Tigers, Lions, and Bears…Oh My!

Everything moved onto stage and I walked onstage in a brand new outfit. I looked pretty good I have to admit. My long blonde gone black hair fell to my waist and I was standing in front. I wore a white blazer with navy trim and a long blue navy skirt. Puck was walking behind me with his hands in his pocket.

I didn't even truly know he was behind me. I had been doing what I was supposed to do.

Acting.

SABRINA:

(spoken) Toss, toss, toss, toss, toss (I tossed my hair with my hands, feeling kind of ridiculous yet at the same time I was having a lot of fun. I turned, feeling someone's eyes on me)

Ah! (I had forgotten Puck was supposed to be behind me. I had let out a genuine scream of surprise)

What?

PUCK:

(spoken) Nothing. It's just you've been Galinda-fied.

You don't need to do that you know (He actually sounded…annoyed that I had been Galinda-fied or more accurately Fern-afied. He didn't really like Fern but he was attracted to her, that much I knew. Greg walked in quickly, worried. He looked as if someone was actually after him.)

GREG:

(spoken) Take your seats! Class take your seats! (Wow…he's doing pretty good…as if he really had something urgent to say. This is just a play…right? I'm confusified now!)

I have something to say and very little time.

My dear students, this is my last day here at Shiz!

Animals are no longer permitted to teach.

SABRINA:

(spoken) What? (That's not fair! Wait…he's not an Animal…I mean…animal? No an Animal…whoa)

GREG:

(spoken) Please listen, Miss Elphaba. (I sat back down, slowly)

I want to thank you all for sharing with me your enthusiasm.

Your um…your essays, however feebly structured, even on occasion your lunch. (He walked over and patted my hand. A whistle sounded and Belinda as Madame Morrible came on stage. She looked different. Her skin was pasty and she looked like she was really Madame Morrible. But I guess I just never noticed her pasty skin)

BELINDA:

(spoken) Oh, Doctor. I'm so terribly sorry. (I rushed over to her and they started to move a large covered object and a tall dude…I think his name is Ronald came on stage. He was supposed to be some professor guy)

SABRINA:

(spoken) Madame, you can't permit this.

GREG:

(spoken) Miss Elphaba, don't worry about me.

They can take away my job but I will continue speaking out. (Two guys came and started dragging him out)

MASON: (One of the guys whose also a soldier of the Gale Force later. The Gale Force are the Wizard's secret police. Look at me! I'm talking about them like they're real. Well…they are but not anymore…I suppose. Or maybe just like it seems that Elphaba's thoughts are merging with mine so are the Gale Force's with the people who play them!)

Come on, Goat!

GREG:

(Spoken) You're not being told the whole story! Remember that, class.

SABRINA:

(spoken) Doctor Dillamond! (Everyone sat and watched. I crossed over and glared at my classmates. I was starting to get exceedingly emotional and everyone seemed to be responding. I was…I was well, becoming the character. And that sometimes isn't the best thing if your character was about to have a magical outburst…)

Well are we all going to just sit here?

In silence! (Belinda grabbed me from behind, trying to calm me)

BELINDA:

(spoken) Miss Elphaba, I'm afraid there is nothing we can do… (She's lying! I know there is something I can do…if I knew why I wanted to do it that is. What the bloody hell is happening to me?)

SABRINA:

(spoken) But Madame…

BELINDA:

(spoken) Please, my dear, take your seat (She sat me down and I relented. I was still extremely annoyed at being silenced)

RONALD: (Remember that professor guy? Yeah that stupid ass…he's going to take out that poor innocent lion)

(spoken) Good afternoon students.

BELINDA:

Good afternoon…Good afternoon. (She was prompting us)

ALL STUDENTS:

Good Afternoon…

RONALD:

(spoken) More and more every day

With each tick of the Time Dragon Clock

In every corner of our great Oz,

One hears the silence of progress.

For example, this is called a cage. (He pulled up a brown sheet to reveal the lion cub. I gasped and cringed. Puck seemed worried as well and his brow furrowed. The lion cub looked so…lifelike. I was surprised it wasn't…real)

Yes, yes, you'll be seeing more of them in the future

Now this remarkable innovation is

Actually for the Animal's own good (That made me stand up)

SABRINA:

If it's so good for him

Why is he trembling?

RONALD:

He's excited to be here!

