I sat in my office, working on the chest piece for a suit I was working on when my door opened behind me. "Robin, someone's sending a transmition for you." Raven said her voice as neutral as usual.
I stood up and turned around to see her standing there with her hood covering her face. "Thanks Rae, let's go see who it is."
10:00 JUL 10TH 2013
I walked into the main room and saw a broad cowl covered face on the screen on the other side of the room.
"Robin, I have a mission for you." Batman said, his expression not changing from his usual grimace.
"In case you forgot bats, I decide what missions the Titans and I go on." I said angrily as I walked across the room.
"Well then I suppose you heard about the toxic waste that was being shipped to Jump City and was stolen, boat and all." He said his voice and expression remaining stagnant.
"It sounds like it's in Aqua Man's territory; why not ask him to handle it?" I asked, becoming interested but not willing to show it to the old man.
"Aqua Man is busy dealing with Black Manta." Batman said, still staring blankly at me. "Trust me Robin; I'd only call you if I had to."
The transmition ended and I was standing in the middle of the room, the Titans staring at me in awe, all except Raven who refused to look at me.
"Have you finished that submarine thing you were working on Victor?" I asked, looking at Cyborg.
16:00 JUL 10TH 2013
I sat in my small pod, my feet on the dash and my hands behind my head, waiting for everyone to finish listing off their things. "And your secret weapon is ready to rock." I said confidently.
"Only time you qualify as a secret weapon is after eating a tofu bean burrito." Cyborg said, bursting my bubble entirely.
"Uh, excuse me but, can you breath underwater? uhah." I asked, annoyed at Cyborg for trying to steel my thunder. "Can you be any fish in the see? Didn't think so."
"Beast Boys right, his skills are essential for our mission." Robin said as I cracked my knuckles. "We have to find out what this guy is planning. If it takes forty barrels of toxic waste, I doubt it's environmentally friendly." We reached the tube that lead into the ocean just as the engines began to purr. "Titans, Launch!"
We blasted through the metal tube and out into the see, the force pushing my head back against my seat.
18:00 JUL 10TH 2013 OCEAN
"Ooh, wonderous." Star Fire said as we passed by a school of fish. I quickly sat up from my boredom and looked at her since our pods were across from each other's.
"If you think they're cool, wait until you see me out there kicking but. First I'm going shark." I started before I heard a click inside my headphones. "Hey, what just happened, is this thing on, cut it out."
"Goodness me, I seem to have accidently switched off BB's headphones." Cyborg said in the fakest voice I ever heard.
"Could you do me a favor and accidently leave it off." Raven said in her usual monotone voice.
"Sonar contact; Beast Boy, ready to go?" Robin asked over the headsets, his voice snapping me out of my annoyance.
"Dude, I was born ready." I said, taking off my headphones and unbuckling my seatbelt. "Time to do what I do beast, try not to be jealous." I said, waving to Raven as I exited my pod.
Once out I turned into a hump back whale and swam up so my eye was next to Ravens pod. After winking at her I quickly swam ahead and towards the cliff where once over it there was a boat. I then quickly turned into a hammer head shark to get a better look at the area. I found a whole in the ship's hull and went inside to see if I could find the cargo.
I had circled the entire ship and was about to leave when a light from the T-Sub revealed a red arm that quickly moved away. I quickly followed, trying to keep up with the shadowy figure. I morphed into another fish I'd seen at the aquarium and boosted my speed, trying to catch the guy.
I had turned into a great white and was about to catch the guy when I heard him talk to me. "Your friends are in danger."
"My friends are in what, whoa how did you say that?" I asked, confused that someone was talking to me. "Dude, how did I say that?" I turned around and saw the T-Sub going down and morphed into a Marlin to catch it faster. 'okay, this is it, this my chance to prove I'm the best…' I thought before the shadowy figure swam quickly past me and punched the shadowy figure that was shooting the T-Sub with a trident.
I swam past the two of them fighting and went after the T-Sub that was sinking faster and faster. 'Let pretty boy wrestle, only Beast Boy can save a whole submarine.' I thought as I morphed into a giant squid. 'I got it, I got it, huh.' I thought as two humpback whales swam over me and towards the T-Sub, picking it up on their backs.
'They got it, how come they got it?' I thought angrily, crossing two of my tentacles.
"Because I asked them to." The shadowy figure said, swimming down In front of me and revealing his appearance. He was wearing a belt just like Aqua Mans and the same pants with blue version of his boots. He had a black shirt that had what looked like red fire covering most of it, and finally a pair of blue Atlantian gauntlets. He had a strange tattoo over his eye and his long hair was tied up into a pony tail
"You talk to fish, yeah right." I said, annoyed that he'd stolen my thunder from me.
"I'm talking to you aren't I." He said matter-of-factly as he floated in front of me, a big smirk on his face.
