Scene Three - Stomach Tied In Knots
She's at a Ministry Gala, trying not to fidget in her uncomfortable silver beaded dress, knowing the cameras will be pointed at her, especially if Draco comes. She's sure he will.
She shouldn't have worn silver, she thinks, trying to look like she's interested in what this Ministry official is saying to her, they'll think it was for him.
It wasn't, she tells herself. She meant what she said; she didn't love him.
He arrives, stepping out a car with a beautiful blonde on his arm. Hermione knows her, Astoria Greengrass. She looks radiant. He looks handsome. They look in love.
It hurts, more than she thought it would. She thought she'd run out of hurt but it turns out she had plenty left.
"I'll always love you." That's what he had said to her, she'd been leaving him and he'd still loved her, but he doesn't anymore.
Hermione wonders if she truly didn't love him, there's not point to it; he's moved on, but she can't help it.
She'd been scared, she hadn't wanted to admit that, but she had been so scared. Her immediate reaction had been to end it before she got hurt.
