Lena ran out the door, through the hallway, out the other door, and had almost made it to the parking lot when . . .
"Angel, wait!" Lucas cried, with Riley, Maya, and Farkle hot on his trails.
"What?" Lena replied. "Why are you following me?"
"You said in your letter you would tell me what made you leave. And I'm not ready to lose you again."
"Fine. I'll tell you. Come to this address for dinner tonight. I'm making burgers and cheese curds. You can bring those three too, if you want."
"Wait, that's the apartment above mine!" Riley exclaimed. "You're my new neighbor?"
"I guess I am," Lena smirked. "I'll leave my windows unlocked if you want to come in that way."
"Yeah, we'll do that," Riley replied.
"We?"
Maya noticed Lena's confusion and explained, "I spend a lot of time at the Matthews' place."
Farkle took the chance to bombard the twins with questions and blurted, "Whydidyouleave? Whodoyoulivewith? Didyourunaway? Howoldwereyouwhenyouleft? H-."
Lena covered his mouth and said, "I'll tell you all tonight, I live by myself, yes, I ran away, and I was 10 years old."
Riley and Maya turned toward her in astonishment.
"How did you get that? We've known Farkle for years and even we didn't catch half of that spiel!" Maya yelled.
"It's an acquired habit, darlin', but the eidetic memory sure does help."
Lucas interjected with a look of surprise. "You have an eidetic memory?"
"Umm, yeah. I thought you knew. I also have mild OCD."
"What's OCD?" Riley asked.
"Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, otherwise known as OCD, is a disorder of the brain and behavior. OCD causes severe anxiety in those affected. OCD involves both obsessions and compulsions that take a lot of time and get in the way of important activities the person values. Hey, stop that. No, you stop it!" That, of course, came from Lena and Farkle.
"Anyways, Lena, are you coming back to class?" Riley asked hopefully.
"Today, I was just here for an introduction; my first day is tomorrow. So, no, plus I have some stuff to unpack, but I'll see y'all tonight!"
"Yeah," Riley said, "and remember to leave your windows unlocked!"
"You got it, City Girl!" Lena replied.
"Wait, how did you know about my nickname for her?" Lucas inquired.
"I didn't . . . but you know what they say!" Lena started.
In unison, the twins shouted, "Great minds think alike, but twins think as one!"
