"At the top of a mountain, one that stands high above the clouds, a thousand steps leading up to the top. There stands a temple, but not just any temple; A monastery. One that belongs to the most indomitable warriors to ever walk our lands. Fast, cunning, swift, agile; strong. All could be used to describe those who lived in the monastery, but that is not today's tale. For today's tale; we need time. Our Story begins at the monastery, where many different families were training together…"
"Hey; that's not fair!" Jay's startled voice filled my ears, making me look up from the punching bag. "When in battle nothing is ever fair Jay." Cole shot back with a sarcastic tone. "According to my sources, Cole is correct." Pixel's voice echoed from the top of her mech, where she had been working. "Shut it Pixel!" Jay's voice echoed back with a slight hint of amusement. A couple small giggles filled my ears as I glanced beside me. Mom was standing off to the side with Libber and Lily. "Hey Mom." I couldn't help but smile as her eyes glowed when I spoke. "Hello darling." I glanced around, taking note of who was around us. Nya was helping Pixel with her mech, Jay and Cole were sparing, Morro and Zane were tending to their spiritual dragons, while Lloyd was out on patrol but I couldn't help but notice there were a couple of people missing. "Where's dad?" I asked, glancing at mom. She sighed "Oh, you know him. He's working on some weapons. Can't go one day without making something." She stated, gritting her teeth, obviously annoyed that he couldn't relax. "Common Maya, you know he can't help it. After being forced to work for so long it's hard to go back to normal." I looked down at the ground, counting the cracks from the abundance of use trying to ignore the conversation going on beside me. You should have known it was him. As much as I've been told otherwise, the voice was still there. It was so obvious, how could you have missed it? How could have anyone missed it? Mid-day, sword held up to them. Why didn't anyone say anything?! Everything was muffled, not that it mattered, it was usual for him to go quiet suddenly more recently. What would you do if they came back? Certainly that wasn't the end right? If Wu made it back, what makes him so certain they didn't? I felt a nudge on my shoulder, snapping me out of the trance I was in as I glanced up at the ghost floating beside me. He cocked his head to the side slightly, silently asking the question I knew he was thinking. I nodded, not wanting to elaborate more. "You know, we should have a family night tonight. You, Ray and your kids should go out and do something. Spend a little time together. I can spend time with Jay here, I'm sure he would enjoy a video game championship between him and I. It's about time Cole and you visited Lue, Lilly. It also would give time for the Garmadons to spend together. After everything that had happened, they deserve it." Liber suggested with excitement, catching my attention again. "And the Smiths don't? They have been through just as much being enslaved by Krux and shit…" Morro caught my attention, mumbling under his breath in annoyance. I raised an eyebrow as he glanced at me but didn't say anything. "What was that Morro?" Lily asked from behind me. I watched Morro stiffen before quickly covering for himself, though I'm not sure if it was much of a cover as he was stating the truth. "It's nothing, I just haven't really talked to Wu much after everything that's happened. I'm not sure how things would go after so many years of us fighting and my horrible action that I still haven't fully repaid the debt to. Yes I helped Cole become human again but I feel like it's not enough to fix what I did." I looked down at the ground thinking about his words before a voice caused me to snap my head back up.
"That's because you can't fix what you did." Jay walked over, putting his nunchucks back. "You destroyed part of an entire town, you stole ancient artifacts, turned Cole into a ghost and possessed Lloyd after already tormenting that poor security guard. That stuff is impossible to fix, you can't reverse the trauma and devastation you caused." Jay stated, looking Morro in the eye. I watched Jay, shocked by the bluntness. "But that doesn't mean you can't move on from what you did and use those experiences to better yourself now."
