March 8th, 1941

When I woke up the next morning, it was to Danny shuffling around the room, picking up our clothes and folding mine neatly as he got dressed back into his. I rolled over in the bed and smiled. The sun was shining in through the windows, all that was covering me was sheets and I could smell Danny on the pillow next to me.

"Where are you going?" I asked as he buttoned his shirt. He jumped, unaware I was awake and turned around to me, smiling giddily.

"I was going to pop over to your house, get a spare pair of clothes for you so you didn't have to walk out wearing what you wore last night," he smirked.

"I'm not ashamed," I said sitting up in the bed and wrapping the covers around myself.

"I know, but it's cold and that dress isn't exactly made for people keeping warm," he said softly. He stopped buttoning his shirt and walked over to the bed, jumping on top of me. He rolled around so I was laying on top of him.

"We can just stay here today then," I said kissing his cheeks all over.

"I've got to be get back to base," he told me. I frowned. "We're being moved out somewhere, all this preparation and paperwork has to be done," he sighed.

"Do you know where you're getting moved too?" I asked him. I moved off him and went over to my clothes to start getting ready. I dragged the sheets with me and tried to find my underwear.

"Not sure, they haven't said," he informed me. When I turned to face him, to ask where my undergarments were, he sat their smirking with them in his hand.

"Well, were getting moved to Pearl Harbour, or so they say. Maybe they'll ship you there too?" I asked, snatching my undies away from him.

"Yeah, it'll be different without Rafe," he said softly. I turned around, confused.

"What do you mean without Rafe? He's in your squadron too," I pointed out.

"Yeah, but he's being sent for the Eagles over in England," Danny told me. I gasped. What would make him do that.

"Why is he chasing a war that's not his? Is he stupid!" I asked, starting to get angry. How could Rafe does this? Did Evelyn know?

"He's trying to be a hero, that and Doolittle assigned him," Danny stated, obviously just as upset as I was. I looked over to wear he was. He'd gotten up off the bed and finished he buttons on his shirt moving over to his jacket. His face was pale; Rafe was one of the only people he had left and in a matter of seconds or one mission he could be gone.

"He'll be okay," I said walking up to him and doing up his buttons. "He's a damn good flyer and has the ego to back it up. He'll be okay," I reassured him. He straightened out his uniform and settled his cap. He smiled, thanking me.

"I better get you back before we're all late," he said pulling me in for a hug.

"Will you call when you know where you're getting sent?" I asked him as we left the room.

"Of course. I wouldn't leave without saying good bye," he said holding my hand as we walked down the hallway. "I love you too much."

I blushed suddenly. He only pulled me into his arms and laughed. We bumped into Barbara and Billy waiting for the elevator and when we got in we were met with more girls and their soldiers. It looks like we weren't the only ones having a bit of fun. We all exchanged glances inside the elevator which was highly comical, it wasn't until we got out that Danny burst into manly giggles.

"And I was worried we'd be the only ones," he smirked.

"Forget about it," Barb said waving her hands. "Everyone's wanting to be loved these days. One day you're here, the next you're gone."

"Better late than never," I shrugged. The boys excused themselves to go and pay for the rooms and Barb took her chance, pouncing on me.

"How was it?" she asked. She was no stranger to these late night dalliances and what followed after for sure.

"How was what?" I asked. I was rather embarrassed when she asked about something that was so personal.

"You know," she motioned down towards our lady bits.

"You're too vulgar," I joked. She smirked and shrugged.

"You gotta do what you gotta do," she replied.

"Well, it was very nice," I told her.

"Nice?" she spat, "He's got scratches up and down the back of his neck for crying out loud, it had to be more than nice!" she exclaimed. I felt my face burning up, I didn't even notice the scratches on his neck.

"Fine," I sighed, "it was the best thing you could ever do with the person you loved."

"That's more like it," she said proudly. She stopped talking when the boys returned. We all got in a taxi together and left the hotel.

"Danny, did you like my dress?" she asked him before we arrived at our house.

"Uh, yeah," he said confused.

Barb rolled her eyes. "No, the one Charlotte's wearing. Or were you only focussed on ripping it off?" she winked.

"Barbara!" I exclaimed.

"Time to go ladies," Billy said, popping his head out of the car to kiss his girl. She grabbed his face and gave him a passionate kiss. All I could do was give a small wave to Danny before they was off.

