"Fool For You"

9. Neutral

The ticking of the clock combined with the tapping of Madara's foot was enough to drive anyone insane. Tobirama sighed and glanced over at the Uchiha before settling his ruby eyes back onto his exam paper. How the hell was he supposed to concentrate on the exam with this nut's distractions?

"You have 10 more minutes" their substitute teacher cooed which seemed to increase Madara's panic and therefore his tempo.

'Yeah, ten more minutes in this hell...'

While passing in his exam, Tobirama glanced at Madara who looked completely out of it with eyes so bloodshot it seemed as if he hadn't slept in over a week. He remembered Izuna complaining about how his older brother stayed up too long and studied too hard but Madara honestly looked like he was more than an insomniac.

He shook his head as he exited the classroom knowing better than to think that Madara could possibly be a drug addict and simply thought that the kid was just stressed about applying to college.

"How's you day been Zu?"

Tobirama found Izuna's standout black hair in the cafeteria and sat down next to his lover, being careful not to seem too close. They still hadn't put a label on the relationship, well not a public one anyway, and with the Winter Ball approaching everyone was suddenly interested in everyone else's love lives.

"It's been great!" The ever optimistic boy smiled his sweet smile and Tobirama felt his heart melt. He didn't understand why this beautiful boy still spent his time on him, how he could graciously open his heart to someone who was still apprehensive about fully opening his own.

"Well I'm glad" Tobirama replied with a smile that quickly turn to a frown when he saw Damasu Sarutobi approaching him from the corner of his eye.

"Hey Tobe, what're you doing eating with twinkle toes here?"

Izuna pouted slightly as Damasu sat to Tobirama's right, leaving the snow haired Senju in a tension sandwich. Izuna had done his best to ignore the Sarutobi and his crude remarks for the past few months and was grateful that he was no longer being physically harassed but would never forget the pain that he had suffered.

Tobirama sighed, not wanting any conflict to ensue. "Uhm- Izuna and I were discussing the possibility of having some of the cheerleaders at our next hockey game to lighten the spirits since we've been losing the league."

The Sarutobi raised a dark bushy brow while looking between the two. "That's actually not a half bad idea."

This time Tobirama and Izuna looked between themselves, bewildered that the homophobe actually bought the story and seemed to agree nonetheless.

"Tell you what, princess," Damasu began as he stood up and grabbed Tobirama's arm, "I'll agree to that if you let me borrow him for the rest of lunch."

"I-"

Before Izuna could speak up for himself his lover was being led away by the larger teen, to where and for what he did not know. He let out a sigh and decided it was probably nothing more than important sports talk and turned to pick at his sandwich which seemed to have lost all flavor.

She'd been staring at him the whole meeting, not absorbing a single word coming out of his mouth but she didn't care what those lovely lips had to say anymore. She'd spaced out and only came crashing back to Earth when she realized those lips were muttering her name.

"Mito?"

Snapping out of her funk, the red haired girl blinked and blushed when she noticed that the two of them were in the room alone together. How long had the meeting been over?

"I'm sorry Hashirama," she murmured, looking downward trying to play it off as exhaustion, "I've just been extremely tired is all. I can't concentrate much."

Hashirama gave a nervous smile and walked over to his friend, placing a hand on her shoulder and causing her to jump just the slightest. "It's okay Mito, a lot of us are. We're all busy with lots of things. Distractions happen."

She blushed harder the longer he kept his hand upon her shoulder, only removing it after she reached beet red. "Listen I think we should take a break on planning so many activities. Just focus on the final preparations for the ball and on our academics in the meanwhile."

Her head sunk a little lower; she was feeling faint from the closeness and intimacy of a conversation like this with the one she desired but Hashirama took this as a sign of melancholy. "To take your mind off things maybe this weekend we could go shopping for something to wear for the ball."

Mito's head sprung back up and her heart skipped a beat. That didn't mean what she thought it meant, right? They were only going shopping as friends, right? "Yeah that sound slike a good idea." She smiled nervously, even more nervously than Hashirama, and used her newly lifted spirits to stand herself up. Maybe things were finally gonna go right, maybe he was finally beginning to see some girlfriend potential in her.

It's been a while, like a year and a half since the last update. I kinda broke away from the Naruto fandom and thus tumblr and fic writing because I was pursuing university and needed to focus but the higher education system released me so I've been trying to get back into the swing of things.

Anyways this isn't the greatest chapter nor am I particularly proud of it but it was the best I could muster after being away for so long. Hopefully I'll have another update for y'all in a week after I can remember how I wanted the plot to progress in its entirety. I've been re-reading it and looking at all the obvious plot devices I left but some of it isn't in my memory so it may end up steering in a slightly or entirely new direction. Anyways, I hope this neutral chapter stirs up your hopes for the future of this fic. (:

Also if you need a good laugh copy the link for this chapter an paste it into XD
