Chapter 16
Captive:
*Clary's POV*
It was decided that I would take the kids to school, it certainly didn't make since for all of us to go, but we were running late. I rushed dropped Lil off at preschool first and then took Noah, Ethan, and Hadley to school. There was hardly anyone outside of the school and the kids that were were running inside as fast as they could. It had been harder to get four kids ready for school than I had originally thought. I was just about to pull away from the front of the school when there was a tap on my window. I rolled it down to see a man with a hoodie on.
He leaned down, I had thought it was to speak with me, but his hand rushed forward and a cloth was pressed against my mouth and nose. I tried to get away from him and yell, but my screams were muffled from his hands, and that was when I saw his face. His cold, black eyes stared down at me menacingly as he pressed his hand even harder against my mouth. "Did you miss me?" He smirked. Black spots started to blur my vision and my body grew tired, but I was angry and so so scared. I couldn't stop trying to get away now, but it was already too late. I was surrounded with darkness now, and all that I knew was that Sebastian Verlac had been the cause.
*Jonathan's POV*
"And you're telling me you couldn't have been just a little more careful?" I glared at Sebastian Verlac. He was an idiot, a misogynistic and extremely egotistical moron, but he was helpful at times. He was the one who warned me about Magnus, and then found out about Valentine Morgenstern. He isn't a complete waste I suppose, but that certainly doesn't make up for his failures. "Sorry, but…" Sebastian tried for yet another excuse, but I was already tired of it all. It was almost midnight already, and I don't think I can handle idiot much longer when I'm running low on energy. "Just go," I said as I waved him off. Sebastian left quickly, the door shutting behind him.
Clarissa Adele Morgenstern. She was tied up in a chair in the center of the room. Her lip was busted and her right cheek was slightly puffy and was starting to bruise. I walked around my bedroom for a moment, watching her all the while, she should be waking up soon. What kind of person is she anyways? What's the daughter of a rebel leader like? She is pretty, in an odd way. Her skin is pale and she has freckles that dust across her cheeks, and her nose is tiny and upturned. Her curly red hair looked soft too, and her coppery eyelashes were fluttering against her cheeks as if she were having a bad dream. She was short and tiny too, puny even. Is she even five foot?
I stopped walking around the room when she stared to stir, her nose scrunched up and her eyebrows furrowed, whether it was in pain or confusion I had no idea, and then her eyes shot open. They were a bright green, by far her most intriguing feature. A scream erupted from her, it was a lot louder than I had imagined possible from such a small girl, and she struggled to get free from the restraints. Her eyes searched all around the room and then she spotted me and her eyes grew wider and her screams caught in her throat. "W-who are you?" She spat out, trying to compose herself, but she still struggled to free her hands and feet.
I pulled a chair over so that I sat in front of her, leaning forward so that my elbows rested on my knees. "Why don't you answer that for me?" I asked. There was no way she didn't know who I was, I mean her father is the rebel leader for crying out loud. She let out a puff of air as she shook her hair from her face, "How the hell am I supposed to know!? What, you hire that… that monster to kidnap me, but for what?!" She yelled, struggling again. Its a good thing the walls and doors of my bedroom are so thick, by the angel she was loud. I couldn't help but laugh at her act, "You mean to say you don't know who I am? What, your daddy never told you?" She flinched at that and her eyes grew frantic as she shook her head, "No, no I don't. And my father seems to have kept a lot of things from me." Clarissa looked angry, pissed even, but it didn't appear to be directed at me for the moment. "Well, Clarissa, my name is Jonathan. Jonathan Shadowhunter," I said as I straightened up, but by the blank look on her face I could tell she was still lost, "To put it short. I'm next in line to rule over these idiots, and your father seems to have other plans. Your father is planning to kill my father, ruin all the work he's done, it'll be a disaster, and I for one will not allow it. I guess you could say we have a little disagreement." Clarissa's face paled at that and she closed her eyes for a while, letting out a breath before speaking again, "And what do you plan to do with me? You want to kill me too?"
I couldn't help but laugh again, the girl had guts I'd give her that. She didn't seem to be afraid of me, if anything she seemed more annoyed with this situation than afraid. "I don't plan on killing you, no. You, Clarissa dear, are going to be used as a trade. Your father is going to give himself up and the rebel army will disband. And then, if all the requirements are met, ill let you go," I told her as I searched her face. Her eyes were still closed, her face a clean slate, but a few tears escaped, dripping down her face. Her lips mouthed a few words, something along the lines of 'I'm sorry,' but when she opened her eyes everything was gone. "Its not nice to lie to people you know," she said as she sat up straighter.
*Jace POV*
"Where is she? By the Angel Alec if anything happens to her... I should have never let her go out on her own," my legs gave from underneath me and I dropped down to my knees. Alec rushed over to me, kneeling down next to me, "Hey, hey look at me." I was staring down at the grass and dirt that I sat in, it was almost painful just to lift my head up to meet Alec's gaze. "Clary is strong, I'm sure that whatever happened, she'll be able to handle the situation. And besides, we'll find her, no matter what, okay," Alec said as he stood, "I promise you, we will find her." Alec left then, I couldn't decide if it was because it was late or out of consideration for me, but my mind was too numb to even think that through. At the moment it was stuck on what if' that I could have done differently, if only she would still be here, I mean what am I supposed to tell Lillian, Noah, and Ethan? When the got off from school, and Clary still wasn't back we made up a lie, saying that she was going over to Grandma's and Grandpa's, but that lie would only last so long, especially since they wanted to go there as soon as we mentioned it.
By the angel its all my fault, and she doesn't even know. If want I think happened to her happened, she just went into a lion's den. Ithuriel Shadowhunter would most likely kill her right away if he knew who she was, and Jonathan.. I Jace no idea what he would do. I've seen pictures of what happened to Magnus. My stomach lurched at the thought, she needed to come back now, I need to get her now. I swear by the angel if they so much as lay a finger on her, they are dead. I need to go now.
The only thing stopping me is one of the last things Clary said. Our children. She doesn't want them growing up in a world of war, and she most definetly doesn't want them to grow up parentless. "God dammit!" I yelled as I pulled at my hair. There really was nothing I could do right now, all I can do is wait for now. Valentine knows already, he'll surely do something now, right?
Auor's Note:
Okay, so we're getting into the more war like things. If there is anything im being confusing with into the story, please let me know right away and I will fix it as soon as possible. Also, just a forewarning, Jonathan and Clary know nothing of their relation together and there may or may not be something happening with them. If anyone is absolutely against that, and again I'm not even sure if I'll do anything serious with them, but please let me know before hand. I can't think of anything else at the moment so, thank you for reading and I love you all!