"Jays right, besides; it's not like you're the first person who wants to fix their mistakes. The Serpentine is a good example of that, to make up for their past war with the humans they decided to live underground and not meddle in human affairs, but they still help out where they can when they need to step in." Cole stated, walking over to the huddle that was slowly created. "And Skylar choose to fight against her own father after working for him for so long and now just lives her life, taking care of the noodle shop as she chooses to be someone to lean on for anyone who needs it, not because she is forced to." Nya called from the top of the mech. "Hell, even Pixel wasn't good in the beginning. Infected by the overlord she literally tried to kill us and a group of kids but after being freed by Zane she found a new meaning in life and became the samurai!" Jay's voice echoed. I glanced at Morro with a small smile. "But that's different, they were all forced and tricked, I did what I did on my own volition. You all have always followed the same goals and path but I did not, out of my own rage I nearly killed Lloyd and Master Wu, not to mention I tried throwing Kai off a cliff after he failed to drown!" Morro exclaimed, glancing around at everyone, not noticing Wu and Garmadon walking out of the building behind him. "You all have always done the right thing, I haven't!" Morro took a step forward to make it clear he was talking to Cole, Jay and Nya. Pixel hopped down from her Mech, Zane following. "That's not true." I blurted out without thinking. I saw Morro's shoulders drop before he spun around to look at me with a questioning look. The others behind him, just as confused. I took a deep breath before finally adding my input to this conversation.
"When Wu first found me I was an awful human being. Only thinking of myself and what I needed to do for me to survive. I couldn't care less what happened to the others as long as Nya and I were safe. As you can imagine, this caused quite a few problems. I almost allowed Lloyd to die because of my greedy nature back then and it's not only me who has mistakes like that. While my problems are more prominent the others have made decisions that jeopardized the greater good as well," I started, motioning to Nya. "Nya was so adamant on proving she can go in the field with the team she created Samurai-x as a way to do so, but while doing so she drugged, taunted and jeopardized us on multiple occasions in an effort to keep her other self a secret." Nya scratched her neck, looking at the ground. "Well, when you put it like thaaaat…" she trailed off. I motioned to Zane. "Zane had put his desire to save the falken above the mission's priority. Causing him to run into garmadons camp, completely littered with stone warriors, getting us caught when we were supposed to remain hidden." Morro looked at Zane who looked at the ground as well. "I may have had a lapse in judgment." He stated. I nodded looking at Cole and Jay. "Cole and Jay literally almost killed each other during the tournament because they let their feelings get in the way, jeopardizing the entire team in the process." Jay and Cole looked at each other. "Yeah definitely not our finest moment." Cole started with a small laugh. Jay chuckled as well. "Master Wu disobeyed his father causing problems for us in the future." I stated bluntly before giving Morro a small smile. "Hell, even the green ninja himself has done some really bad things!" I exclaimed. Morros eyes widened before he looked at me in doubt. "I find that hard to believe." He stated bluntly.
"Oh believe me, I did." I looked up at Lloyd as he landed his dragon after returning from patrol. "Believe it or not, I am the reason the Serpentine roam free. I was so determined to be like my father when I was younger and caused problems that now seem so miniscule to the full scheme of things yet are just as important to remember. Besides, if I never released the serpentine, I wouldn't be where I am today. I would show you my old cloak to prove it to you, but I lost it a while ago." Morro glanced around at all of us. "So you all have made mistakes before that could have killed each other, yet you still remain a team?" I nodded. "I know it's a difficult thing to grasp, it was hard for me to accept it when I joined. After being alone for so long it's hard to believe teamwork is a normal thing to have."
"Spoken like true masters." We all looked up at Wu as he stepped closer, his staff hitting the ground with a thud with each step. "It is true that we all have made mistakes, and some of those mistakes will haunt us for our entire lives but it's what you do with the memory of those mistakes that matters. You can choose to acknowledge it, and find a way to improve yourself, or you can choose to believe what you did was truly the right call. Both of which are entirely under your control." He glanced around at all of us with a small smile. "But I believe that's a conversation for tonight Morro. I think Liber's idea of a family night is very much needed. You all have been doing well with your training and deserve a break. Training ends now, we will see each other again later tonight. I wish you all the best on your break."
