AN: Hey everyone, it's been about two months since the last time I said I was gonna update regularly, but I obviously didn't keep that promise, but I'm gonna keep this one. This is my last time updating Nightwings Flight until next Christmas. I am going to focus entirely on Legend of the Dark Knights, and my original works for the next year, but don't worry, I will come back to this in exactly 365 days. So enough of me talking, here's the final chapter for a while.
23:58 DEC 24TH 2013 TERMINATOR DINING HALL
I sat at near the end of of the long table, Joey sitting across from me wearing a black turtle neck like shirt with short plated chain sleeves, black gloves with steel gauntlets, a golden belt, long purple pants, steel boots that went up to steel kneecaps and purple soles, his messy blonde hair slightly covering his right eye. at the far the foot of the table was Ravager in full uniform, his helmet sitting next to him as he started at his father who was in a similar position.
"How do you like the ham Renegade?" Deathstroke asked, looking down the table at me with that one brown eye.
"It's okay," I answered awkwardly, glancing briefly up at the white haired man.
our forks and knives clinked together on the ceramic plates for another awkward minute when the lights went out.
"Took them long enough," I grinned, standing up so that my chair flew back onto the concrete wall and swinging at where Deathstrokes head had been a few seconds ago only to be met with a thick gloved hand.
"Bad move kid," Deathstroke said, ramming his fist into my stomach so hard that I lifted off of the ground. I fell to my knees, Deathstokes hitting my face a few seconds later. "I took you into my house!" He yelled, picking me up off the ground. "I treated you like my own child!" Deathstroke shouted as his fist shattered my ribs. "And you dare betray me?!"
I prepared myself for the next blow when I felt myself fall heavily to the ground. I pulled my mask onto my face and saw a tall dark figure holding Deathstroke up against the wall.
"Long time no see old friend," Deathstroke said, looking down at the figure when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Robin, it's time to go," Batgirls familiar voice said into my left ear. "The Titans are distracting the Terminators while we work on the main escape."
"We need to get Joey," I said, standing up and looking around the room. Ravager was standing with his sword drawn, Joey standing next to him and holding his arm. "Ravager…"
"Do it…"
I drew my right escrima and threw it at Ravagers face, while drawing the my other one and charging at my new friend. He quickly blocked my first throw, and narrowly blocked my second, but Batgirl caught the escrima I'd thrown ramming it into Ravagers side, ramping up the volts to max so that he fell to the ground.
"Joey, We've gotta go," I said, reaching out my hand to the young boy. He looked at my hand for a while, then down at his brother, and was about to kneel down to hug his brother before I shocked him slightly so that he passed out. I caught him as he began falling, and lifted him onto my back. "I'm sorry kiddo, but I've got a promise to keep."
"Ready short shorts?" Batgirl asked, looking up at me.
"Ready book worm," I laughed back, placing my hand on control panel, the door opening to a chaotic battle between the Terminators and the Titans.
"Friend Robin, It is so good to see you again!" Starfire said cheerfully as she slammed a heavily armored man into a metal wall.
"Yo dude, Merry Christmas!" Cyborg said blasting his sonic Canon down the hallway.
"Hey man, you owe me dinner after that beating you gave me!" Beastboy said in between shifting from a gorilla to a goat.
"Robin," Raven said, coating a few men in darkness and throwing them into a wall.
"What's up Dickie Bird," Jason said, dislocating one of the Terminators shoulders and smirking at me.
"Robin, we're running support from further on," Super Boys voice rang inside my head.
"Almost done, so we'll be heading back to the tower soon," Aqualad said, his voice filled with joy. "I'm glad that you didn't actually betray us."
"That's not my style Garth," I replied, smiling as the Titans in front of me stopped fighting, just looking up at me
"Hey guys, we're having some issues on basement level three," Zatanna said. "Do you think that we could get some back up."
"On our way," Raven said, Beast Boy, Cyborg and Starfire following her down the hallway.
I looked at Jason and Batgirl, nodding at them when Batman flew through the wall.
