- "Only a fool fears nothing"

It had been 20 years since that night. Since Jarnunvösk had come into the world. The dragon had grown quickly and was now many times the size of the largest house. Galbatorix had begun his training soon after Jarnunvösk's hatching. Galbatorix had found himself to be a natrual at magic and was quick to learn the ancient language. Now he stood before the Elder Council, 5 fellow students by his side. The Elders told them that they had learned what they needed and where ready to become riders in full. They would begin their advanced studies in Ellesméra in two years time. For the last two decades he had stayed on the island, Vroengard. Finally they would explore the world they would watch over. Galbatorix had heard that two of his fellow graduates were going on a trip into the Northern reaches of the Spine. Excited by the idea of visiting such a untouched frontier he asked if he could join. Two days later with supplies packed and dragon's ready the three Riders took to the sky, never knowing the horrors that would unfold.

Galbatorix's POV

The wind rushed by my face. The blue sky above and the lanscape below blurring by. The crimson and gold scales of Jarnunvösk seemed to shine like a gem of molten lava.

"I finally feel free", I shouted.

"After all those years I can explore the world. See this beautiful paradise. This trip to the Spine will be the first of our many adventures as riders, Jarnunvösk"

"Yes little one, but we must have caution as well. Remember, Elder Oromis always says that those who lack caution will walk to their death without ever realizing it"

"I know Jarnunvösk, but we are now officially Riders. What could possibly cause us harm?"

"All the same we are not invincible."

And so the hours went by and soon night fell. The trio of Dragons and Riders found a lake frozen solid and decided to use it as a campsite. By the time they had unpacked and set up camp the moon was high in the sky. Quickly the group found sleep. Not once realizing they were not alone.
