Since English is not my native language, I use a translator to help me. So please, be indulgent!
Just an urge like that after seeing this Nintendo perfection. I am one of those who were completely seduced. Really, if you haven't seen it yet, I urge you to go see Super Mario Bros in theaters! Fan or not, you will be delighted. It's really amazing and the nostalgia does a great job, for me anyway.
I've always had a crush on Bowser, so I'm letting my emotions speak through a few lines that for the moment only lead to an OS, but it's likely to change. It's just an idea that came to my mind, without any pretention. Since the time I wanted to do something in this fabulous universe... I wanted to try something a bit poetic with a song I particularly like. It's good to sometimes put our emotions on paper, to share our feelings.
Disclaimer: I don't own any Nintendo characters, the movie or anything else.
Very light UA. Warning, spoilers!
Song : Cover Running Up That Hill by Rachel Hardy
Sing for me
It was said that solitude allowed us to face personal failures, to find new perspectives of life, to widen our horizons. To reflect on the meaning of our existence. This same solitude that could cause us harm, sometimes even do us more harm than good. To take a step back to be able to realize that some things will remain unchanged, despite all the efforts invested to have a semblance of control over our destiny.
But fate was capricious.
He had run away. He had run away to try to find this famous solitude that would allow him to take stock. Simply to escape, for a moment, just to take a little time to reflect on his many attempts that had resulted in bitter failure. After his public humiliation in Brooklyn by the mustachioed brothers, Bowser wished he had the ability to disappear instead of ending up in that little golden cage in His Majesty's palace. Wounded in his pride, ridiculed on a daily basis. A cramped place, too small for him.
He had succeeded in deceiving the vigilance of the guards for a short time to escape through the window, using his shrinking power up to make a fall of several floors into the little frequented gardens. Then he had just fled, far from everything, far from this kingdom he had coveted for years. Without a backward glance. Looking for this solitude that he had missed so much without anyone asking him a thousand and one questions about his defeat that he would rather forget as soon as possible.
Sitting on a small planet drifting in the distant galaxy, the King of the Koopa was thinking. He was thinking about what could have happened, what should have happened if the brothers had not interfered with his evil plans to gain power. He would have become the King of the Mushroom Kingdom by the side of his tender and beautiful golden-haired princess. The same princess who once again refused his proposal of marriage on the grounds that she did not love him. And also possibly because he was threatening to destroy everything that mattered most to her, but that was just a small detail.
Her silky hair, her piercing blue eyes, her pretty pink dress... Was this really love? Or was he in love with the power she could offer him? That was the big existential question for Bowser, who was taking advantage of this short respite for a moment to himself, away from the world of his castle and away from all his infuriating advisors. No one understood him. No one knew what he really felt... Inside that solid shell. His heart of stone split in two as he looked down sadly at his clawed hands, torn between two desires that animated him from as far back as his memories went.
He should get used to it. He would never be a match for his rival. She had called him a monster, but he didn't see himself as a monster, rather as a conqueror with a philosophy all his own. Why didn't she see all his efforts? Why did she insist on seeing only this small part of him? He would have fulfilled her by offering her everything she wanted. He would have offered her all the territories that this world had, he would have covered her with gifts and jewels, he would have made sure that she would never lack anything...
So why didn't he compete with Mario? What did he have that he didn't?
Was he that ugly? Of course he was not human, but he had a lot of charisma and above all a superhuman strength! He knew how to make decisions and concessions, such as not slaughtering all the mushroom people in exchange for his hand. He was merciful, what more did he need to understand that he was the best choice? What did he have to do to finally impress her? He could also sing and play the piano, he could be sensitive when he wanted to.
His princess... She was his, whether she liked it or not. Her opinion didn't matter to him after all, as long as he got what he wanted, the rest didn't matter! However his reflections painfully nagged at his heart of stone, drawing a small indignant grimace from him. Unless he was destined to drift like this on his little grey planet for the rest of his life until he returned to dust... To brood forever, to relive his many failures, each one heavier than the last.
Locked in his own solitude.
It doesn't hurt me ...
Bowser froze when he thought he heard a voice somewhere in the infinite space.
You want to feel how it feels?
You want to know, know that it doesn't hurt me? You
want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, you and me
And if I only could ...
No, he was not dreaming. A voice was echoing in the distant galaxy. Someone was softly singing a melody...
Make a deal with God ...
He didn't know this song, but it was pretty with a hint of melancholy that embraced his heart, so much so that it surprised him. That female voice was bewitching, mesmerizing as her words beamed across the galaxy. Multicolored stars crossed the void of space as he stood up to search for the origin of that voice with its overwhelming notes. He felt a whole host of emotions that he was not used to feeling, which pushed him to cross the distance.
Be running up that building
If I only could, oh
You don't want to hurt me
Charmed by the amazing power she had, the giant Koopa jumped from planet to planet in search of the girl who sang this incredible melody. He was attracted by her, wanting to find out who had this wonderful voice... She was squeezing his heart more and more, she was titillating a feeling of serenity in him... Something he hadn't felt for a long time.
"C'mon, baby, c'mon darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling
Let's exchange the experience ...
Browsing the shooting stars and the vast, spectacularly colored galaxy, Bowser was getting closer to the voice. He was close to the goal, he was sure. Almost eagerly, he searched the small stars and then the larger ones in his path, scanning the planets with a single glance in fear that the song would end without his growing curiosity being satisfied.
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems
Intrigued but totally seduced, the fire-breathing turtle landed calmly on a round planet that was covered with a green carpet with small colored flowers on its surface. Lost in this empty space, she was drifting like her sisters towards an unknown destination. Somewhere where no one could ever find them.
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God ...
He had finally found it. The source of all the commotion. Immersed in her melancholy melody, the female figure was turned toward the great void to offer her voice to the silent galaxy. Sitting in the soft grass, the human dressed in a white dress had long wavy hair hanging down her back. Her red hair looked like molten lava... It was like fire, a color he had never had the opportunity to see on a human.
If I only could, I'd be running up that hill
He wanted to reach out his clawed fingers to touch her long, shining hair but the song continued, and so he found himself totally captivated by the fragile beauty who had not realized that she was no longer alone. Sitting there with her back to him, the human offered her heart to the great void... Her voice lost forever in that distant echo without ever hoping to receive a return.
You, you and me
You and me won't be unhappy ...
Something stirred inside him every time he heard her sublime voice. He couldn't identify it, but this enchanting creature had an incredible soothing power over him. All his anger, all his disappointment, his frustration and his sorrow vanished to the rhythm of her song... How was it possible? What was this witchcraft? Perplexed, Bowser approached the human however he was in the incapacity to interrupt her so much this voice resounded in him.
The stars continued to move across the colorful sky above their heads, making this moment very special. Authentic and moving. He wanted this precious moment of bliss to last, never to end. He wanted to be able to listen to it over and over again without anything upsetting him. To never feel pain again, to never feel sadness or disappointment. Just to stay there and listen to this extraordinary melody.
If I only could, I'd be running up that hill
If I only could, I'd be running up that hill
The song ended on a much sadder note, which upset the Koopa King. He didn't want it to end! It would never stop! He wanted to feel its bewitching vibrations, he wanted to listen to this hypnotic melody again, to be lulled by it... Forever.
His fascination and selfishness soon got the better of him. His menacing shadow loomed over the frail figure, and then he seized it with a sudden gesture, trapping the terrified creature in his sharp claws. With a predatory smile, Bowser laughed evilly before leaping off the planet to his ship to await his return.
Taking his precious treasure with him.
To be continued ...
