Chapter 14

Soon:

*Jace POV*

"Faster!" I held over the clashing sound of fighting. Today I was stuck training new initiates, and so far they were lacking. However, for all their flaws, they've managed to do everything I've told them to. "Again!" I yelled again. Gabriel and Bat were fighting at the moment, it was hand to hand, and it was bloody. Thank the angel I got good at this part quickly otherwise Clary would have been suspicious of all the cuts and bruises. "Come on Gabriel, pick up the pace!" I said as I got stepped closer to them, signalling for a break in the fight.

I pulled Gabriel to the side, "What are you doing out there? Bat is kicking your ass and you've been here longer than him. What do you think the point of all this is for?" I asked. Gabriel was breathing heavily and spit a bit of blood out of his mouth, "To take down the Clave?" "Good answer, but no. What would you do if they had Cecily? Would you be fighting like you just showed me?" Gabriel's eyes hardened at the thought and his bloody knuckles turned white. "I didn't think so, now go back out there!" I yelled, signaling for the fight to continue.

Bat got in one or two more punches before Gabriel got the lead on him. He pinned Bat to the ground, lifting his arm back as if he were about to break it, and he probably would have if i hadn't stopped him, "That's enough, good work, now go to you're next station." Bat and Gabriel shook hands before parting ways, Gabriel looked over his shoulder at me, a questionative look across his face and I nodded my head. Gabriel lightened up at that, and hurried over to the poisons station. As much as i hated to admit it, Gabriel wasn't half bad. Did he deserve Cecy, I'm not quite sure, but he's starting to get there.

*hours later*

"Jace!" Alec yelled as he ran towards me, a fearful look in his eyes. "What is it? At happened?" I asked, it took a lot to scare Alec. "Its… its my dad," he managed to say between heaving breaths, "they, they lost contact with him. They don't know where he is. He isn't… he isn't in holding anymore Jace! What if they…" His eyes grew wide as he thought of the worst, "Hey," I said but Alec wasn't listening. I gripped his face in my hands, forcing him to look at me. I waited for him to calm down a bit before speaking, "You're father is a strong man, he'll be fine, I'm sure of it. For now I need you to calm down, we need to find Valentine and make plans if attack…" "I don't think that's possible," Valentine said, appearing out of nowhere, "We haven't been able to properly warn Jonathan, its far too risky. You're just going to have to wait."

"Wait? Wait!" Alec yelled as he tried to jump at Valentine, a blood thirsty look in his eyes, but I held him back. "My Father is out there, being tortured and you want to wait!? He did so much for you, he out his life on the line and look what it got him. You selfish bastard!" Alec yelled as he thrashed against me. Valentine kept a calm look on his face, but there was a strong sense of rage in his eyes. "I suggest you hold your tongue boy. Your father knew what he was getting himself into. Sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good. He's merely a casualty of war," Valentine said with a flick of his wrist, "Your father was good at what he did, I agree on that, but he is replaceable. Now get out of here, and if I hear you talking about this again… well let's just say you won't enjoy what happens."

Alec was practically seething, his body was shaking in my arms, and to be honest I couldn't blame him. But he had a family to look after, he had his life ahead of him, he couldn't throw all that away with one rash mistake. "Alec, come on," I said as I pulled him toward the door. Alec struggled against me, but after a while I managed to get him out. As soon as we were out side Alec started throwing things, yelling at the top of his lungs. "That bastard! They're gonna pay, every last one of them. Those fucking Clave members are gonna burn!" He screamed as he threw nearby rocks and trash and anything in reach. His voice started to grow hoarse and raw but he continued yelling, tears freely streaming down his face now. Alec dropped to the ground, burying his face in his knees, and I let him sit there as long as he needed.

I don't know how long we stayed there when he finally spoke. "We need to tell them," Alec whispered, his voice cracking. "What?" I asked as I crouched down in front of him. "We need to tell them, Lucille and Clary. They need to know, they deserve to know," he whispered, his blue eyes were bloodshot and he was covered in dirt from the ground. "But…" I started to say before he cut me off. We had been told to keep it a secret for as long as we could, and i had been told to keep it a secret until it was actually happening. "You can't tel me its not eating you? All this guilt at lying to them, I can't be the only one. So tonight, we have to tell them tonight," Alec said, as he gripped my shoulders. His hands were still shaking but he looked so sure in his decision. I couldn't just go against that. "Okay, we'll do it together," I said with a nod of my head. When I said I wanted to tell her soon, I didn't mean like this. Oh please let her forgive me.

Author's Note:

hey guys! I hope all these character changing araren't too hard to keep up with, but its a lot of fun to write this way. So... now we get to more of the war stuff soon, I've never actually written a big fight scene so I hope it isn't too bad, and I also wanted to apologize for this story being not so 'intimate' for those of you who like that. If anyone wants to read more of at I can try and fit a bit more in, but if not then I'll keep it where I've had it. Umm aside from that I don't think there is anything else I need to cover. Oh and if you guys are getting bored with this story, or find it dragging and lame, please tell me. Be brutally honest because, like I've said before, I'll never grow as a writing if everyone sugar coats things. So please and thank you! Welp I love you all and thank you for reading!
