Chapter 7
Who are you?
"Clary," a lulling voice called from the darkness. I opened my eyes just to shut them back when the blaring light of day stabbed my vision. "Hmm," I groaned as I rubbed at my eyes. How long had I been asleep, I'm always the first one to wake up not Jace. That was when it hit me. Jace and I had left while the kids were camping out with Emma, Jules, Cecy, and Ty, we were going… where were we going? I remember sitting with him in the grass, waiting for someone, but who were we waiting for? "Clarissa baby," that same voice called as they stroked my hair back from my face.
My eyes shot open at that to see bright green eyes that matched my own. "Mom," I whispered as the tears flooded in. "Yes baby, its me," she smiled as she drew her arms around me. "But… but how?" I sobbed into her shoulder. She pulled back, stroking my hair and whipping my tears away. "Look how much you've grown. My baby girl is all grown up!" She cooed as her eyes darted all over me. I looked around the room to find that we were sitting in Jace and my bedroom, we were the only ones in here at the moment. "Where's daddy?" I asked. I don't know why I had reverted back to calling him daddy, the last time I had done that was when I was seven years old and again in my last moments with him, but if felt right all the same. It was like my mouth formed the word before my brain could think it through, it was just there.
"Your Father, well he has some business to take care of, he'll be back soon. Now, tell me everything that's happened, and don't leave a single detail out," she said with the excitement of a small child. Even with years of being away from her she still looked the same, save for the silvery gray that streaked through her hair much like snowfall. I went into a conversation with my mother of the events of my life, starting from the day before we left to last night.
Towards the end of telling, a soft rap came at the door, followed by soft giggles. Within seconds three little heads peeked around the edge of a now open door, wide smiles on their dimpled faces. "Mommy!" Lil squealed as she ran into the room, promptly hurling herself onto the bed and into my lap, "Daddy took us to work with him today!" "He did? Did you have fun?" I asked as I tried to calm her wild curls that were sticking up at unbelievable angles. "Yes!" She exclaimed as she bounced up and down in my lap. "Mama," Ethan called quietly as he edged around the room to my side before grabbing ahold of the hem of my shirt, "Who is she?"
I glanced down at Ethan to see him pressing himself closer to me, not taking his eyes off of my mother for one second. It was then that Noah decided to come into the room, only he didn't shy away from my mother, instead he edged closer, looking her up and down as if he were searching for something. "You, why do you look like my Mom?" He questioned with his arms crossed tightly over his chest. "Oh my," Jocelyn laughed as she clapped her hands in front of her mouth, "You're awfully tenacious." "Don't use big words to distract me!" Noah whined, clearly upset with not knowing what the word meant, "just answer the question."
"Yeah, yeah," Lil chanted as she bounced in my lap, "who are you?" "Well," Jocelyn said with a bright smile, "why don't you ask your mommy?" "Mom?" Noah called, whipping his head around to look at me, "who is this crazy lady and why is she here?" He asked, giving Jocelyn a cautionary glance before turning back to me. I couldn't help but laugh at all of their reactions, it was rare for them to meet new people at home, oh if they only knew. "Ethan honey, come on out," I said as I opened my arms out for him before pulling him closer to me. Noah soon joined our little group, Noah to my left, Lil in my lap, and Ethan to my right.
"This," I said directing my attention to each of my three children, "is Jocelyn. She's my mother, and your Grandmother." "Grandmofer?" Lil questioned with wide eyes, "What's that?" "It means she's family dummy," Noah teased as he gently tugged a strand of her hair. "Hey! What did mommy say about pulling my hair and calling me names!?" Lil whined before launching herself at him, tackling him on the bed while they both giggled. "Lillian Grace and Noah Jay, now is not the time to be fighting, now go say hello to your Grandmother." I absolutely hated using the scary mom voice, but it was the only way to get those two to stop fighting. "But mom," they both grumbled in unison. "Now," I said and within seconds they had moved to do as I said.
"Hello Grandmother," Noah said in a deadpan voice. "Hi Grandmofer!" Lil giggled as she jumped at Jocelyn to give her a hug. She locked her little hands around Jocelyn's neck, a wide, mostly toothy, grin in place. "Hi sweetie," Jocelyn laughed as she wrapped her arms around my daughter. The way the two of them hugged and laughed together made it seem as if they had known each other from the start, never missing a single day together from the moment Lillian was born. "Will you play princesses with me?" Lillian asked as she pulled back from Jocelyn. "Sure sweetheart, just give me a moment, okay?" Jocelyn said, not missing a beat. "Okay!" Lil cried with glee as she jumped up from her spot in Jocelyn's lap before running out of the room, no doubt searching for her tiara.
"Hello Noah," Jocelyn smiled down at Noah as she ruffled his hair. He jumped back at that, attempting to fix his mess of waves, but there was no hiding the small smile on his face. "I'm gonna find dad," Noah said as he backed out the door, still fiddling with his hair. "Now, who might you be?" Jocelyn asked as she crouched in front of Ethan. "My name is Ethan," Ethan whispered as he held onto the hem of my shirt. "And what a lovely name that is, I hope we can get along Ethan, I'd like that very much," Jocelyn smiled at my son. He was always the last to open up to new people, he was just too shy for these things. "Okay," he whispered as he nodded his head.
Author's Note:
Okay, so this chapter was to introduce the children, and I know its probably not what you guys were expecting, but I love writing with the family, its just so cute! So in some of the next chapters I will be trying to introduce all of the tings I had wanted to, basicly mymain idea that I had thought of when this story was still just a thought, and I don't know how long that is going to take for sure but I hope it goes as plan. Also I think I'm gonna bring Jace's PoV back in, would you guys like to see him throughout the whole story? If everything goes as plan the next chapter should be from him. This is it for now so bye! I love you all and thank you for reading!
