Summary: Fai's hiding something that could throw the samurai's life upside down. Too scared to tell him, the wizard must face the consequences to his actions. Will their relationship remain the same after this?

** 8th month **
It was a sunny afternoon and the ninja wasn't on duty. Princess Tomoyo had made sure that he was to stay by his lover at all times, especially since the incident a month ago. She didn't want her blond friend to overwork himself, so she had kindly instructed the soon to be Kuro-papa to become his slave until she needed him once again. Things seemed to have died off in the Oni world which was great news for the both of them. His task was quite simple: make sure that the damned wizard didn't hurt himself or the child he was bearing.
The larger man snapped out of his daydreams when he heard a wail coming from the bathroom. The plaintive cry was one he had been hearing more and more of in the recent week.
"Oy, Fai?" the ninja barked, annoyed that he'd have to check up on him for the millionth time.
Without wasting another second and of course, not forgetting to curse under his breath, Kurogane went to see what the source of the problem could possibly be this time. As he appeared under the frame of the door, he was greeted by an undressed Fai moaning as he was squeezing the sides of his stomach. This made the black haired man's heart skip a beat as he was casually glancing at the beautiful form in front of him. However, these thoughts stopped when the tear-stricken face turned in his direction.
"Whhaaa! Don't look at me!" Fai wailed as he tried to shut the door in the process.
Not being quick enough for the ninja's reflex, he was stopped as the bigger man put his weight again the door to keep it open. You're not getting away with that as easily as you think you are wizard.
Ticked off by his behaviour, Kurogane asked, "And why would I not look at you?"
"'Cause I look like a whale. And the shirts we bought two weeks ago don't even fit me anymore!~"
Shit it's that stupid insecurity the book warned me about. Don't screw it up Kurogane or you'll dig yourself a whole and end up sleeping on the tatami floors again tonight.
"Look, Fai, you look fine. You're expecting a baby, it's normal and you still look gorgeous to me," Kurogane managed to say under his breath while blushing furiously and making his way towards his lover.
He tightly wrapped his arms around the blue eyed man and pulled him in for an embrace. The ninja made sure to be gentle and not apply any pressure to the mage's protruding stomach. Fai sniffled a couple more time and was able to pull himself together. Phew, I think that was pretty well executed if you ask me! Good job Kuro!
The shorter man's belly growled and Fai blushed in embarrassment. He was just now realizing in what kind of situation he had put himself in. He attempted once more to tie the gorgeous purple and gold yukata but the garment was simply too small. The blond mage sighed and gave his lover big puppy eyes.
"Look, I know it sucks. But look at it this way, you don't have much longer and the outcome will be even better than you've imagined. We'll look for something for you to put on and we'll make breakfast," The ninja said, looking into the blue orbs of his lover while slightly smiling. I'm becoming too soft hearted. Help! What's happening to me? This man is making me turn into mush!
Fai nodded and waddled out of the room awkwardly. His stomach was enormous and it was taking an massive toll on his small frame. The belly bulged out so far that the once lanky man could no longer see beneath him. He often found himself hitting things over with his stomach and having difficulties accomplishing everyday tasks. I want you to be with us soon aka-chan (baby). You're being really hard on daddy and you're making me look like a fat cow.
Having walked across the hallway was definitely challenging enough for Fai so he sat down on the bed to rest. Kurogane really didn't like how he couldn't do anything to relieve him of his pain. He sat down beside him and extended his arm to stroke the now stretched out skin. You're really trying to hurt your daddy in there huh? Kicking all hard like that inside of him! Give him a break once in a while will ya?
The wizard smiled at how affectionate his lover now was. It really relieved him as he was the complete opposite of when they had first met. But I knew at that moment that we were destined for each other. Maybe this lil' babe doesn't have to be the last. I'd love to see lots of tiny Kuroganes running around the house. Mini clones of Kuro-papa!
Kurogane pushed himself off the bed and started rummaging in his lover's drawers. There was so many colours and patterns to choose from it was ridiculous. But the goal here was to find something that actually fit. After about 5 minutes, he had managed to find his old Celes coat that would still fit around his waist. Good enough.