That's all. (He hit the cage with a stick, causing the lion cub to tremble. I reach out, horrorstruck as to how he was abusing the poor lion who I wasn't sure if it was real or not. It might've been because it was meowing as a lion cub does and seeing it in there set of an anger that scared me)

As I was saying, one of the benefits of caging

A lion cub this young is that he will never in fact

Learn how to speak (Suddenly, music came on. I looked horrorstruck and looked at Puck.)

SABRINA:

Oh no…

RONALD:

That's right, gather around (Only Puck and I still sat on the benches)

SABRINA:

Can you imagine a world where Animals are kept in cages? (I stood up and looked at him wildly. He looked ready to calm me down but realized that I'd have to do this.)

And they never speak?

RONALD:

He may seem to be a little agitated

But that is easily remedied (He put the cage cover back on)

SABRINA:

What are we going to do? (Everyone knew I was asking Puck. He started to stand and walked over)

Well somebody has to… DO SOMETHING! (I ran over, agitated towards him and lifted my hands. The stage went dark with only a few spotlights on me and Puck. They jumped back and screamed. I was making them move with my magic and I saw all of the Everafters, my family, and curiously even the representatives stiffen as they felt the magic radiating of me. They were dancing uncontrollanly)

PUCK:

What's happening? (He looked worried)

SABRINA:

I…I don't know!

But I got mad and I… (I looked at the students again and they moved to the beat of the music and I looked at them curiously. They were all children of the Everafters. What was curious was that they all had human relatives who most likely knew about magic and they could feel it too…)

PUCK:

Alright just…don't move…

And don't get mad at me!

Well are you coming?(He ran towards the cage and grabbed it. He ran off and I stood there staring before running off. The next part was the coolest. Some spun inwards and leaned forward on the table that the cage was resting on. They jumped backward and someone rushed the table off. About six dancers remained. They twisted and twirled to the music before rushing off. The set was rolled onto stage by the remotes that Red had hooked up with magic. It looked amazing with the bridge and the supposed sunset)

SABRINA:

(spoken) Careful! Don't shake him!

PUCK:

I'm not! (He looked extremely annoyed…at me. It was strange because he was never annoyed at me unless I pulled prank or did something extremely stupid. I focused on his emotions and noticed that they were heightened…and that someone's emotions had melded with his…permanently. Just as someone had done with Fern and mine)

SABRINA:

And…we can't let him loose (We were in the middle of stage and the lion cub was between us)

Just anywhere, you know.

We have to find someplace safe!

PUCK:

I realize that! (He was shouting now and it was real. He was angry that I was treating like he was imbecile. Well, he hasn't really proved that he isn't stupid with his damned pranks…well, that was a while ago but still)

You think I'm really stupid, don't you? (Is that a trick question?)

SABRINA:

No! Not really stupid… (He started fluffing his jackets as if he were trying to let off some steam)

PUCK:

Well…why is it that

Every time I see you, you're causing some

Kind of commotion? (Wrong!)

SABRINA:

I don't cause commotion…

I am one (Right! I tend to be right in the middle of disasters and always thought it was my fault. Then I realized I was the commotion, the disaster)

PUCK:

That's for sure… (He sounded too much like himself. That pissed me off a bit)

SABRINA:

So I should just keep my mouth shut? (I rushed up to him, annoyed)

Is that what you're saying?

PUCK:

No I'm just saying— (He knew he stepped in it and this was slightly real now)

SABRINA:

You think I want to be this way?

Do you think I want to care this much? (I was breathing hard and I looked at him in disbelief and anger)

PUCK:

All I meant—

SABRINA:

(spoken) Do you know how

Much easier my life would be

If I didn't?

PUCK:

Do you ever let anyone else talk? (Of course, I do! I'm just pretty heated and my emotions were melded with someone else's and I felt like this was some kind of freaky déjà vu)

SABRINA:

Oh…sorry…

PUCK:

What I was trying to say— (I looked down and then looked up at him, pleading)

SABRINA:

Can I just say one more thing? (This caused a round of laughs. Puck gave an exasperated sigh. He looked and had sounded extremely pissed but he nodded)

You could've walked away back there…

PUCK:

So…

SABRINA:

So?

