Chapter 18
Identity
John's footsteps echo down the hallway as he runs to find Sam. He remembers the staircase leading up to the main part of the villa where he last saw her. He wastes no time and runs through the doorway into the room with the pure white couch and silk curtains only to find it empty. "Sam!?" he shouts. There's no answer. He walks down the steps and looks around. "Sam!" he shouts again. Still nothing. All of a sudden a cry for help echoes in the distance. "John!"
John recognizes it as Sam's voice. "John please help me!" John could hear the fear in her voice. Sam's voice rings out again. "No please!" Her screams were coming from the silk maze. John doesn't hesitate and charges right through the wall of silk.
"Sam!" he shouts while moving the silk out of his path. John runs until he's out of breath. He stops and looks around. Everywhere there was silk, and no sight of Sam. "Sam!" he shouts again. "Sam!"
An unearthly wind begins to blow the silk around him. The wind blows harder and harder, twisting the strands of silk. "Sam!" he continues to shout. Before he can take one more step, a silk strand wraps around John's body, trapping him. John tries to fight it off, but before he can, two more strands whip around his arms restraining him. One last silk wraps itself around John's neck loose enough for him to breath. John closes his eyes, trying to find the strength out of another one of Caleb's traps, but finds it as no use.
John opens his eyes to see a large section of the silks gone, along with a bed of pillows in its center. Caleb walks through the strands and over to John.
"Now what was that I didn't plan for?" he asks. John stares at him full of anger. "You're a sick son of a bitch." "It only goes to show you John. If you under estimate me, your most likely over estimating yourself." "Enough with the riddles. Where's Sam?" Caleb looks back along with John to see Sam in a thin black silk dress. "Sam!" John shouts eagerly. Sam silently walks over to him. "Thank god you're alright." John looks back up at Caleb. "It's been a week Caleb. Now hold up your end of the deal and let Sam go."
Caleb walks over behind Sam and wraps his arms around her. "Now who says she wants to leave?" he asks. John's eyes are locked on them. "What are you talking about?" John asks. Caleb smiles. "I'm saying why don't we ask her what she wants." Caleb kisses her head. John tries to ignore it. He looks at Sam waiting. "Go ahead sweetheart. Tell him who you want to be with." Sam looks at John, then looks back up at Caleb.
Sam turns around and moves Caleb's hair away from his face before pulling him in for a kiss. John again begins to fight the restraints. Caleb and Sam both pull away. He strokes back her beautiful hair then looks back up at John. "There. She told you who she wants."
"Sam" John says. She looks back at him and pulls herself away from Caleb. She slowly walks over to him. "My name is Livvie." She says to him. "No" he says. Caleb walks back up behind her. "I told you I would get my Olivia back." Caleb walks over to John. "Now that this is settled, you can leave." John doesn't take his attention off Sam. "I'm not leaving without Sam" he says sternly.
Caleb walks back to Sam. "How many times do I have to tell you" she says. "I'm not Sam." "Save your breath sweetheart. The detective here has a bit of a hard head." Livvie looks up at Caleb. "I believe there is only one way to prove to him how much we love each other."
Livvie puts her hand on the back of Caleb's head and pulls him in for a kiss. Caleb pulls Livvie's body in closer as he kisses her again and again. "Sam…" The silk around his neck starts to tighten.
