Chapter 3

Boy or Girl?:

Ty and Jules left earlier than usual to give Jace and me time to set up a room for Cecily. We had three guest rooms total and all of them had everything set up already, but I wanted to make it perfect for her. Edmund Herondale, Cecily's father, had called to say that Linette, Cecily's mother, got held up with a few last minute arrangements and that they would be dropping Cecily off later than expected. He had said that they would probably be here around six or seven. Because of this, Jace decided to go to the grocery to pick up a few things they may need, now that there would be three people here. Jace came back with a whole lot more than what he had said he was getting, and we were in the middle of unpacking when she arrived.

"Clary! Jace!" Cecily cried as she ran towards me with her arms spread wide. Cecily Herondale had long, straight black hair and porcelain skin with deep blue eyes that shone brightly. She was an inch or two taller than me, though she was still growing, it was clear that I would soon have to look up to her. "Cecy!" I yelled as I wrapped my arms around her slight frame. She had to bend over to avoid hitting my stomach. "You're so pregnant!" She cried after pulling back from me and started to jump up and down. She then gave Jace a quick side hug before turning back to face me, "When is she due?" Cecy asked excitedly. "Nice to see you too Ces, and we don't know for sure if its going to be a girl. We could be having a boy," Jace said as he playfully ruffled her hair. Cecily jumped back from his reached, a pouty face in place, "You're just saying that because you want a son, it could very well be a girl." Cecily jumped back from his reach, a pouty face in place, "You're just saying that because you want a son, it could very well be a girl." "And it could just as well be a boy, but we won't know for sure until a couple of weeks. Right Clary?" Jace argued as he looked to me for guidance, but I couldn't be of much help right now.

"Jace," I said as I stared up at him with wide eyes. My hand clutched the bottom of my stomach as I felt my pants getting wet. If I hadn't known any better, I would have thought that I had peed my pants, but that wasn't the case. "What is it? Are you alright?" Jace asked as he rushed over to me and searched my eyes. It was then that my stomach started to cramp up, "I think my water just broke."

~about an hour later~

Cecily and Jace rushed around before finally getting me to the nearest hospital. Once we were there, the doctor and a group of nurses rushed about in getting everything ready, all while managing to appear orderly. Jace was able to follow me into the hospital room and was now dressed in blue scrubs. He had held my hand through the whole thing, and by the time it was over I was sweaty, clutching onto a most likely broken hand, in pain, and had tears in my eyes, but none of that mattered when I heard the soft cries of my baby.

I tried to sit up and had started to reach for my baby, when the doctors instructed me to lay back down. "Not just yet, Mrs. Herondale. You have another one on the way," a nearby nurse supplied as she smiled down at me and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, "Now we're gonna need you to push some more. Can you do that?" I nodded my head, too shocked to speak, but I did as she asked. Within five minutes or so I heard the cries of my second baby, but this time I was far too exhausted to even attempt to sit up.

I fell back onto the bed, still holding onto Jace's hand as I looked up at him. Jace had tears in his eyes when he knelt down to place a kiss on my forehead. He had that wide and crazed grin in place, "You did great Clary. You did so good," he whispered as he brushed my sweat dampened hair from my face. "Would you like to see your children now?" A nurse asked as she walked up to the end of the bed. "Yes, yes we would," I laughed as I felt tears form in my eyes. Finally, after months of waiting I would be able to see my baby, or babies I guess. We would have to adjust to get double the baby supplies now. I still didn't even know the genders, this was all just so crazy.

I clutched onto Jace's hand as the nurse walked away, and came back a minute later with another nurse. They both carried a baby, our babies, bundled up in fluffy white blankets. "Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Herondale, you have two baby boys," the nurse from earlier said with a large smile. She carefully transfered the baby she was holding into my arms, and when I looked up at Jace he was perched on the edge of my bed with our other baby. "They're just darling. Well we'll give you a little alone time with the boys," the nurse smiled gently as she led her partner away from the bed.

I looked down at my son, and for the first time noticed the tufts of strawberry blonde hair on the top of his head. He was sucking on his little thumb as he slept on. I could feel my tears escaping as I looked over at the small bundle that Jace held lovingly. This boy was awake, but looked to be on e verge of sleep. He had his dad's golden eyes and the same strawberry blonde hair as his brother. "They're beautiful," I whispered as I reached a free hand out to the baby that Jace held. His tiny fingers curled around my pointer finger and slowly his eyes drifted shut.

"What should we name them?" Jace asked he looked back and forth between the boys. I looked down at the baby in my arms before glancing at the baby in Jace's arms and then up at Jace. "How about Noah Jay Herondale," I said directed toward the bundle in Jace's arms, "and Ethan Michael Herondale," I finished looking down at the sleeping baby in my arms. "Perfect," Jace smiled down at me.
