Chapter 29 The Last Angle Part 2
All around the world people did one of two things, either they looked up into the sky and watched the descending objects which where in fact N-Jammers or they began to panic. Cities broke out into riots, as whole land masses went black as the N-jammers went into effect shutting down the Nuclear power plants around the world. Flying above the clouds watching the descending N-jammers was Wing Angle with Heero Yuy at the controls. He was double-checking his instruments as he prepared to make the jump from earth to space. Thanks to its powerful engines, Wing Angel was the only mobile suit that could get to Space on its own without the need of a booster pack. His mind was not on his checklist instead he was watching the descending warheads. Finally, he finished the last of his checklist and strapped on his helmet before moving onto the last thing he needed to do.
Like most people on Earth President Une was watching the falling skies, she wished she could have gotten reports about what was going on around the world but the satellites where destroyed by Angel Squadron.
"President Une, we have a video call for you." said her main as she handed the small computer pad to her president. She took the pad and was greeted by the sight of Heero Yuy looking at her.
"Heero, looks like you have won." said Lady Une
"No, no one won." said Heero as the screen split up as the other Gundam pilot's faces appeared in small boxes.
"Heero this is not over, we will win in the end," said Wufei as Heero rolled his eyes at the threat.
"I think not," said Heero "The N-Jammers will keep the power off on Earth and destroyed satellites filling space with almost impassable spy junk you will be cut off for months."
"Well your trapped on Earth too Heero." countered Wufei
"Wing Angle is small enough and is shielded so I will have no problem flying around all the junk." Explained Heero
"Doesn't help us Heero, I will not be able to see my child when he or she is born." stated Duo with great sadness in his voice. "Quatre is cut off from Dorothy and countless other families will be separated for an untold amount of time."
"Well for you all if you want there is a transport shuttle that I had the Phantoms leave for you at the following coordinates." Said Heero as he broadcast the coordinates to a small abounded Earth Alliance base in the middle of the African Desert. "It can transport you and your gundams up to space, but it is a one way trip, once in space the flight computers will destroy themselves along with the shielding technology. You can be there for you child's birth Duo."
Duo did not know what to say as he felt like crying knowing that he could be with his wife at the birth of their first born child.
"That doesn't help anyone else on Earth," said Trowa "I am not leaving until everyone else can."
"And that will be impossible; you said each of the Jammers has a nuclear warhead on it." Said President Une "And if we mess with them they will explode and plunge the world into nuclear winter."
"And they will shut off in a month." added Heero as the other blinked. "You can claim that you found a way to deactivate them, it should allow you to regain control of the world and rebuild a world."
"Why would you do that?" inquired Quatre
"This may not be my home anymore but I still want to protect it and this is the only way." explained Heero calmly "You can use the people's rage against us to reform."
"Why would you want that?" inquired Trowa "We could reform and come at you."
"True, but we will be watching and with a single push of a button we could plunge the world into nuclear winter." Stated Heero hoping that would not happen.
"We will find your N-Jammers and disable them," said Wufei
"You really think I haven't thought of that?" inquired Heero but he didn't get Wufei time to answer "Even if you were to get to them and you can't easily get to them, they are linked together if too many go off line the nukes will go off."
"What do you mean we can't get to them?" inquired Duo "They are landing all over the world."
"Yes, in the water." countered Heero "None of them will make landfall, the addition of the water makes it very hard for you to get to them."
"If they are landing in the water, then the water will take the blasts of a nuke," said Wufei "You are missing an attempt to cause any real harm by not dropping them in cities."
"Yes, that would be true of a single nuke." confirmed Heero "But with the amount we are dropping on Earth goes off it would vaporize a third of the ocean water."
"And that would be more than enough." said Quatre as he understood Heero's plan. If the nukes go off then the heat would vaporize all the water around it. That water vaper would rise up into the atmosphere and come down in the form of radiative rainfall. That on top with the other effects from the blast, killing the fish and poising the water would plunge the world into a nuclear winter. The upside was if one of them did go off by accident then it would not kill as many people if it went off on land.
For a moment, no one said anything as Heero closed his eyes for a moment.
"Goodbye." Said Heero as he reached up and turned off the communication link. With that done he pushed Wing Angel's engines to their max, this caused him to shot up into the sky. As Heero felt the weightless of space wash over him he turned his eyes toward three small photos attached to his flight control's there one of him and his old team gathered on Peacemillion during the last war. Beside that was the photo of him and most of Angel Squadron right before the last battle of the Second Bloody Valine War. The last phot was the one, which meant the most to him; it was the photo of Luna and himself on their wedding day.
He smiled as he lifted his head away from the photos and looked up to where the three ships of the Angel Squadron were floating in a V formation. There in the front was the Archangel with the Minerva and the Eternal on either side, he could see his fellow gundam pilots forming an outer defense line. He had to dodge some of the space junk and his shield was protecting him from the smaller items and the extra radiation from the recently exploded nukes. Sitting in the middle of the area was the Preventer Space Craft Peacecraft. Heero's hands ran across the control panel as the last radio message to the brand new ship was received. The moment the onboard computer got Heero's message multiple charges began going off all over the ship, the powerful explosion sent even more pieces of space junk around Earth.