The black haired man admired the plump figure in front of him for one last time before his partner got dressed. He simply adored everything about that damned wizard. That ass though. Ever since he got pregnant, it has been growing quite nicely. Not even realizing it, the man's penis started to erect. Shit. Hide that. Not appropriate Kuro! Kurogane managed to shake it off and acted as if nothing happened when he heard a knock at the door.
The taller man made his way to the entrance door while being followed by the waddling mage. He was greeted by a fellow ninja that seemed quite concerned.
"Mr. Kurogane?" the young man asked not knowing exactly who he had come to see.
"Yeah that's me," replied the black haired man in a gruff tone.
"Princess Tomoyo sent me over to let you know that she needs you to join the fighting troops in the east again. The numbers of Oni are increasing and there doesn't seem to be an end to them. She says that she wants you to join us today and that we are to give you more information on our way to our destination," he explained nervously.
Kurogane looked back at his pregnant lover who was clearly on the verge of tears. The ninja turned his body towards him. He leaned down to kiss him on the lips and held him tight for a few seconds.
"Don't worry Fai, I'll be fine. This way, I can keep you safe. I should be back soon. I promise. I know that's not what Tomoyo had told us but shit happens right?"
Fai simply looked down and moved aside so Kurogane could grab his ninja gear. The man followed his new crew member and then hightailed on his way towards town.
The blond man was left alone to drown in his thoughts once more. His stomach growled furiously and the wizard figured it was about time he gave something to eat to the baby. He rubbed his stomach affectionately. 'Sometimes I wish your dad wasn't this strong because he always leaves me to help out others. But it's that big heart of his that I fell for'Fai thought while directing the message to the form of life that was growing inside him.
**That same night**
Kurogane opened the door slowly, praying it wouldn't creek. He didn't want to wake up his lover that was probably sleeping. He took off his gear and placed it on their hanger by the door. The muscled man made his way towards the living room where he realised Fai was sprawled under the heated kotatsu. He spent a couple minutes staring at the peaceful figure snoring softly before he had the heart to wake him up and give him the present he had brought.
He nudged the blue eyed man and proceeded to hide the small gift behind his back. The mage started stirring and beamed when he noticed that Kurogane had returned. As he pushed himself up and brushed the long hair out of his face, he seemed to have noticed that the black haired man was hiding something from him.
Curious and impatient, he asked, "What's behind your back?"
Knowing that his cover was blown, he pulled his arm back in front of him and presented the little ball of fur to Fai. It was squirming around in his hand as it had awakened from its sleep too. The little orange and white dog opened it's big eyes and wagged its tail when it saw Fai.
"A.. dog!" Fai squealed, grabbing it out of his lover's hands as he began to stroke its little head. "The tiny thing must only be a couple of months old."
"Yeah.. I figured he'd make a good companion."
"What do you mean?" Fai asked, puzzled.
"Tomoyo instructed me to leave early in the mornings and return daily to go fight these things. She's right about there being more than ever and they're approaching here at a fast pace. The fact that they had stopped appearing for a while was the quietness before the storm. I want to protect this village but I mostly want to protect you guys. So, I figured you'd be less lonely if I brought you a friend."
Fai, not sure what to say replied, "But I'm so close to the date and.. and.. I want you here with me."
"I know that Fai. Trust me, if I had it my way, I'd stay with you forever without ever seeing anyone else. But, the world's a cruel place. Besides, this little guy's village was entirely destroyed. He needed a new home." Kurogane said with a hint of sadness in his voice.
Knowing it was useless to continue whining, Fai decided to forget about it. Instead, he picked up the dog and inspected him carefully.
"You're going to be called Momo because you're round and orange like a peach."
Kurogane snickered as he got up to find a box and blanket to put the small animal in. He figured he had to be on his best behaviour as the mage wasn't in the most stable of states. Once he had installed the little sleeping area by their bed, he invited the two to come join in the room.
**The next day**
The wizard woke up to the sound of high pitched barking. Confused on what was happening, he got up as quickly as a pregnant man could. There he noticed his little furry friend was getting impatient and wanted to get out of his box. Maybe he's hungry?