"Well I uh, technically I'm a squid." I said, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of being right.
"It's called telepathy, follow me." He said; turning around and swimming the direction the whales did.
'ooh, he's got telepathy.' I thought before he said that he heard me. 'who is this guy?'
19:00 JUL 10TH 2013 UNDERSEA CAVE
The T-Sub came to surface in an under see cave and floated towards the land section. I got out and looked around when two figures stepped out.
The first was a girl wearing blue Atlantian pants with black fins and thigh guards, her belt identical to the one Kaldur wore. She hat on a whit shirt with what I can only describe as a black swimsuit top shape on it before there was a rectangle of blue that stopped at her collar bone and lead to a white neck. She had blue shoulder pads and gloves sandwiching in the short white sleeves. She had olive colored skin and long black hair.
The second was a boy that Kaldur had introduced to me once whose name I believe was Lagan.
"Robin, it's nice to see you again." The boy said, walking forward and shaking my hand. "Guess what, Aqua Man took me on as his newest Protégé, I'm Lagoon Boy."
"That's great Lagan." I said, looking at the girl who looked strangely familiar. "And who is this?"
"That's Lorena, or as she's recently been dubbed, Aqua Girl." I heard Tempest's voice say behind me so I quickly turned around. "it's nice to see you Robin, and to meet this new team of yours."
"You too Tempest, it's been a while." I said, giving my old friend an Atlantian handshake. "You know Lorena doesn't sound like an Atlantian name."
"It's not, she's from subdiego." He said, smiling down at me. "Some of the people in Sandiego didn't drown the evolved gills all of the sudden and they survived, though under the attack of Black Manta."
"that's great, but where are we?" I asked, looking around at the cave around us.
"My place, I asked the whales to bring you here." He said, looking over me and at the girls.
"uh, thanks for saving us." Raven said nervously, probably falling for Tempest's Atlantian charm.
"yes, thank you very much for saving us." Star said, a little too excitedly for my taste.
"He saved you?" Beast Boy asked as he came out of the water. "hello, I was there too you know."
"You stopped the bad guy from kabobing us with that supped up shrimp fork?" Cyborg asked Beast Boy, getting in really close.
"Way to go." I said, patting the green skinned teen on the back in congratulations.
"I was gonna but…" Beast Boy said before Tempest walked up to us and interrupted.
"I'm Tempest Beast Boy, sorry I didn't' introduce myself earlier, we atlantians try to keep a low profile." He said, extending his hand for Beast Boy to shake.
"Good job, I don't think anyone even noticed you." Beast Boy said begrudgingly as he shook his hand.
"Wait, you're from Atlantis." Raven said, apparently not hearing what I'd said about Lorena.
"That's right; Mr. Ponytail comes from the lost city of Atlantis." Aqua Girl said, walking up next to Tempest and putting her arm on his shoulder. "Of course so is this Trident guy we're all after."
"He's the worst criminal in Atlantis, with an ego to match." Tempest said as Lagoon Boy turned on a holo-projector. "He claims he's absolutely perfect in every way, so he thinks he can do whatever he wants.
"Any idea what he wants with all that toxic waste?" I asked, looking at the three Atlantians in the room.
"Whatever it is it'll be bad for both our worlds." Tempest said, looking me dead in the eyes. "He's already gained some kind of new power, it's like he can be everywhere at once."
"Noticed that." Raven said from my side, probably reffering to how her Cyborg and Star had all seen him at the same time.
"As long as we're after the same guy maybe we can help each other." Tempest said, not even glancing at anyone but me.
"Whoa no, we're good, got the whole trident thing under control." Beast Boy said, trying to push me towards the T-Sub. "Besides, I'm sure there's a school of minnow somewhere that need you…"
I pulled Beast Boy aside so that he couldn't finish insulting my friend and to discuss something with him.
"We're at the bottom of the ocean." Raven said, glaring at Beast Boy from the other side of our huddle.
"Our subs Swissed cheese." Cyborg said, glaring at Beast Boy as well.
"And we cannot breathe water." Star said, not angrily like the others, but simply trying to make a point.
"We'll take any help you can give us." I said, breaking up the huddle and walking towards my old friend.
"Hey Lagoon Boy, you wanna give these guys a hand with their sub?" Tempest asked.
"Yeah, man I love working on surface world tech." he said running towards the T-Sub.
"Lagoon Boy's good with tools." Aqua Girl said, leaning on Tempest's shoulder again. "It's actually one of the few good things he is good at."
"Hey, I'm good at other things too." He said, looking back at Aqua Girl as he examined the ship.
"And while he's helping you I will track down Trident." Tempest said, walking past us.
"You mean I'll track down Trident." Beast Boy said passing the pair on their way to the water.
"That's okay I can handle it." Tempest said pulling Beast Boy back behind him.
