Chapter 26
Light
John looks down at his hand to see Caleb's ring starting to glow. Suddenly Sam's body begins to levitate off the pillows. John removes his hand and takes a step back. The wind starts up again, this time less violent. The ring continues to glow as Sam rises higher and higher until she stops half way to the ceiling.
"Sam!" he shouts over the wind. John quickly turns away as a bright light blinds him. The light fades and Sam gradually floats back down to the ground. Her body softly lands back on the bed. He looks down at the ring to see the glow fade away as well. John stares at her then glances over at Caleb. He's barely alive but still breathing. He's also looking at her once again motionless. John returns his attention and runs over to her. "Sam?" he whispers in her ear.
She doesn't move. John strokes the hair away from her face. "Sam?" he tries again. He watches as Sam's eyes begin to flutter open. He looks deeply into her beautiful brown eyes praying that it worked. Sam says nothing as she observes her surroundings. She looks over at Caleb. He locks his eyes on hers. "No!" John quickly grabs Sam's head forcing her to look away. "Don't look in his eyes…" She just stares at him showing no emotion at all. "Sam? Is that you?"
She blinks a few times trying to think. "John?" she asks in a weak voice. John smiles for the first time in weeks. "I'm right here… You're safe now." Sam looks back at Caleb, as does John. Caleb's breathing begins to lessen. "It's over Caleb. Livvie is gone, and soon you will be too." He takes a few more breaths before responding. "You think it's over?... For you two….. It's just… The beginning…."
Caleb's eyes close for the last time.
Sam looks back at John. "It's finally over" she says. John stands up and walks over to Caleb's lifeless body. "John?" He looks back. "Yea?" "I want to go home. Back to Port Charles. And back to Danny and my family." Sam closes her eyes and goes unconscious. John kneels down beside Caleb and pulls the dagger out of his back. He places the blood covered weapon in his belt before walking back over to Sam. John moves his arms under her body and lifts her up. Sam's body is still naked under the thin sheet of silk. He tries not to think about what had just occurred, or what Caleb did to her. John carries Sam's frail body out of the villa, never looking back.
