Warning: These one-shots feature heavy subjects, including alcoholism, drug abuse, suicide and torture... so far. Now adding: depression, cheating, heartbreak, underage, implied prostitution, suicidal thoughts, someone having acid thrown on them, smut, implied rape/non-con. I'll add more as the story wears on, just in case.

Disclaimer: Credit goes to HannahSongla for the story idea. Please go check out her Hayniss story similar to this - Sweetheart. Credit goes to Suzanne Collins for the verse and the characters. I don't really own anything but the text of these one-shots. And no, that doesn't mean the song lyrics or the playlist. Enjoy c:

AN: This chapter is for Woodspurge. I wasn't going to write for a few more weeks while I try to get rid of this gross writer's block, but your reviews inspire me. Thank you for them ^-^ And for chapter 30 {thirty already, wow} here's a little bit of inspirational fluff.

Song: As Long As I Have You by Elvis Presley

As Long As I Have You

Let's think of the future,
forget the past
You're not my first love,
but you're my last

It's quiet in the Abernathy household, something to treasure. What with Hope running around, and Johanna and Annie's recent ins and outs as of lately, it was nice to have some peace that didn't come to him at three in the morning. Haymitch and Katniss are both sitting on the living room couch, Katniss' head in Haymitch's lap and Haymitch's nose buried in his most recent hobby - a novel. It's peaceful, and they take the moment that's not filled with the laughter of Finley or Hope, or the loud cursing and stomping about that is Johanna Mason, to unwind and relax.

Eventually, Katniss sighs and takes the book from Haymitch's hand.

"Sweetheart, I was reading that," he sighs, reaching for it back. Katniss pulls it out of his reach and sets it on the coffee table.

"Yeah, I know. I have something to tell you," she says after worrying her bottom lip between her teeth for a moment. Eyebrow raised, Haymitch gestures for her to go on. "I saw Peeta today."

That gets his attention. Katniss stares at her hands, wringing them together to avoid looking at the shock on her husband's face. There's a long pause of silence before he nods and grabs her hands, holding them in his

"And?" Haymitch asks. She shrugs and clears her throat.

"He wants to move back to Twelve," and then, almost as if it's one entire word, "Hewantstobringhiswifeandkidswithhim."

"What was that, sweetheart?" Haymitch asks. Katniss opens her mouth, but he taps the bottom of her chin, coaxing her to look at him. When she does, he can tell she's extremely upset about this. She hasn't looked this sad since... well, since the death of her sister, really. "Look at me. What'd you say?"

"He wants to bring his wife and kids with him. They want to move in next door," she says, spacing out her words. Haymitch pauses again, letting what she's saying settle into his mind. Peeta Mellark moving back to District 12? It would certainly be something to ogle at - he hadn't seen the boy since the end of war, lying in a hospital bed. But now, bring a wife and...

"Wife and kids? Plural?" Haymitch asks, his eyebrows shot into his hairline. Sure, it had been about six years since the end of the rebellion, but that was moving things a little too fast, wasn't it?

"Three," Katniss says shakily. "I don't... I don't think I could handle that, Haymitch. Having him back here. I still have nightmares about the look on his face when he found out... I just don't think I can. I'm not strong enough to bear it." Haymitch shakes his head and pulls her closer to him, resting his hands on her shoulders.

"Katniss. You are not weak. You've survived the death of your father, starvation, two arenas, a rebellion, the death of your sister, and the loss of the people you once called family. You are stronger than this, and this... this is a mere obstacle in our life together. C'mon now sweetheart. You can handle some kid moving in across the street."

"But that's just it, Haymitch!" Katniss explodes. "It's not just some kid! It's... it's Peeta. With his pretty wife and kids. I can't do that. I can't handle that - how do I look any of them in the eye and be friendly? How do I do that with our... our past?"

"I don't know sweetheart but you have to try. We've made a home here, we can't allow this small thing to drive us away," Haymitch replies, desperately trying not to lose his cool. He had become the 'sane' one of the relationship over the years, Katniss' tendency to overreact forcing him into the role of 'sane'. "Katniss, I know Peeta's return is going to shake you up - I'd be scared if it didn't - but you can't let this get this best of you. You Hope relying on you, not to mention I need you. Your past is where it is - behind you. Don't let it block the view of your future."

Haymitch stops before sighing. "Damn. You've made me corny."

Laughing gently, Katniss rolls her eyes. Haymitch smiles back at her, simply knowing that she's going to be okay. That they were both going to be okay.

Let the stars fade and fall
And I won't care at all
As long as I have you