"Thanks but I'll think I'll be fine." Beast Boy said pushing Tempest back towards the rest of us.
"Seriously, I'll take care of it." Tempest said as Beast Boy pushed him away.
"Would you just get out of my." Beast Boy began as Tempest picked him up to put him behind him. "Let me go!" they both shouted in unison."
"Guys why don't you both go track him down, together." I said, separating the two of them.
"I usually work alone." Tempest said, crossing his arms and looking down at Beast Boy.
"Yeah, me too." Beast Boy said, crossing his arms and looking away from Tempest and I.
"You do not; you're part of a team!" Tempest complained, pointing at Beast Boy.
"And you hang out with Lagoon Boy and Aqua Girl, what's your point?" Beast Boy said, pointing at Lagoon Boy.
"Hey, arguing isn't going to stop Trident." I said, keeping the two of them from attacking each other again. "Now get out and search, both of you."
"No way, not with him." Beast Boy said, looking away defiantly. "Hey, where's Aqua Girl?"
"Damn it, we've got to find her before she gets in trouble." Tempest said, jumping into the water with Beast Boy close behind.
19:20 JUL 10TH 2013 OCEAN FLOOR
I turned into a squid and followed Tempest as we searched the ocean floor for this Aqua Girl chick.
"Lorena, Lorena where are you?" Tempest called frantically throwing rocks around. "Lorena!"
"Calm down Garth, I'm right here." Aqua Girl said, coming out from behind a rock formation. "I knew the only way to get you two to work together was to trick you into thinking I was missing, or went on ahead without you."
"Don't you ever do that again, okay?" Tempest said, putting his hands on the girl's shoulders.
"Okay Tempest, but right now we need to find Trident." She said, gesturing for Tempest to take the lead.
I followed close behind until we were out of the cave system. "I searched that region yesterday, let's start over here." He said, pointing to the left than swimming right.
"Look, I'm sure you're some kind of local hero, but I'm a real hero from the big city, so just let me call the shots." I said, pointing at myself with one of my tentacles. I turned into a dolphin and started to swim away. "Try to keep up." I swam around for a bit, making clicking sounds. "I'm picking something up on my sonar." I said before I burst towards the region he'd checked yesterday.
When I reached the place I'd picked something up I ran into a pod of other dolphins.
"Congratulations, you found other Dolphins." Tempest said mockingly from behind me.
"Give him a break Tempest; he doesn't do a work under the water." Aqua Girl said, swimming up to the dolphins and petting them. "Hey, do you think you could tell us where the scary man with the trident is. Thanks guys, well Tempest, where is that place."
"I know it, just try to keep up." He said, smiling at me and swimming away at high speed
"Oh, I'll do better than that." I said, bursting off after the man, Aqua Girl not far behind me.
I swam past Aqua Lad and heard a slight giggle in my head that didn't sound like the girls I usually thought about. And then a race ensued, each time he passed me I turned into a faster fish so that I could pass him.
"Beast Boy, stop!" Tempest called as I sped past him, and he stopped behind me.
"What's the matter, am I too fast for you." I asked right before I ran into Trident. "Hah, how's it goin'?"
"Keep your thoughts to yourself inferior fool!" He shouted, pointing his Trident down at me and blasted at me a few times.
After a few seconds Tempest pushed him to the ground and Aqua Girl was at my side.
"Oh no you don't, this time he's mine." I said, turning into a shark and swimming past Aqua Girl and towards Trident, biting his fork thingy in half. He grabbed for me but I turned into a giant squid and wrapped around him, pulling him to the ground.
I struggled with Trident for a while and he pulled me up off the ground, almost having ripped me off of him. He threw me at Tempest and I accidentally wrapped around him instead.
"Come on boys, he's getting away." Aqua Girl said, swimming to a cave, prompting us to follow her.
We reached the cave and there were two entrances so we deliberated which one would be better to take.
"Where were you back there?!" Tempest demanded, looking at me with hatred in his eyes.
"Where was I, fighting Trident, where were you by myself." I answered, glaring back at him.
"You barely managed to lay a tentacle on him, at least I managed to break his weapon." He lied, since I had broken his weapon.
"Dude, that's just wrong, I so broke that fork thing." I said, getting angry at him when I saw Trident standing in the cave opposite me.
"There he goes!" we both shouted, pointing at the opposite cave. "I saw him, he went that way. I'm right, your wrong, end of story, if you don't believe me see you later." I said, not wanting to hear any more from this liar and swimming off after Trident.
"I'm telling you, he's this way." Tempest said, still pointing at the other cave. "If you wanna go that way, be my guest, but I'm going to catch Trident."
"Beast Boy wait up!" I heard Aqua Girl say, following close behind me. "I want to talk to you about something."
"As long as it is not about that jerk wad Tempest." I said as I swam down my cave.
