Authors note: Happy Pride Month! Alright with that out there we can continue. This will be a Sashanne fanfic set in their senior year of High School. What transpires here...may or may not be canon considering, spoiler, the creator doesn't appear to work on who they wind up with...so will this lead to the 10 year later? I haven't quite decided so this could be an entirely au vibe depending where this falls or if you decide to even read it. That being said this will entail romance between two female characters and hard to say how you will take it, the reader, so, up to you if you get past this or even the summary. Far as right now I don't see any characters from Amphibia showing up, the place, not the show.
Amphibia: Out of the closet
CH.1: Sasha
Sasha Waybright was home after spending what felt like a year of her life in Amphibia. To be home, well, it felt...different. She had commanded respect and fought in many battles but now that she was home...it meant adjusting to life as a teenage human girl. True she had Marcy and Anne, and, they were all more or less different people from before, but, part of her yearned for a sword in her hand and impossible odds stacked against her.
Sasha couldn't believe that she would never see Grime again or the rest of the Toads she had become good friends with. To be fair though the Plantar family had also rubbed off on her...ok and maybe all of Wartwood as well. She was a Senior now in High School and about to start the first semester. Yeah...a few years had passed but to this day she and Marcy and Anne were still close knit as can be.
Looking around her room she enjoyed seeing pictures of her friends but also of the many female role models she had. Truth is her time in Amphibia had also awakened something in her she had yet to speak to anyone about. Truth be told she wasn't even sure if her parents would understand given how they wanted different things for her then she wanted.
"Sasha you are going to be late for your first day back!" Sasha was shaken from her thoughts but considering she was already dressed she mostly had to get downstairs and maybe grab a poptart before heading out. Huh, hard to believe tasting normal human food after all this time was still an adjustment.
"I'm coming!" Sasha hurried to the kitchen grabbing the tinfoil of a strawberry poptart at the chagrin look of her mother seated at the table.
"Sasha where is your head these days? Why is it that you fail to share a proper meal with your own mother?" Sasha was hurt by that but honestly ever since coming back she was trying to still make things up to Marcy and...well...Anne, and, perhaps she was leaving her mom out of a lot of that.
"I'm sorry, um, tell you what we can have a nice family dinner tonight and I can tell you how things went on the first day of Senior year. I just really have to get going now...and...with that I am out the door!"
Sasha knew that her mother didn't deserve this treatment and perhaps she was a bit fixated on certain things, but, considering how she had lived before coercing her friends into doing things and maintaining a superior lifestyle...it pained her to think that all it took was one slip and she'd back to the way she was then.
To be fair on herself it wasn't all her fault. Her mother was a high executive of sorts who commanded others into following her lead, like, there was real fear in the eyes of the employees under her. Meanwhile her father was a lawyer, a Prosecutor at that...and while her parents were no longer together she still saw the both of them when she had games to go to or even plays she was in. Both of Anne and Marcy's parents were still together so part of her acting out at times also stemmed from only being able to see one parent at a time and living with her mother right now.
Sasha dropped her bag into the vehicle she had been given shortly after coming home from Amphibia. It was a sporty red vehicle that was pretty pricey but not so pricey that her parents wouldn't be hurting much from it. Right now Marcy had failed her driven portion of the driving test a number of times and Anne...well...getting past the written portion was a bit of a struggle on her part. Sasha didn't mind picking up her friends though, even though her father was a bit disappointed she didn't yet have a boyfriend.
The first one she picked up was Marcy since she was closer. "Hey Mar Mar!" Sasha pulled to a stop along the curb waiting. Marcy came out beaming a smile her way. Hard to believe she was once linked to the Core and trying to kill her.
"Oh hey Sasha...you wouldn't believe the night I had-." Marcy was a hard core gamer and puzzle enthusiast but also into board games, like, dungeons and...she could've sworn she had the last part memorized by now.
"I can tell by the bags under your eyes. Look Marcy, this is our Senior year, got any like big plans or something?" Sasha watched as Marcy considered that...right before she fell to the ground.
"Oops, forgot to tie my shoes. Well...not entirely sure. I was thinking of joining the chess club, seems like a lot of fun...sort of reminds me what Andrias and I played back in Amphibia-."
"I see," Sasha watches her tie her shoes before she joins her in the car in the back. "Say Marcy, how can you still think of Andrias that way after he-?"
"Tricked me and had the Core take over my mind? I was hurt sure but he was hurting much more. His father put him in a terrible position and pretty much laid out a lot of his life to join the Core, kind of messed up really. Plus he did redeem himself by helping us out in the big battle. To be honest he was really nice and caring to me in the beginning. I'm sure you and Grime were similar that way."
Sasha wanted to argue that wasn't the case, but, she had wound up a prisoner but eventually teamed up with Grime. Considering she wouldn't comment on this issue further she starts up the engine and begins to drive to Anne's house. The thought of seeing Anne again melted her heart and made her cheeks heat up. While they had seen each other a bit during the summer Anne had traveled to Bangkok to visit relatives with her family so it was mostly texts or video chats. The wind blew in her blonde hair and she put on some music to take away the awkward silence.
Authors note: Anyway this was the first chapter. To be honest I had missed out on the last four episodes so I caught reaction videos to them. Even so I am a Sashanne shipper so do not expect a Marcanne in this, those who showed up for that will be disappointed. Apart from that next chapter we pick up with Anne.
