Lena walked into Mr. Corey Matthews's history class. It was her first day as the new teacher's assistant.
But she wasn't just any typical TA. She was a 14 year-old girl who was instead going around with Mr. Matthews's homeroom and helping any teacher if they needed it. Otherwise, she just sat around and got other important stuff done.
She faced the classroom and put on her bravest face.
"Class, this is Lena Taylor, and she is going to be your new TA!"
"Huh?" The class mumbled incoherently.
"Teacher's assistant," Corey said, in a DUH! sort of tone. "Any questions for her, if you don't mind of course."
"Oh, it's fine," Lena replied.
Missy Bradford raised her perfectly manicured and snarkily said, "Aren't you, like, supposed to be, like, in our grade, or something?"
"Darlin', I'm, like, sort of a genius," Lena replied, her accent showing through.
Missy rolled her eyes and started caking even more makeup on her face.
Next was Maya's voice calling out, "Do you have any siblings?"
Lena flinched and shifted from foot to foot, uneasily saying, "Yeah, I do. I've a twin brother who I haven't spoken to in exactly 3 years, 364 days, 9 hours, and 13 minutes."
"Oh. What's his name?" Riley asked, quietly.
"Lucas."
"Anyways, what I was going to ask was, do you have a middle name?" Riley spoke clearly, trying to change the subject.
"Ye-." She was cut off by Lucas entering the classroom.
"Sorry I'm late, Sir. Traffic was horrible."
"It's fine Lucas. This is L-." Mr. Matthews was once again interrupted by Lucas's own, pain-filled answer.
"Lena Keighlyn Taylor. Hello Angel."
"How did you know that?" Farkle asked.
Lena replied with a wavering voice. "This is the twin I was telling you about: Lucas Jackson Friar. Back at'cha Teddy."
Lucas turned toward her and whispered, "You promised you'd never leave me," tears running down his face.
She replied with her own tears and said, "And you swore you would always protect me. I guess we both broke our promises."
With that, Lena turned and ran out of the room, leaving her brother behind once again.
