When Mulder returned home, he was happy to have been the one to break the news to Scully regarding getting temporary custody of William. It was going to be a long haul, but it was a start.
Though William was still going through a lot of grief with losing his adoptive family, he knew this was where he belonged, with the ones who could protect him. The case surrounding his adoptive parents death was still open, with Doggett and Reyes being the lead task force investigators. With their help, they had gotten William some new things along with whatever they were able to salvage from the home they deserted.
At this point, though the circumstances still unknown surrounding the death of the adoptive parents, Scully couldn't have been happier that their family would now be complete once her baby made its entrance into the world. Their lives were still in danger, and she feared for the future of her children, but she was confident they could stop whatever impending danger awaited them.
"What are you thinking about?" Mulder asked on the other side of Scully, spooning her closer to him.
"Just that everything seems so perfect now and I'm wondering when that will come to an end."
He gently rubbed her belly, happy to have his family back. "Well, there's no denying the inevitable, but I'm confident we have the power to stop what's coming."
"I hope you're right."
"You already know I want to believe, Scully."

A/N: okay, so I just had to finish this up with another story I am working on leading up to the events of the revival in January 2016. I have too many open ended stories. I thought this was a nice closure for them for now. :)
