Chapter 27
Aftermath
*John*
I walk over to the Sam's hospital room hoping she's awake. It's been almost a week since we left the villa. She's been sedated ever since I brought her in that night. Sam lost a lot of blood because of Caleb, but the doctor says she'll be fine once she wakes up. We both agreed to keep quiet about what really happened. I told the doctors Sam fell and hit her head on concrete on her way to Kelly's. When I talked to Alexis I found out that "I" dropped off Danny at the Lake House so Sam could go on a business trip for one of her clients.
I look in Sam's room and see her eyes still closed. I walk in anyways and sit down next to her bed. I stare at her beautiful face adoringly. There's nothing more important to me right now than her. I grab her hand and hold it gently. Sam's eyes begin to open slowly. "Hey" John says smiling at her. She smiles back. "Hey." "How are ya feeling?" She thinks about my question for a moment. "Better." "That's good."
We look at each other quietly for a while. Sam has a distant look on her face. "John?" she asks. "Yes Sam?" "John I've been thinking. I don't understand something." She thinks about her question some more.
"If I'm truly not Livvie… Then why do I remember…. Why do I have her memories?" Her question puzzles me at first. I think until I come to the conclusion. "From what I could tell, Caleb was forcing the memories into your mind…" I pause to let everything soak in. "Every time he locked his eyes on yours….. He was placing Livvie's memories into your head, one by one until there was enough to recreate her."
Sam reaches out and gently grabs my hand. She observes the bandages around it then begins to slowly unwrap them. I'm not supposed to take them off for another week but I would have probably taken them off by tomorrow anyways. She slides the last bandage off my hand, revealing the half healed deep cut from my battle with Caleb. She runs her fingers over it. It hurts like hell but I say nothing. I see a tear run down her cheek. "I thought Caleb killed you." I take my thumb and wipe the tear away. She looks up at me still holding my hand.
"He almost did" I respond. "But the thought of losing you was more unbearable than death…" I pause. "If I didn't show up when I did….." Sam puts her hand on my face. I can't bear to look at her. "Hey. Look at me." I try to resist but I can't. "We can't afford to think of what could have happened…" Her eyes drop. I know what she's thinking. I pull her in for an embrace. "We'll make it through this Sam… Together."
