Ch. 14
The morning after the ritual saw a beautiful clear sky, a soft blanket of snow and a gentle breeze. It also saw a miraculous change in the current Defense teacher. Severus was the last person to enter the great hall for breakfast and his entrance caused quite a stir. For as soon as he walked in the door all heads turned towards him.
Severus Snape was whistling.
He walked up towards the staff table still whistling and as he passed the Gryffindor table he winked at Harry before continuing. Harry had to stifle his laughter as he stared at his plate. Snape was acting like a man that just got laid. Everyone at the staff table was staring at Severus with their mouths hanging open. Filius was the first to crack up.
"Severus my friend, I was under the impression that you refused to bring any young ladies into Hogwarts for your pleasure."
"You would be correct Filius. However it was not I who brought the young lady in. It was Potter's idea and I for one am not complaining."
Just then the side door opened and Julia walked out. She sat down next to Severus and whispered into his ear.
"You were supposed to wait for me."
Severus smiled at her.
"I would have if you hadn't told me you would be ready in five minutes, every twenty minutes, for the last hour."
She slapped his arm and then took his plate of food giving him her empty plate. She then began to eat what he had served himself while he refilled his plate. Every eye in the great hall was on the two of them. When suddenly professor Slughorn caught everyone's attention.
"Oh Ho!"
Everyone turned to stare at him.
"Oh Ho! Julia, I haven't seen you since you graduated. I heard you went to the states and gained your potions mastery. I hope you are doing well my dear."
"I'm very well professor. Especially since I was a part of a special ritual last night to remove a magical tattoo from Severus here. It required us to have a soul bond and apparently the spell created a marriage bond between us. So I am now Mrs. Julia Snape."
You could hear a pin drop. Then Draco stood up.
"How is that possible. Father found a ritual that rids them of that particular tattoo but it has to be done in Parsletounge and so he was unable to do it. But there was no mention of a soul bond being needed."
Severus turned to look at Harry and used a slight push on his mental shield. Harry smiled and showed him the full plan. Severus sat there shocked as the information processed. One thing that became apparent very quickly was that Potter had played him. Severus stood "POTTER!"
Harry took one look at his professor's face and did the only thing he could think of.
"Slytherins protect their own asses first."
Harry then took off running with Snape right on his heels.
+++++++ONE WEEK LATER+++++++
Harry was still avoiding Snape at all costs. He had just sat down for breakfast when Headmaster Dumbledore walked over to him.
"Lord Slytherin I am in need of some assistance. Tomorrow is the last Hogsmead visit before Christmas and I would appreciate it if you and the other heirs would watch over the students. There should be little problem but just to be on the safe side."
Albus Dumbledore stood there watching Harry for his response.
"Well I guess since we had planned on doing that anyway it shouldn't be that big a deal."
Dumbledore nodded his head and walked away. Harry shrugged his shoulders and continued to eat. That is until he saw movement from the staff table. Severus Snape was standing up and slowly making his way down the hall towards Harry. Harry noticed this and threw down his silverware before bolting out of his chair and out the door; causing the rest of the people in the hall to bust up laughing.
+++++++HEHEHEHE++++++++
The next morning Harry was woken up by his dorm mates yet again. However instead of pillows being chucked at his head, his friends had decided to up the ante.
The blankets were ripped off of him, a bucket of ice water dumped on his head, mirrors stationed to catch as much sunlight and direct it directly on to Harry's face and then to top it off they had magically charmed all of their alarm clocks to go off at the same time with sonorous charms placed on them.
Harry however was expecting something this morning and started throwing hexes around the room blindly. A silky baritone voice stopped him in his tracks.
"It would seem that you enjoy sleeping in My Lord."
He turned to look towards the voice and saw Professor Snape standing there in the door way of the dorms. His dorm mates mysteriously absent.
"I have been trying to get you to talk to me, but as you seem to enjoy this game of cat and mouse, I needed another plan. So I decided to corner you when you least expected me."
Harry felt his breath hitch involuntarily. Being the heir of Slytherin did little to erase the five years of hatred and fear of the man standing before him.
"Well it was good while it lasted." He muttered to himself.
Snape came over and sat down on the edge of his bed.
"My Lord after your initial escape from my wrath I was able to think. I talked with Julia and I would like to thank you. You manipulated not only me but Julia and it turned out for the best. It was an act worthy of the greatest Slytherins of time and that is why I am not as upset at the situation as I was originally. Just to let you know though, you try a stunt like that again and I will personally create an army to dethrone you my Lord."
Snape had added that last bit with his usual sneer firmly in place. For some reason Harry found this all hilarious. He started to chuckle, then at the look on Snape's face he couldn't hold it in any longer. He burst out into full out laughter that had him clutching his sides. Snape glared at Harry then gave up.
"Well my Lord if you are done laughing at me, I suggest getting dressed for Hogsmead. The students will be leaving in just under an hour."
Harry watched as Snape left the Gryffindor common room before what he had said sunk in. Harry dashed up and ran to the bathroom. After his morning rituals were done Harry ran down the stairs hoping to catch at least some toast before needing to leave for Hogsmead. Luck was with him as he was not only in time for toast but also some sausages and eggs as well. When Harry was done eating he met up with the rest of the heirs before being the first to leave for Hogsmead.