"I'm going to kill you," I said when she turned around. She hurried inside, just missing all my playful hits. It seemed as if our whole crowd was on cloud nine.

March 10th

"Ladies, I've got some exciting news!" Sandra said as she walked into the house that evening after he shift at work.

"What? You won the lotto?" Barb joked.

"No, we've won the lotto!" she exclaimed. We all jumped up.

"How much, how much?" Betty beamed. Usually we all put in for a ticket and every week we waited to see if we'd won, but we hadn't yet.

"Not that lotto!" Sandra explained. We all sat down again.

"Why you gotta go and pull our leg for?" Martha asked as she made dinner.

"Because, we're being transferred to the most wonderful place on Earth," she beamed.

"You can't be serious!" Evelyn exclaimed. "All the rumours were true?".

Sandra nodded and I let out a yell. "We're going to Hawaii!"

"I have to call Red," Betty said running to the phone.

"Do you think the boys will get transferred too?" Barbara asked.

"A possibility, Danny mentioned they were moving," I smiled happily.

"We're going to have so much fun!" Martha said, still stirring dinner. We all turned to Evelyn though who was still smiling, although had removed herself from the conversation. Rafe had left for England yesterday, Abi had been on the phone with me all night wailing like a child. She didn't want him to go, neither did anyone here.

"You alright Ev?" Sandra asked softly.

She nodded, "Yeah, I just wish he was coming with us."

"Don't worry Ev, we don't know if the others are coming with us either. We're just assuming, but if they are, you'll always be welcome with us, you know that," Barb said comforting her.

"I know," she sniffed. We all sat in silence for a bit before Betty walked back into the room.

"Have you guys heard from any of the boys? The number to Billy's bunk isn't working," Betty said softly.

"Maybe they're out?" Sandra asked.

"They have a curfew," Evelyn informed us all. We looked at one another with confused expressions. Barb, Betty, Sandra or I hadn't head from the boys who were pursuing us or dating us since that night on the town. It was only two days so we didn't think much of it, but with Red's number not working, it made us worry.

"They were getting shipped off somewhere," I started trying to figure this out.

"When?" Sandra asked. I shrugged my shoulders.

"Danny said he'd call when he knew."

"How can he call when the phones aren't working?" Betty asked.

"Maybe they've been shipped out already."

"They wouldn't have left without calling, surely," Sandra stated.

From the kitchen, Martha sighed. "You know the army. When they want you gone they'll send you on your way as soon as they can. They probably didn't get the chance to call, that's all. You're all worrying yourself far too much," she said. "Now come on in here, dinner's ready."

We all stood up from our position in the living room and walked into the table in the kitchen. We all sat down with glum faces, our excitement about moving to Pearl Harbour had faded with the disappearance of the boys. But I shrugged it off, he'd call when he could, he said so himself that he loved me too much to not call.

March 22nd

We hadn't heard from the boys in a week and a half. Betty sobbed for a bit as did I as we left New York and still hadn't heard from them, but now that we were in Hawaii, that didn't matter.

"This is so exciting!" Betty remarked as we sat on a boat that was talking us across the harbor to our house. It manoeuvred its way through all the battle ships and we could see the sailors peering down at us.

"You know there are over 100 ships on Pearl," Sandra said as she read from the pamphlet.

"How many sailors per ship?" Betty asked.

"It depends, more on a battleship than a sub," Sandra replied.

"But say, on average," Betty continued. I laughed. It seemed as if she had already forgotten about Red.

"Well, there's the flyers, the marines, base personal," Sandra continued.

"Woah, I'm still working on the sailors," Martha laughed.

"Girls, I think the odds are in your favour," Evelyn assured them.

"Yeah, like ten to one," I smirked. From up above the sailors whistled at us and we gave them a wave.

"See you on the beach boys!" Barbara called out to them.

Betty came around to me and threw her arm around my neck. "We're in Hawaii!". It took a little while longer before we got to our house, but it was worth the wait. It was right on the water and had big, beautiful rooms for us all and a kitchen table big enough for us too. No more trying to fit six people on a table for four.

"Look at this place!" Martha exclaimed.

"It's paradise!" I sighed happily.

"I wonder if the boys ended up anywhere as beautiful as this," Betty sighed. After the distraction of all the sailors, her mind was straight back on Red.

"Who needs 'em?" Barb asked trying to cheer us up.