"Beast Boy, if you're going to judge him you'll need all of the information first." She said, putting her hand where my shoulder would have been. "A few months ago his girlfriend was killed on a mission, and it kind of changed him."
"Wait, what?" I said, turning around to look at the teen whose eyes were extremely said.
"It's the reason Robins old team got disbanded, and it changed Garth." She continued, looking me dead in the eyes. "He doesn't want to endanger anyone so he does everything himself, which is probably why Lagoon Boy are only here because Aqua Man ordered it."
"I didn't know, but that doesn't excuse the lying." I said turning around and continuing to swim.
"Remember how he can be in more than one place at a time, well I think that's what's happening." She said right before Trident came down from the seiling wielding one of those fork thingies.
"Worthless scum, you cannot defeat perfection!" he shouted before blasting at us.
"How many of those fork thingies does he have?" I asked as I dodged the lasers that he was blasting at us.
He made it close enough to stab me but I turned into a turtle and curled up into my shell. The clanging of his fork thingy driving me crazy before he blasted me towards the ground where I turned into a crab.
"I will win, I always win, I am superior." He said before I grabbed onto his fork thingy with my claw.
"And I thought Tempest had a big ego." I said, looking around for Aqua Girl who was floating unconscious in the water. 'Dang it.' I thought letting go of Trident and turning into a squid to carry Aqua Girl up to the surface.
When I put her down I stood up and saw Tempest in the underwater cave. "I just saw Trident!" We both said; pointing towards the entrances we'd both taken. "No you didn't! Yes I did! Cut it out!"
"I don't care what you saw, I fought Trident!" I shouted, pointing up at the larger man.
"That's impossible." He said exasperated, looking down at me with raised eyebrows.
"Okay dude, what is your problem?" I asked glaring up at him angrily
"What is your problem? We're supposed to be on the same team, but your treating me like an enemy." He said, looking down at me confused.
"I don't need you on my side, this was my mission until you showed up." I said, still glaring up at him. "You think you're so cool, but I've gotta news flash for ya, you're not better than me!"
"I don't think I'm better than you!" he shouted, obviously annoyed. "maybe you're better than me, who cares. All I care about is catching Trident, and to do that, we need to stop fighting, and start working together."
"working together." I said under my breath when it hit me. "Tempest, what if there's more than one Trident?"
"Don't be ridiculous, how could there be more than one Trident?" Tempest asked, looking back at me as he was walking down the cave.
"Actually I think Beast Boy's pegged the nail on the head Tempest." Aqua Girl said from where I'd laid her down.
"Well it looks like we've been found out." I heard Trident say, drawing the three of our attentions. "Do you think it'd be safe to take off these ridiculous costumes Kaldur?"
"Yes my king." A much calmer voice said and I saw Aqua Lad standing at the entrance Tempest had come in. "What shall we do with these intruders King Orm."
"Orm, wait do you mean Aqua Man's brother?" Aqua Girl said, getting up off the ground. "And what are you doing here Aqua Lad?"
"Aqua Man lied to me, and now I'm working with the true king of Atlantis." Aqua Lad answered looking angrily at all of us. "And my name is not Aqua Lad!"
He brought out his weapons and made two water hammers and was about to smash us when the T-Sub showed up and launched some smoke pellets.
21:00 Jul 10th 2013 Titans Tower
"Consider yourself and honorary Teen Titan." I said, handing Tempest one of our spare Titan secure com channel/GPS'. "We couldn't have done it with out you, all three of you."
"Right back at ya, it's good to know that there are still people up here I can call." He said, looking back at Aqua Girl and Lagoon Boy.
"And it's good to know there are folks down there who can fix a hyper jet." Cyborg said, shaking hands with Lagoon Boy.
"By Raven, Star Fire." Tempest said, looking at the girls as they practically drooled over him.
"It was nice to meet you." Raven said, her voice happier than it usually was.
"Oh very, very, very nice." Star said, getting so close that Tempest backed up into Beast Boy.
"What can I say dude, you're the best." Beast Boy said, looking up at Tempest with pride in his eyes.
"Nah, you're the best." Tempest said patting Beast Boy on the back and walking towards Aqua Girl.
"Okay babe, let's go." Aqua Girl said, kissing Tempest and winking at the girls as they dove into the water.
23:00 JUL 10TH 2013 CLOCK WORKS
"You know I appreciate your initiative Vandal, but I'm going to ask you to stay out of my city." I said in my gruff Australian accent. "I hope that's not going to be an issue?"
"Not at all old friend, this was just meant to send a message to Robin and Tempest." Vandal said, sipping from his wine glass. "You have impeccable taste Death Stroke and the wines quite good as well."
AN: Sorry I glazed over the Kaldur thing so much, I just thought that it would be a private conversation between Tempest and Robin, nothing public, maybe I'll reference that in the next chapter which will be coming soon. Please review.