Harry, Ron and Neville stationed themselves just outside of the Three Broomsticks sipping on warm butterbeer in bottles. The girls had left to walk the town and do their shopping first. When they were done then they would take the boys' place and then the guys could run around and do their shopping. Ron was just about to go fetch more beers when screams split the air. The three men pulled their wands and ran towards the disturbance meeting up with the women on the way. Harry saw the group of thirty death eaters standing in front of them holding the Cruciatus curse on a seven year old boy from the village. His anger at the scene however seemed to not be as much as Luna's as she started speaking in a deadly cold voice.
"By the powers of the Heirs of Hogwarts you will leave him alone, turn around and walk away. If this is not done in two minutes you will endure our wrath. This is your first and only warning."
The death eaters sneered at Luna and threw the boy aside with a banishing charm. They then walked towards the heirs en-mass. Harry was about to engage the first death eater when there was a cold voice behind the death eaters.
"Leave them! I want the heirs to explain and cower at my feet."
Harry knew that voice only too well.
"Come forward Tom and face the wrath of your Lord."
"You are no Lord of mine Potter!" Voldemort hissed as he stepped in front of the death eaters. "You Potter will kneel at my feet. I AM THE RIGHTFUL HEIR OF SALAZAR SLYTHERIN! I will enjoy proving that point today."
Harry scoffed "Really Tom, I would have thought that you, a half blood, would be better at thinking up new insults and threats."
Harry had to dodge a cutting curse that Tom threw at him. "Is that the best you got? Well Tom lets finish this as wizards with a one on one honor duel."
"Very well Potter, have it your way. Today will mark the day that Lord Voldemort kills you and takes over the world."
Harry shrugged his shoulders "You have this annoying habit of speaking in third person, Tom. It really grates on peoples nerves."
Voldemort's eyes blazed with an unholy light as he bowed to Harry; never taking his eyes off the boy in front of him. Harry followed suit and then stood there with his wand hanging loosely at his side. Voldemort started throwing insults at Harry as he circled him, while Harry just stood there gazing calmly back at him. Finally Voldemort got tired of the wait and see game.
"Crucio!"
Harry easily dodged the spell and then continued to just stand there. Voldemort was now furious. He started throwing spells left, right and center. Harry just dodged out of the way of each spell. Harry noticed that Voldemort was getting winded and that his spells were starting to weaken. This was the moment he had been waiting for.
Harry raised his wand suddenly and spoke in Parsletounge. "Contra Serpentes et sta in Virtute tua prudentia!" (By the power of the serpents, stand still and face your judgment!)
A silver light erupted out of Harry's wand leaving the death eaters on the ground and Voldemort stuck in what appeared to be a full body bind. Harry smiled at Voldemort.
"So you think you are the rightful heir of Slytherin huh, tommy boy? Let us then see, shall we? Slytherin heredem vocaverit te. Exite, et iudicet nos." (Slytherin heir summons thee. Come forth and judge us now.)
A mist started to rise out of the earth and twist its way around both Harry and Voldemort. Harry felt as though a boa constrictor was holding him in place and dared not move as if that would give the mist reason to kill him. He watched as Voldemort's eyes grew large and wondered what the mist was doing to him. Harry then saw the mist uncoil around the two men to slither its way to the center. Weaving the two separate mists together to create what appeared to be the figure of a man. The mist like man looked at Harry and seemed to be using legitimancy on him, but it was over before it seemed to have begun. The mist then turned towards Voldemort and did the same thing.
The mist stepped forward and spoke in a clear voice that resounded around the town as if a church bell had been struck.
"Hear me now wizards and witches. I have been summoned to pass judgment on these two men. I have read their minds and tested their souls. I have long been forgotten as the only ones that can summon me are those gifted with the serpents tongue. Now I shall pass my judgment!"
He turned towards Voldemort. "You foul creature were once human. But years of dark rituals to split your soul have left you as nothing more than a shell. You claim to be the heir of the noble Slytherin line when you lost that right when you tore your soul. The young man standing behind me has the blood and the magical right to claim the title. Therefore he shall pass my judgment and you Tomas Marvolo Riddle, Son of Tomas Riddle and Merope Gaunt, will not."
The mist man steeped up directly in front of Voldemort. "This is my judgment; you shall spend the rest of your meager existence as a ghost in the forest of Epping. You will be surrounded by the ghosts of innocent people that were murdered and buried there. Now be gone from our sight."
With those parting words Voldemort's body disintegrated and all that was left behind was an apparition of what the man once was. A tall, dark haired, handsome man stood before them. Then Harry heard a sound of air rushing towards them. He put up his arm to block his eyes when he heard Tom scream. He lowered his arm to see the apparition of Tom Marvolo Riddle being sucked into a hole. Then he was gone and all he could hear were the breathing of the people around him.
Ron was the first one to break the silence.
"That was bloody BRILLIANT!"
This seemed to start a tidal wave of noise as the Order all rushed forward to secure the death eaters still unconscious on the ground. Harry felt people patting him on the back, congratulations being shouted at him from down the road and his friends talking quietly next to him. The last thought on his mind as he faced the crowd was this is only the beginning.
