BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
The alarm sounded, bringing Lena out of her deep sleep. She yawned, and, looking at the clock, jumped up and started getting ready; today was her first day as the new TA! On top of that, she was helping Maya bring all her stuff over today.
Oh, shit. Maya! She still needed a third key made! The spare was already in a hiding place fitted in the door!
When she got to school, she saw Mr. Matthews in the doorway looking at her, concerned. "Are you okay, Lena?"
"Yeah, Mr. Matthews. I'm fine."
"You sure, because Riley said you and Lucas were crying when she, Maya, and Farkle left."
"We worked it all out. We're going to see Momma after school before we help Maya move in. Say, you know a place where I can get a key made?"
"Actually, my best friend Shawn can do it. He made Riley's key and the spare, too."
"Gee, thanks, Mr. Matthews . . . and could you get this Mr. Shawn to make three? Lucas needs one too, and if worst comes to worst, I want you and Mrs. Matthews to be able to get in."
"Anytime, Lena."
"You came back, huh?" Missy's obnoxious voice floated throughout the room. "Wouldn't have expected it considering you ran like a little bitch the other day."
Lena grimaced. "Well, I was kind of in shock. Who wouldn't do the same thing if they stumbled upon the twin they ran away from on the night of their birthday?"
"YOU WHAT?!" The class–sans Lucas, Riley, Maya, and Farkle–shouted.
"Ummmmm, yeah . . ." Lena mumbled, rubbing the back of her neck. "I just couldn't take it anymore."
"Take what?" Missy snorted. "The fact that you were too weak to ride a horse?"
"No, I can ride a horse, unlike you. It was the abuse I couldn't take."
The class fell silent.
"Missy, please see me after class," Mr. Matthews stated, with an edge to his voice that only his daughter and her friends could hear.
"What? But I didn't do anything!" Missy exclaims.
"See. Me. After. Class," he manages to grind out.
"You ready, Angel?" Lucas voiced the question in his twin's mind.
"Yes! No! Maybe! I don't know maybe I'm not ready for thi–" Lena is cut of by Lucas's hand over her mouth.
"Listen to me. You can do this. It's only been 3 years. She still has that picture of the two of us above the fireplace."
"She does?" Lena's eyes shone with unshed tears as her brother nodded in confirmation. "I thought she would've taken it down after I ran away."
"She never did. She still loves you. Now come on, let's bring you back to Momma."
