at home." Adam made his way back over to his friends, and I walked over to Zane.
"Hey Zane." I said casually. "Want to walk to the Dot together?"
"You sure that won't mess up your perfect girl-crazy reputation?" He asked.
"To hell with my reputation."
We walked off together, and I noticed Owen was looking at us from the school steps, but I didn't care. I'd deal with him later.
"So.. you and Riley huh. You're a couple, right?"
"On and off yeah. Riley can be.." He trailed off.
"He can be what?" I asked.
"Nothing. I don't think you're the person I should talk to about relationships."
"Oh come on." I said.
"Everyone knows you're a womanizer. Or maybe you're over compensating."
"Are you trying to say I have a small pe-"
Zane cut me off, looking at me seriously. "No. I don't mean that. You're such a dumb jock sometimes."
"I was just joking. But what did you mean?"
"I mean.. well maybe it's the same thing as what Riley did. He dated girls to make sure people wouldn't think he's gay."
"Are you just hoping I'll turn out gay because you like me?" I asked.
He gave me another serious look. God he was cute. I knew then, that I didn't care if I was bisexual or just curious, but I just wanted him to kiss me.
Should I do it? If I don't do it, he'll never know I like him.. but if I do it, there's no turning back. I tried to decide whether kissing him was a good idea or not. I stood closer, ready to kiss him.
"Zane?" Someone called.
Dammit. Moment over.