After he fed the ball of fur, Fai let him outside on a leash. Figuring they didn't have all the necessary items to take care of Momo-kun, he decided that a little trip down town couldn't hurt. What could go wrong? I don't need much and I do need to do a little exercise. I've also been eating way to many sweets lately and my waist is expanding too much, even for someone pregnant. No longer having any clothes that fit him that were clean, he wore Kurogane's garments and took the puppy with him.
They spent an afternoon shopping for a collar and an actual leash that wasn't an old rope. He also managed to find a soft blue dog bed along with food and toys for the pet. Without wasting more time, they headed back home so the blond haired man could start preparing supper for his beloved Kurogane.
** Later that night, when Kurogane had returned from duty**
Kurogane was extremly glad that the mage wasn't too upset with him. He was also glad that Fai had taken a liking to Momo-kun. I did good. He bent down to pet the little creature as it tried to nibble at his fingers. He noticed the green and white collar that was adorning his neck. Guess Fai decided to go shopping for the little guy. That's when the bigger man noticed how flooded the living room floor was with squeaky toys and balls. He sighed while smirking and went back to helping the mage set up the dinner table.
Once the food was ready they filled up Momo's bowl with the newly bought dog food so he didn't disturb them during their supper.
"How was work?" Fai asked in between mouthfuls.
"Good. I've met a bunch of new friends and we really get along. You remember that Yamamoto guy? He's on my crew too."
"I'm glad to hear!"
"Yeah he's really great! I missed talking to him so much. It brings back so many memories, y'know?"
Both men ate the rest of their dinner in silence. Kurogane cleaned everything up and Fai tended to the dog's needs. He had a big smile plastered on his face.
** A couple of weeks later**
Fai was sitting on the couch with his face in his hands. The puppy was curled up beside him sleeping peacefully. The wizard was crying at the fact that Kurogane has started come home later than usual and all he ever talked about was that Yamamoto guy. All of his dinner table stories included him and he would never forget to add how great he was. He had enough. Tonight was the night he was going to confront him about it.
Not even a couple of minutes later, the man clad and black arrived home. As he was taking off his armour, Fai got up off the couch and stomped towards him. Surprised by the welcoming of his boyfriend, Kurogane turned around. He came to realise that tears were flowing down the once lanky man's face.
"Hey Fai? What happened?"
" You happened, you big dummy! You don't even love me anymore!"
Taken off guard by the comment, Kurogane replied, "What do you mean I don't love you anymore?"
"Because… because all you even talk about is how great that Yamamoto is and how he's the best friend you've ever had. You know what, why don't you have sex with that man and get him pregnant to?" Fai snapped angrily as he was about to turn around and go shut himself in their room.
"Because I spend every day with these people not because I have a choice. And you know what? Yamamoto is actually cheerful and doesn't bring me down like you do! If you think so lowly of me, then forget it. It's like you don't even trust me anymore. Besides, I still do love you even if you accuse me of cheating, " Kurogane barked back angrily.
Fai wobbled to their room while being followed by the little dog. He shut the door behind him and let his body slump on the bed. Maybe he's right? I am too cranky lately and I don't do anything but complain. The man fell asleep and didn't wake up until the next morning.
He awoke with a letter beside his pillow.
Good morning Fai
I was told in the middle of the night that I was being sent further than last time in order to stop the attacks. I'm not returning home like I was for the past month. Tomoyo says she doesn't know how long we'll be gone for this time but she advised me that I should be back before the birth of our kid.
Look I'm really sorry for last night, I hope you forgive me. I wasn't thinking straight and don't have an excuse for my behaviour. You're pregnant and I should have taken that in consideration. I'm really worried about your well-being so Tomoyo promised me she'd check up on you daily and keep you company too. It was our agreement because I didn't want you to stay alone with the dog.
I hope you forgive me
Kurogane.
Fai was taken aback and didn't know what to say. He simply went back to sleep and hoped that this was only a bad dream.
Hey I'm actually back everyone. And the best part is that the next few chapters are actually written so when I get enough reviews I can post them right away and not have to wait.
I'm sorry forgive me for being a terrible writer and not continuing this regularly. I didn't forget about it, I just procrastinate and tonight, the idea for the rest of the fanfiction just popped in my head. Please don't kill me! It also doesn't help that I'm leaving for Tokyo in 6 months so yay! I've learned that that's actually the location in which I'm going to live so woohoo!