"Welcome back Heero." said Kira as Heero flew up to the Strike Freedom.
"Everything ready?" inquired Heero
"Yes, you're the last everyone is off world and all stations are ready," confirmed Athrun as the last member of the legendary Three flew up to him.
"Alright time to go home." said Heero as everyone nodded their heads in agreement. Athrun and Kira flew ahead of Heero turning around and backing up into the Archangle's duel hangers. This left Heero out in space alone for a moment; he turned his gaze back to Earth.
"Admiral Yuy the hanger is open" came a voice over the radio, but Heero did not move.
"Admiral Yuy is something wrong?" inquired the same voice
"Take all the time you need Heero." said his wife's voice as Heero lowered his head before tapping the controls on his suit. With a rush of air escaping the cockpit door opened to space and Heero stood up and stood in the void of space looking at this version of Earth for the last time with his own eyes.
"Goodbye." said Heero to himself as he reached into a pouch on his spacesuits belt and pulled out an old photo, he tossed it into space before turning back around. Wing Angle backed into the Archangel as the old signed photo of Relena Peacecraft turned around in space. The three ships did not wait long before disappearing in flashes of light. They reappeared seconds later over another version of Earth.
"Angel Squadron has returned." said a voice over the Zaft communication channel.
"This is Chairwoman Lacus Yamato we have some refugees to take care of and they need transport at once." ordered Lacus from the bridge of the Minerva.
Onboard the Archangel Heero leaned against the rails of the hanger just looking at Wing Angel which sat in its position in the hanger.
"You doing ok Heero?" inquired his wife as she joined him on the rail. Down below them shuttles had already started to arrive to transport the civilian refugees from that other version of Earth.
"I am strangely ok, but I wish he hadn't come to that," said Heero with a slight smile "I think it time that both of us take some time off."
"No issue here." said Luna as she wondered if this was the right time to bring it up or not.
"So when can the doctor's fit us in?" inquired Heero as Luna blinked, she had called the doctor about maybe setting up an appointment at the ferity clinic which would take their DNA and create their child. Well almost, the gender would be left in nature's hand.
"Ok, I let almost everything pass like when you somehow put a teddy bear and roses on my nightstand for my birthday without waking me up." started Luna as she placed her hands on her hips and glared at her husband.
"That isn't so hard," said Heero with a small laugh, as he messed with his wife a bit. "Anyone can do that."
"I was using your chest as my pillow when I fell asleep and woke up in the same position. This time you will tell me how did you know?" inquired Luna "Don't make me get it out of you Heero."
"And how do you plan to do that?" inquired Heero as Luna grinned and smiled in that way that made a shiver run down the gundam pilot's spin.
"I know ways of making you talk that you were never trained to stop." Said Luna with a grin, both of them knew what they were talking about.
"And if I don't tell you what happens?" inquired Heero "Will you still do the things to make me talk?"
"Yes, but I will not ask questions while I do it." Explained Luna "Now talk, Heero Yuy."
"Alright, but you will be disappointed." said Heero with a laugh "The Doctor's office called back while you were out on your run and I picked up the phone."
For a moment, Luna just blinked at how her husband found out, before laughing at the mundane way he had found out.
Just over a year later Lunamaria walked out of the bedroom with a hamper full of dirty cloths, as she moved toward the stairs, she saw that the TV was on in Heero's study. She walked in to find that it was actually a report being sent from Heero's desk up onto the larger TV screen. It was a short outline of the latest report from the spy satellite that they had left in Heero's old universe.
There was a report about remembering the death of Relena, Zechs and all the others killed in the brief war. There was also detailed looks of their progress of cleaning up the effects of the final strike against them, mostly it involved cleaning up the space around Earth and putting new satellites up. Then there were some lighthearted moments in the report, Duo and Hilde had a son Victor who was seen in public for the first time. Quatre and Dorothy had announced that they were expecting a child as well.
"Well they didn't wait long." said Luna to herself as she looked toward the massive desk and did not see Heero, she was about to leave when she heard the sound of breathing coming from the wall away from her. She turned and was greeted by a sight that she would remember for the rest of her life. There sound asleep on the couch, his shoes off and his feet actually sticking out a bit was her husband. Now normally Heero was not the sort of person to take afternoon naps, he seemed to run days with only one or two hours of sleep. He was not a lone; sleeping on his chest was their 10-week-old daughter Leiliani Yuy. Like her father she was sound asleep listening to his heartbeat through his green shirt, one of his hands was lying on top of her protecting her.
"You're going to be a great father, Heero." said Luna as she pulled out her phone and took multiple photos of her husband and daughter. "Maybe a little bit overprotective but a great father."
Well this is the end of the story, I Angel Squadron claimed victory but in some ways it was not a win because Heero can't spend time with his friends from his old world. The Wing universe has taken the blunt of the war and is under the threat of total destruction if they attack. Now I would like to thank everyone you read this story. Thanks Wilkins75.