No matter how shallow and self-absorbed you pretend to be…

PUCK:

Excuse me! There is no pretense here. (He sounded as if he were amused and yet trying to prove a point)

I happen to be genuinely self-absorbed

And deeply shallow! (Of course, you are Puck. You're the great trickster and king in the world, blah, blah, blah. And the fact that people tell you you're hot just goes to your head)

SABRINA:

No you're not (And now I'm telling the truth. His eyes were silver as he looked at em and I smiled softly at him)

Or you wouldn't be so unhappy here. (He made a noise under his breath as if he couldn't believed that I had just judged him. I hadn't judged. I had just said it as it was)

PUCK:

Fine if you don't want my help… (He started walking away and his eyes were rapidly turning a normal color, blue)

SABRINA:

No! I do… (I ran over and grabbed his hand. The sweet music came back on. We looked down at our hands and then back up at each other. His eyes were pure silver again as he looked down at our joined hands and then back at my face. I let go quickly. I knelt by the cage and looked down at the cub)

His heart is pounding…

I didn't mean to frighten him (He knelt down, hesitantly, as if he were worried about what his precious Fern might do. He loved me, that was obvious but he was still attracted to Fern and since somebody's prescence melded with his emotions for now, that means that someone had attraction for Fern or…the fact that she was the incarnation of someone…GLINDA! He is Fiyero and that means…)

PUCK:

What did you mean to do?

And why was I the only one you didn't do it to? (I didn't say anything to respond to his question)

SABRINA:

(Spoken) You're bleeding!

PUCK:

I am? (I nodded)

SABRINA:

It must have scratched you… (He looked dazed as we stared at each other)

PUCK:

Yeah…or maybe it scratched me or something… (I touched his face with a finger and he jerked away and I dropped my hand, quickly. We got up abruptly)

Oh I gotta get to safety (I looked at him, absolutely hurt that I wasn't safe enough for him. He began to walk away before returning for the cub and I stepped forward as well and then moved back)

I mean…get the cub to safety. (He ran off stage)

SABRINA:

Fiyero! (He didn't take one look back and I took out that damned flower Fern had given me. Damn it all! This song always caused that pain!)

(sung) Hands touch, eyes meet

Sudden silence, sudden heat

Hearts leap in a giddy whirl

He could be that boy

But I'm not that girl: (This song made me break up with him! Damn it all. Thank Goodness that he still loved me. I wonder what was going to happen at curtain call)

Don't dream too far

Don't lose sight of who you are

Don't remember that rush of joy

He could be that boy

I'm not that girl

Ev'ry so often we long to steal

To the land of what-might-have-been

But that doesn't soften the ache we feel

When reality sets back in

Blithe smile, lithe limb

She who's winsome, she wins him

Gold hair with a gentle curl (I smiled softly. I had golden hair with a curl. But he has said he loved me with any kind of hair. He loved me for well…me)

That's the girl he chose

And Heaven knows

I'm not that girl: (I ran back, knowing fully that they could still see me. Fern was pulling him across the bridge when he caught sight of me. He grabbed onto the rail, trying to stop her from pulling him. Puck stared at me, his blue green and orange eyes becoming silver once again. I wonder why it shifts so fast)

Don't wish, don't start

Wishing only wounds the heart

I wasn't born for the rose and the pearl

There's a girl I know

He loves her so

I'm not that girl (Suddenly, Belinda came on stage)

BELINDA:

(Spoken) Miss Elphaba, there you are!

SABRINA:

(Spoken) Madame Morrible… (She held an umbrella and she looked exceedingly happy)

BELINDA:

(Spoken) I finally heard back from the Wizard…

My dear he wishes to meet you

SABRINA:

(Spoken) He asked for me?

Personally?

BELINDA:

(Spoken) Yes! I know how devastate you

Were the other day for our poor Doctor Dillamond

But you see my dear, as one door closes, another one opens (She pulled out a green letter and I eagerly took it from her. I laughed, excitedly and she joined though hers sounded more…evil, I guess)

SABRINA:

(Spoken) I don't know what to say (I gave her a hug and she jumped back but still allowed it)

Oh, Madame how can I ever thank you?

BELINDA:

(Spoken) Oh, careful dear, you mustn't get wet (She gave me the umbrella. Everyone laughed because they knew that I supposedly melted)

Oh, I know! (She stepped out and lifted her hands and the lights got brighter as if the sun came out)

Weather…it's my specialty.

Oz-speed, my dear! I know you'll make me proud.

SABRINA:

(Sung) At last I'll meet the Wizard

And thank Oz it's now because

I can tell about Doctor Dillamond

That something bad is happening in Oz!

When we are making good!

The Wizard and I…

The scene changed and I sighed. We were becoming our incarnations…the people were casted as.
