Scene Two - Roger Rabbit
Draco sees a picture of Hermione in the newspaper, he tries not to look at it but he can't help himself. She's lost weight, he notices, wearing a navy pencil dress that hangs off her strangely. She's wearing large sunglasses and attempting to cover her face but he can still see how pale and sickly she looks.
So many people must be revelling in this right now; the Golden Girl fallen from grace. She's been erratic lately, angry at times, but mostly she just seems sad.
He runs into her a couple of months after the article in a restaurant. She looks right at him and the look in her eye makes him want to cry. She looks like she's screaming for him to help her.
He doesn't, he looks away until she's passed him. He tries not to think about how he failed her. He should help her, he thinks. She deserves this, another part of him thinks. He doesn't know which part of him is right.
He loves her, but he can't help her.
