Zak entered his home quickly. He wanted to drown out the day he had with mindless television. Wadi had followed him all day. She was stubborn and wouldn't hang out with anyone else. She had said that they were just being nice not sincere. But since he was sincerely mean, she thought he would make the perfect friend. Yep, he attracted all the weirdoes. He walked into the kitchen and filled a cup with water. He took a sip and started to relax. Unlike most kids he came home to an empty house. Which was fairly normal for him.
He walked to the fruit bowl and grabbed and apple. He chewed thoughtfully. He knew more about the world than many people did. He knew nature's horrid mysteries. And he knew that many things were laced with deep meaning, according to his paranoid uncles. Like how a marigold growing on the side of the road meant death laid ahead. He learned that this wasn't always true, but Doyle always seemed superstitious.
I mean what kind of guy carries an oxygen reserve with four hour supply? Only Doyle. Who spent five hours learning the language of flowers so he didn't accidently curse someone? Only Doyle. Who hated black cats with a passion? Only Doyle. Who beat Zak for breaking a mirror? Actually, that one was Van Rook. But it was more a playful fighting. Like he said, everything costs money.
Zak turned on the television to see a news broadcast. He left the channel alone. Unlike his peers, he didn't watch dramas or cartoons. He wanted to go with Van Rook and Doyle on more missions. So he had to know what was going on in the world. On the screen was something unexpected. A cryptid fight in a small town. It would seem as though two people in orange lab suits were fighting a Himalayan drac. It was an uncommon Cryptid known for appearing out of the snow and dragging people into its lair like quicksand.
One was a woman and the other a man. They looked married. And with his trained eye, he saw his uncles in the background. Not in their masks. But dressed as civilians. Zak smiled. So those two were Solomon and Drew. They looked not much older than Doyle. Heck, they could've been his parents.
He listened as they talked about these two and their heroic actions. But could get no interviews. Like all other secret scientists, they left before hounded by reporters. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. They looked American. At least when it came to their actions. He was able to pick up on it when he heard what they were saying under the droning of the reporter. He walked over to their computer and typed in Solomon and Drew Scientists. A few files came up. But he quickly found the "Secret Scientist" files. It took him about an hour to hack into their system. It had so many fire walls he didn't even think Argost would've believed it.
Zak did end up finding Drew and Solomon's home. He also learned that Solomon was often times called Doc. And they didn't live too far away. While the family's away, little Zakie will play. He grabbed some concussion grenades from Doyle's stash and some throwing knifes Van Rook hid in his room. He then put on a black undershirt and Black army pants. He put on steel toed shoes as well. He walked to his room and slipped on the mask that was given to him on his birthday. It looked exactly like Van Rook's. It was a tad too big but it wasn't too loose. He opened his window and saw the vast amount of trees. The Saturday's shared these woods with them. He jumped from tree to tree not knowing if they had anything planted on the ground. Okay so he was somewhat paranoid.
He was very quiet as he made his way through the trees. His sight felt more vivid. As if everything was clearer. And he had 20-20 vision. It was as if it was something about the land. Or the adrenaline. It raced through his veins. He imagined he was climbing with cryptids, like his uncles had done before. He imagined the patting of the feet that they would make if they were with him. He heard the animals of the area become restless, almost like how he felt. It wasn't long before he came across their home.
It was very sci-fi. The nerds would've loved it. He sneaked close to the home.
"What are you doing?" asked a familiar voice. Zak jumped. Wadi was right behind him.
"What are you doing here?" he countered.
"I asked first," Wadi countered back.
"I'm uh, here to visit my neighbor," he said quickly.
"Oh! So we're neighbors?" she asked. Zak resisted the urge to face palm himself.
"Well you should take off your mask," she said giving it a quick tug showing Zak's face. She stared at him for a moment and then gave him a soft smile.
"So my friend is my neighbor," she said pulling him to his feet.
"So, uh, Wadi, you're parents live here?" he asked. He knew their was no way Wadi was Doc and Drew's kid. She was so unlike them.
"Well I'm actually spending time with a family friend. My dad is working out things back home with all these political things."
Zak had a puzzled look. Then he realized her dad must be… a politician. The only thing more evil than Argost.
"Um, okay."
"So is your family big friends with the Saturday's?"
"Yes," said Zak quickly. Wadi smiled and led him inside. He was surprised how easy this was going to be, "Any way, they told me about this stone called the Kur stone and they said I could take a look at it," he said.
"Well, it's not here," she said.
"What?"
"They hid it."
"Really," he whined.
"But there is something really cool I can show you."
They traveled through the house until they came across a lone room at the end of a hallway. She opened the door slowly. Inside were many different relics from the past that would've easily made these guys filthy rich. But one stood out in particular. It looked like the talons of a bird. It was clenched together as if it was holding something. As Zak focused on it, he could swear he saw it open just a little.
Kay peeps, please review!
