This one-shot is a bit different than the rest I've written, but I couldn't get this idea out of my mind until I wrote it down, I had a bit of trouble where to end it but I hope you like it!
Caroline's vision went blurry from the tears that fell from her eyes, she couldn't breathe and began gasping for air, as she reached out for the nearest object to put her weight on she found Stefan and leaned into him as she collapsed, his arms went around her like a vice allowing her legs to give way whilst he took her weight, holding her close as she sobbed loudly, she clutched Stefan using all her vampire strength and gave up control.
She didn't care that she fell to the floor, she didn't care that she couldn't find air in between her sobs, she didn't care that everyone in the room was watching her fall apart, all she cared was the her best friend Bonnie was dead. Gone.
She had arrived at the mansion because Elena told her everyone needed to talk, when she arrived she was met with grim faces, no one smiled or answered as she said "why the sudden meeting? What's happened"
That's when Elena told her about Bonnie, she couldn't hear anything after Elena said the words "Bonnie's gone Caroline, she died" she could see Elena was trying to stay strong for everyone even though she was sobbing as she broke the news.
Caroline needed to get out of the mansion, she gathered all her strength as she pushed herself up from the floor and let go of Stefan, using all the vampire speed she could find in herself she ran from the house and through the woods and kept running, she hoped no one had followed her, she needed to be alone and there was only one place in this town no one would think to look for her and that's where she ran.
When she arrived at the originals mansion she stopped running once she was inside the front door and alone, in silence.
The family had left Mystic Falls 7 months ago and hadn't been heard from since; apart from the few voicemails Klaus had left her, trying to persuade her to join him in New Orleans.
The house was untouched, all the furniture remained intact as if the owners left in a hurry, which Caroline guessed they didn't bother about simple things like that when they could compel themselves everything they wanted, she headed straight for the liquor cabinet she saw on the far side of the room and pulled open the door, it was still full, she grabbed the nearest bottle of whiskey and began to drink, hoping to numb the pain which was burning inside of her. It felt as though someone had ripped out her heart and held it in front of her to see as she felt the agony tear through her; she couldn't think straight, all she wanted was to hug her best friend again.
After drinking the contents of the bottle Caroline screamed launching the bottle at the wall and watching it smash into tiny pieces,
"NO, NOOOOO" she didn't want to believe the world could be so cruel, though she knew it could.
She turned her attention onto the furniture around her and began smashing up everything she could get her hands on, screaming and sobbing whilst creating destruction. When she couldn't stand it any longer she grabbed another bottle of liquor and sank to the floor her hand landing on broken glass she ignored the pain and blood that began to flow, it was nothing compared to how she felt inside.
She sat like this for what could have been weeks, she didn't care, time meant nothing to her, the sun set and the room began filling with darkness but still she made no attempt to move, she just drank and sat on the cold floor, hoping her pain would turn into numbness.
Bonnie was her best friend since kindergarten, her Elena and Bonnie had all planned out the rest of the lives together, they were like sisters and now she was gone, just like that.
When the sun began to raise again Caroline realized it must be morning, she had been there all night, she thought about how worried her friends must be, but she needed time.
That's when she heard the front door open and footsteps approach her, she didn't care who it was, they couldn't hurt her anymore, but when she was smelt a scent which she was familiar with she began coming to her senses a little more, she realized her body felt stiff from being in the same position for so long, her eyes stung from all her tears and her hand still had glass in.
She didn't care that he was the enemy of the town or that she should hate him, right now she just wanted him to hold her and stop her falling apart and that's exactly what he did,
"Shh, its ok love, I'm here now" she heard Klaus' familiar accent as he bent down and scooped her up from the floor into his arms, he held her close to his body and she clung on to his jacket knowing he would be the one to hold her together as she fell apart.