"You're not going to get away so easily this time old friend," Deathstroke said calmly, walking out of the hole he'd just made, pulling out a pistol and pointing it at Batman.
Batgirl quickly kicked it out of Deathsrokes hand, him quickly turning to her and punching at her face, her barely managing to duck underneath it.
I kicked Deathstroke in the helmet, knocking him back a few feet before Batman stood up and punched him square in the chest.
The four of us got into a fighting position, waiting for Deathstroke to recover and strike.
He pulled out his bow staff and telescoped it out. He was about to strike when he paused, turning his head to get a good read of the situation. "Do you really think you can beat me Bruce?" he asked, looking Batman dead in the eye. "You and your successor are severely endured, Renegade is carrying a child, and your new sidekick isn't even close to being properly trained.
"True, but your speed isn't enough to take on four people at once in a small hallway," Batman said, wiping blood away from his face. "Tie?"
"It certainly seems that way," Deathstroke said, putting his staff away and glaring back at me. "But next time I see your little brat, I won't be looking to recruit him."
"He can take care of himself," Batman said, standing up straight and grabbing onto his ribs. "Dick, tell your team to pull back to the tower."
"Yes sir," I said, focusing on the link M'gan must have established. "Titans, we're pulling out. Head back to Titan Tower."
01:00 DEC 25TH 2013 TITANS TOWER LIVING ROOM
I walked into the living room wearing my old motorcycle jacket, a T-shirt, loose fitting blue jeans and running shoes. The room was filled with teenage superheroes wearing the civilian clothes, and at the front of the room was Batman, fully clothed with that stern glare on his face.
"Friend Robin!" Kori yelled as she wrapped her arms around my neck. "It is so good to have you home again."
"Yeah," I said solemnly, gently patting her back. I looked around the room, all of the faces equal parts excited and sad. "I don't think I'm gonna be here much longer though."
"What do you mean?" Kori said, letting go and looking up at me. "You have only just come home."
"Yeah man, seriously, we need our leader back!" Garfield said, standing up and looking up at me in disbelief.
"You guys have been doing fine the past few months without me," I said, looking over at Raven and Barbara. "Besides, this experience showed me that I'm not ready to be your leader yet."
"What exactly to you expect us to do without you?" Cyborg said, crossing his arms and glaring at me.
"I expect you to keep fighting crime," I said seriously, Kori backing up to join the rest of the group. "You guys are the Teen Titans, just because I'm not here doesn't mean that changes."
"We'll still need a leader," Aquagirl added.
"That's what Raven's here for," I answered calmly, looking over at the dark haired girl. "Her and Batgirl lead the Titans while I was gone, and I have complete faith that she can do it again."
"Are you sure about this Robin?" Raven asked, her face as neutral as ever.
"Of course I am," I smiled, looking around at the room. "And if you ever need any help, you've got plenty of experienced heroes to ask for help."
"Where are you even going?" Jason asked, glaring up at me.
"Theres this place in the himalayas that I hear has the greatest martial arts master in the world," I answered, looking Batman dead in the eyes. "Guys, I've made my decision, I hate to do this, but I trust you guys to take care of Jump City for me."
"We will," Zatanna said, standing up and smiling at me.
"Thanks Z," I smiled, looking at all of my old team mates, and all of my new ones. "Thanks to all of you."
There was a few minutes of content silence before Batman spoke. "Dick, may I see you for a few seconds before you go?" He asked, looking at me with dead seriousness.
"Of course," I said, Batman walking through the crowed and walking me out of the room. "So, what did you want to talk to me about?"
"I just wanted to give you this," Bruce said, taking off his mask and pulling something out of his utility belt. He handed me a gold painted clay shape that looked similar to a bat symbol, but much more birdlike. "Helena wanted to give it to you in person, but since you're leaving I decided I should give it to you now."
"How did you know to bring it?" I asked, looking up at the man with a sly smile.
"I just had a feeling," Bruce said, pulling his cowl back over his face and walking over to the elevator. "I'm proud of you Dick."