"Um, I do," I said waving a hand. "I have no idea where Danny is and after all the trouble I went through," I paused shaking my head, "It can't end like this."

"Do't worry, we'll find them," Sandra said soothingly.

"First we need to go do our orientation at the hospital," Martha smiled. "Let's go." We all rushed up and claimed our rooms. I was sharing with Evelyn in this house. We'd never shared a room before, so this was our turn. We got ready and dressed in our uniforms and then took the beautiful walk to the hospital.

We expected it to be busy as more people were located here, but when we got there, we only met with one nurse on duty. We stood at the door eagerly.

"Hi," we waved.

"Hey girls, I've just got to deal with sunburnt fanny," she said pushing back the pants of a sailor, "before I can show you around." She then smacked the sailors but, applying what seemed to be lotion.

"Ow!" he exclaimed. We all giggled as she told him off for not wearing sunscreen. If this was what it was going to be like here, I was ready to stay forever.

When we returned to our house we all sat down on the couch together, rather exhausted from all the travel. Luckily, we didn't start work until next week. They were allowing us a week to settle in and get our bearings before we were reduced to a life of boredom at the hospital. The only cases that came in were sunburn and the occasional big cut from some piece of machinery.

"I don't feel like cooking tonight," Evelyn sighed as we all relaxed.

"Tough luck, it's a Thursday and that's always your day to cook," Sandra grumbled.

"Let's go out, I saw a bar not too far from here where I'm sure we could get some food," Betty perked up.

"That sounds like a good idea. I need a drink after all the moving," Barb explained.

"Alright then, that's fine by me. I could do with some vodka," I smirked.

"After last time, you really want to go there?" Sandra asked, reminding me of all the mess I'd made when we all went out that night.

"I'll just have one, Mum," I joked. We all dispersed and started getting ready. We all came down the stairs in dresses, without a cardigan. It was so hot here you could walk around in your undergarments and still sweat.

We walked down the road towards the bar on the beach, passing other groups who had the same idea. People were out everywhere and the bar was packed. We had to race to get a table and when we did it was at the risk of stealing another group of nurses table who just death stared up.

"What can I get you?" the waitress asked. She had beautiful long black hair and a flower behind her ear.

"Six burgers please!" Betty ordered for us. She nodded.

"Anything to drink?" she smiled politely.

"You're strongest shots please, and then some coca cola," Barb shouted. Sandra shook her head disapprovingly as the waitress walked off.

"I'm not doing shots," she told us all.

"Why?" Martha and Betty whined.

"Come on Sandra, have some fun won't you," Evelyn said bumping her softly.

"Yeah, it's just one shot," I told her as the waitress returned with our shots and drinks.

"Just one," she said giving in. We all cheered.

"Here's to Pearl Harbor!" Betty exclaimed.

"And the best time of our lives!" Martha finished off.

"Cheers!" we shouted. And in one quick swoop, we all drank our shots and started coughing. It was rather strong.

"Another round!" Betty cheered. Sandra shook her head, but none the less joined us in our second round of shots. It was when we were about to get our third one, that the band called for singing volunteers.

"Charlie! You should go up there! I'll come with you," Barbara exclaimed excited.

"I'll come too! We can be like the Andrews Sisters," Betty smirked.

"Alright, let's go!" I said, and we shuffled out of the booth, our friends cheering behind us.

"What would you like ladies?" the drummer asked.

"The Andrews Sisters latest one, thanks hon," Barbara flirted with him. He smiled and began the song.

"He was a famous trumpet man from out Chicago way," we started. "He had a famous boogie style that no one else could play."

I looked out over the crowd of men as they cheered and saw a head whip around so fast I almost couldn't believe it. I shook Betty's arm and pointed; when she saw Red she practically leaped of the stage leaving Barbara and I too finish the song. When we did thought, we headed staright over to the boys.

"You didn't call!" I yelled at Danny as he came in for a hug. I pushed him away, holding him close, but not close enough for his liking.

"I couldn't, we weren't allowed to use the phones," he stated.

"And when you arrived here you didn't even call!" I continued.

"I tried, but whoever picked up said you'd left and they didn't know where you were going," he explained.

"But you're here," I smiled pulling him closer.

"And I finally got to hear you sing," he smiled as he nuzzled my neck. I lifted his head up and kissed him hard. We were here in Hawaii together, nothing could be more perfect right now.

Don't forget to review! Much love! xx
