His eyes were mesmerized. The claw thing just stood out. It was as if it was supposed to be his. He walked up to it. Wadi walked up behind him and looked at it too. Just then Zak knew it wasn't his imagination. It opened up fully. Zak and Wadi jumped. Both landing on their butts. Zak stood back up. Then, in a courteous gesture, he helped Wadi up.

"Does that thing always do that?" he asked.

"No. That is the hand of Tsul 'Kalu. It has never done that before," she answered. She looked slightly frightened. Then she was excited. She ran to grab a camera. She hit record.

"So cool! It's never moved before."

Zak suddenly felt uncomfortable being in such a strange place. He walked toward the door, as if it would take some of the weirdness away. As he walked to the door he heard Wadi gasp. He looked back and saw the hand close. She grabbed him and moved him closer. It opened just a bit. She pushed him back toward the door and it closed again.

"Fascinating," she said rather intrigued about what was happening. Zak felt like he was now a science experiment for a weird girl who had nothing better to do. He felt like he really needed to get out of there soon. No, more like now. He felt oddly warm, despite being dressed so lightly.

"Uh Wadi," he started.

"Yes Zak?" she asked with great enthusiasm.

"I need to be heading home," he said as he inched his way toward the door.

"Wadi?" said a voice. Wadi walked toward the wall and pulled out a computer screen. It was Drew. Zak cursed his luck under his breath.

"Oh Mrs. Saturday come up and see! The hand of Tsul 'Kalu is doing something most unusual," she said. She turned to get Zak over to her, but he was gone. Without a trace.

Zak was hanging from outside the window of the crazy old stuff room. He would've liked to raid it but she would've noticed. But he didn't leave empty handed. He found that there was something else in the room that looked very much like the hand at first glance. In his back pocket was the actual hand. He quickly made his way down the building. He almost felt like saying sorry to Wadi because of all the trouble he was giving her. But then again, without giving people trouble, how can you be a successful mercenary?

He quickly got himself back into the trees, moving in rhythmic strides toward home. As he drew near, he smelled a nice grilled steak cooking on their grill. He sighed. Doyle and Van Rook were waiting for him on the porch.

"And where were you?" asked Van Rook. Zak looked at his uncles.

"Nowhere in particular," he said shifting his wait from his heel to toe and back to heel.

"Rule number 15…," began Doyle.

"When you don't give a location it means you're hiding something," finished Zak.

"Exactly. So where were you mini-man?"

"Just in the woods outside our house."

"For two hours?" asked Van Rook.

"Time flies," said Zak. Especially if you deal with a crazy classmate in order to help your uncles with their job in order to prove that they don't need to treat you like a little kid anymore.

"Alright," said Doyle who looked too tired to argue with his favorite kid. Even Van Rook looked too tired. Zak ate dinner with them while he told about his school day. He'd tell them about the hand later. Once they had forgotten that he had been gone for a long period of time.

When they were done they all went to their respected rooms. Zak sat as he heard his uncles' fall asleep. The walls were always thin. And he slept in the room between theirs. He pulled the hand from his pocket. It was rough against his skin. He felt as though it was a part of him. He held it up so he could see it better in the light. It almost seemed to glow. He moved it down. And to his shock, it really was glowing. He dropped it quickly, like it was on fire.

It still had a small spark of glowing. But it quickly died down. He picked it up again. It glowed again. And then he heard a scratching sound. Outside his window. Cautiously he moved to the window. He was lucky to still have the concussion grenades on him. He walked toward the window. But he never got the chance to open it, because it smashed. In reached a hand. A large and fuzzy hand. Almost monkey like. Against his training as a mercenary, he screamed at the top of his lungs. The creature only moved faster. Its hand covering his mouth. He tried to yell but couldn't he watched as a very tall and hairy creature made its way through the window.

It had huge eyes. Luminescent. Bright orange. Its eyes darted around the room. It looked at Zak's hand. It reached for it quickly. Zak could tell it was after the hand of Tsul 'Kalu. He wasn't surprised that his uncles hadn't heard him. They were quite tired after all. But that didn't stop him from hoping that they would come in soon. He was in a tug-of-war with something that looked like a skinny gorilla with cat eyes.
