Title: Wash Away

Universe: Elementary

Words: 221B

Summary: Holmes accidentally hurts Joan; Joan reveals a part of her past.

Joan could feel Holmes hovering behind her, sending out bolts of nervous energy like static electricity. She ignored him as best she could and focused on flushing out her eyes.

"It's been ten minutes," he said.

"I said to let me know when it's been twenty," she replied lightly.

"Is that really necessary? The longer you stay here, the longer you go without medical treatment."

She considered reminding him she used to be a doctor but that wasn't what he was getting at. "It's more important to wash away the chemical irritant. That's what they would do at the hospital anyway."

There was no response to that. Joan shifted her grip on the spray. "It's ok. This is nothing compared to LASIK."

"You had LASIK surgery? When?" Did he actually sound put out at not having deduced it?

"Summer after I got my Bachelor's."

"You were going for a degree in surgery and wanted to get rid of glasses and contacts before you started."

"Glasses. Not contacts. But yeah, something like that."

There was about thirty seconds of silence. Then . . .

"LASIK is a curious acronym, in that the first word 'laser' is itself, technically, an acronym."

If she could've, Joan would've rolled her eyes. SNSSN: Situation Normal; Sherlock Spouting Nonsense. Must be over his guilt about the bleach.
