Chapter 2

Smile, Today You're Alive

Andrea was getting more familiar with her weapon, thanks to Shane's help. She felt more than a little pleased with herself that her aim was improving so much. She had felt honored when Shane picked her as his back up on their scouting mission. She felt brave, determined, and strong. More than that, she felt useful finally. She was not only going to survive, but she was going to personally kill as many of these mother fuckers as she could!

Despite the danger, the adrenaline high she felt was unbelievable. In the neighborhood, Shane held back until the last possible second and allowed her to get some real time action. Her pounding heart beat rushed in her ears as she fumbled with her piece in the street. The decrepit zombies were stumbling closer and closer.

When she finally cleared the weapon and started shooting off head shots repeatedly, she felt her confidence grow but Shane was yelling for her. They had to leave, but Andrea wasn't stopping 'til she'd finished.

In the car ride back, it all culminated. She was sitting in the passenger seat beside him, excited and aroused. There was an overwhelming surge of adrenaline and victory singing through her veins when she killed her first walkers on her own. She was glad to be alive for the first time in a while, and she wanted to celebrate.

Her excitement quickly turned into arousal, and she boldly put her hand on him, not one to waste any words. She was impressed when Shane stopped the car right then and there in the middle of the road and tugged her into his lap. The urgency and reckless abandon they both felt was natural.

Shane was no slouch. She would have naturally been attracted to him before everything happened, she sometimes thought to herself. He was passionate and ruthless. He would not hesitate to do what he thought was best for the group. She agreed with his viewpoint on matters and felt likened to him by their outcast personas.

What other people viewed as cold or morally repugnant, Andrea saw as sensible qualities in Shane. He was a practical leader, and he'd given sound advice for some time before Rick joined the group. Andrea wasn't so quick to forget how he'd kept them safe before Rick arrived. Shane was a strong leader, more cut out for this cut throat world, and Andrea found herself naturally gravitating towards him still.

After they were together on the road that day, Andrea found they were becoming each other's confidantes. Andrea knew and cared not at all that he was in love with Lori. She wasn't in love with him either, so much as she trusted in his leadership and more importantly his survival skills.

They had frustrated, angry-at-the-world, passionate and animalistic sex together. They released a little tension, that was it. All she knew is it left her with a smile on her face for the first time in days. That was all that mattered, he made her stop feeling nothing for a while. She was almost addicted to the feeling. She'd forgotten what pure, mind blowing pleasure felt like in this fucked up world.

That's why she didn't protest when they found themselves in the woods together one morning. He pulled her into a passionate lip lock and was aggressively man handling her, which thrilled her tremendously. Andrea found herself fairly crawling up Shane's hard body, pressed against him. They barely broke apart to breathe, so intense was their urgent need. It gave them both a chance to forget things around them, at least for a little while.

That wasn't too much to ask for, was it?
